Monarch Bay Golf Club - Tony Lema Course
Played On 04/22/2018Pace of Play is a Serious Issue
I've played this course a few times before, during the weekday, and played my first weekend round here yesterday. The course was in great shape, and its not terrible challenging to a mediocre golfer if you can keep the ball in play. I'd play here again, but only on a slow weekday. The tee times aren't spaced out enough for the course to avoid getting backed up after the first hole. When our pair finished the first hole, we caught the pair in front of us, and decided to play in together to avoid waiting even longer. Overall, We waited on every tee box for the group in front of us, who were waiting on the group in front of them, and so on. We became particularly frustrated when we arrived to the first Par 3, there were three groups ahead of us, still waiting for the green to clear. I believe we sat for at least a half hour before we were able to play the hole. It ended up being just shy of a 6 hour round to play 18 holes. I know it can always be worse, but it's very clear that it could be better.
TL;DR:
I'd play here again, but only during the week, unless the course spaces out their tee times better. Unfortunately on this course, 8 minutes or less per group is only hurting the pace for everyone.
Los Lagos Golf Course
Played On 02/15/2014Decent Golf Course
Second time playing here, was worried about gusty wind when I arrived at the course but it died down within the first couple holes. It seems like some of the holes play a club longer than what you'd normally hit for distances from the tee (some of the par 3's especially). So that cost me a few strokes but I can't complain, I'm still just getting into the sport. Would definitely recommend this course to anyone in the south bay area, it's a great looking course that isn't that challenging until you make a mistake. I'd also advise anyone thinking of walking solo to avoid doing so. Cutting through the wildlife preserve back and forth, twice to get to 4 of the 18 holes is a nuisance.
Skywest Golf Course
Played On 11/23/2013Great Value in the Bay Area
This was my second time playing 18 at Skywest. As far as I can tell it's a great value for the money, at least in the bay area. Very straight, wide fairways which are great for those trying to get the hang of golf for the first time or those just trying to have a more fun, more carefree round. Water hazard is in play on a few holes but its nothing that can't be easily hit over if you are aware of your distances. I'm sure I will be back at Skywest in the next few weeks. Only problem we had was losing balls in the fairway because of a windstorm that blew debris all over most of the fairways the night before. Not a big deal but it does make the round that much longer.
