Not a Legend but OK

The Legend was a good find, the staff was very good and the conditions were ok. They were no longer CP only, which was a nice surprise since it is overseed season in the valley. The layout was average but challenging enough. The real down-grade is because there were dozens of unrepaired ball marks on every green. It's like they held a scramble everyday since opening from overseed and no repair tools were available.

Not Again

I don't know how this course was rated so highly. The care for the course was average at best. The pro shop staff was friendly and the driving range was poor. But the worse part of the course was that they didn't bother to inform me (anyone?) that the greens were being top-dressed with A LOT OF SAND, not just a dusting...then as we played the back-nine we ran into the grounds crew aerating (large holes) the greens. In almost 50-years of golfing I have never seen the greens top-dressed with sand AND THEN punched, this made the greens nearly unplayable. I had read that the greens were bad in the early spring, but were much better in the last month, I didn't get to observe any of that. I understand that this is required for good greens, but isn't it late in the year for this?

Also, there needs to be better communication with Golf Now as to the maintenance schedule for the greens...I would have played ANYWHERE else...

You get what you pay for.

Let’s start with $161 all-in per person. Played 7:47 as a twosome. Outside staff was very friendly. Pace was really good we followed a threesome. Conditions started very good and deteriorated as the round progressed. The greenside bunkers had decent sand for an AZ course. The greens were mostly smooth (except where the jerks didn’t repair) and very fast. Probably 6 or 7 of the green complexes are of goofy-golf variety where the slope was just ridiculous - no way to get/keep the ball close. Any ball on left side of the #8 green goes into the water. As the round progresses there was a lot of pot holes, standing water and bare spots in the fairway and around the collar (#11). Overall I think there are better options for like price.

Great Find

I played here because of a good rating and time on GolfNow, I had previously never heard of this course. What a pleasant surprise! After a confusing start (the Pro Shop is not adjacent to the starter's shack, or the first tee) what a great golf course. Very playable, challenging and fun. Great conditions, I used almost every club in the bag. The greens were in great shape, the fairways and teeing grounds were also very good. The greenside bunkers were inconsistent, some had nice sand and some almost nearly no sand. One note of interest, this would not be an enjoyable walk, lots of long treks between greens and the next tee. There are also some huge elevation changes - hence the name! Enjoy, I will return!

It’s a bogey

Chandler hills golf course has a great layout lots of variations. The tee boxes are shaggy and a bit rough but they’re nice and level. The colars around the greens are not very good. I would say the greens are average, although they are very slow. I would not say anyone was actually rude, but I would say they were not really glad I was there, playing on a daily fee. I would say it was worth playing, and I would recommend it. But I would not pay more than $70 to play. By the way the sand traps were great, both greenside and fairway very well-maintained.

frost delay, and slow

There was a 90-minute frost delay that was passed on to all players. We arrived 30-minutes prior to our revised tee-time. When we arrived, we were informed our tee-time was now in 10-minutes. No time to warm up. No time to putt, straight to tee box. But we got over that. What was impossible to get over, was a 5:05 round. Unbelievable. fifteen minutes per hole is 4:30...this was over that. Player assistant had no comment, just "Full golf course." I would play there again...during summer, cheaper rate, less crowded.

Good test, fun.

We played this course on a Tuesday morning. It was fairly busy, but we played in under four hours. Greens were fast and in good shape, the rest of the golf course was also in good shape. It was nice to not need a hammer to get the tee in the ground on a public course. The greenside bunkers had nice fluffy sand and were well maintained. It was worth the $.

Save your money

Let’s start by saying the pro shop staff and the starter were very friendly, and the layout was fun and interesting - that’s the only good I can report. Most of the range balls were purchased in about 2010, plus we were hitting off mats (at least the mats were new). Then we moved to the putting green, my comment to my partner was “ I hope this isn’t indicative of the conditions out there.” Well, it was. The pace of there greens were a snail-like 3.0 on the Stimp, except where there was no grass - which was often. (How can one NOT grow grass in South Carolina in May?) The tee pads were hard and beat down, and general course maintenance was generally poor, though the greenside bunkers were above average (at least the few I was in). A side note, we had a reserved tee time at 7:52, but we were after a LARGE group of members (I understand), but there were so many that showed up for the “Blitz”, we teed off about 30 minutes late, and pace was average at best. I don’t know HOW IN THE WORLD this course got a 4 out of 5 rating….

Worth the drive

This was a nice golf course. It was easy to get to from Palm Coast. Accommodating teetimes were available, had a good price of $90 per player. Good conditions all around. Nice fairways, tee boxes and really nice greens. A good amount of sand in the bunkers, but nothing spectacular. The outside staff was mediocre at best, they did not seem to really care to go out of the way to give any exceptional customer service. In fact once the round was over, no one was there to clean clubs, unload or ask if we needed anything.

$80 course for $140

The pro shop and out front staff were friendly, starter a bit gruff. Forced to ride with another player, which was fine, but it wasn’t due to shortage of carts. Driving range (included) was a bit chewed up and needed to be moved a few yards. They do have a nice short game area, and a 3-hole short course. But tee pads conditions and overall conditions were average - at best, certainly NOT good. Greens were pretty good, stimp sign said 10.5. I would give the greens 3.5 out of 5 stars. Lots of other places to play in this area, with better conditions and 50% cheaper. Even the member I was paired with said this is a $70-$80 golf course, I agree. I would not pay this again and recommend you spend your $100+ elsewhere. If you can play it for $70 - that would be good.

Ute should play here

I decided to play here because my regular course is completing aeration today and tomorrow. I must say it was worth the drive. The layout is fun, although not a lot of variety. The conditions were good, but the greens were a bit slow for my taste. There is no GPS on the golf carts, so a GPS or GPS app will be very helpful. I played 6820y and this was a fair test, not a lot of forced carries, but there is a Penalty Area on at least half of the holes. The par 3’s were very enjoyable, and the par 5’s provided a good test (five of each). The greens are small, so playing to the middle will always be a good shot. Most of the green complexes were slight elevated, and this was a nice change from a typical links course.

Play the Loop

FOREST DUNES THE LOOP (RED & BLACK)
This is one of the most interesting golf courses I’ve ever played. The golf course is very well maintained. The greens were slightly fast and putting them was a pleasure. The ever changing tee pads were very unique and the routing was so very much fun. We actually met the course superintendent and he was a pleasure to chat with. He thinks the course should be played 3-4 times each direction to figure it out. After playing each direction only once...I agree. But I think this (these?) layout needs a little more time to mature.

The staff and services were good, but not quite in the excellent category (see my Forest Dunes write-up for more detail). The driving range, chipping area and the Hilltop (large putting course) were all very good. The driving range seemed very sandy, but that was a minor inconvenience. There is now a 10 hole Par 3 short course available, but my group did not play it, but it looks great!

I think the food/drink options were good, but they seemed a bit overpriced. But the atmosphere on the patio made the food and drink worth it.

Again my central complaint about this course is the LOUD MUSIC and seeming unawareness of some of the members to realize that many of us traveled a long way to play here, and we did not want to hear there music or hear there group to group banter.

If you can get past the Bushwood atmosphere (or be lucky enough to play where there wasn’t a party on the course), it’s a great experience.

Close to Perfect

I have to break this down into three parts: Golf Course, Staff/Services, and Golf Environment:
1. Golf Course: Tom Weiskopf did an outstanding job with this routing. Plenty of length for the long hitters and plenty of golf course for everybody else. There are 5 sets of tees and also a combo set to satisfy all tastes. The course provided the opportunity to use every club in the bag, as well as giving a reachable par 5 (maybe two), a driveable par 4 (for longer hitters), a long par 3, and a short par 3. The two finishing holes on both front and back nines are some of the best I’ve played. There are some elevation changes and plenty of changing green complexes. This course was manicured in an excellent manner as well. The greens were fast but receptive, but the fairways were a bit soft (some rain earlier in the week). I EASILY give this golf course a 5-star rating.
2. Staff and services: All of the Pro Shop staff were very courteous, and very customer oriented. The starters were all very friendly, knowledgeable and wanted to be sure all the guests had an opportunity to have a great time and that all the groups started on time. The outside staff were friendly and accommodating. We had requested caddies for our foursome, but somehow that got mixed up and we only had a forecaddie available. Our forecaddie was friendly, but truly provided no real additional knowledge that we did not gather fo ourselves from our hand-held GPS. His green reading was average. Our group determined that the $30/player would have been better spent on souvenirs from the Pro Shop.
3. Golf Environment: This is the area that needs MOST IMPROVEMENT if Forest Dunes wants to be held in the same regard as a golf destination as Whistling Straits, Bandon Dunes, etc. Imagine going to play Pinehurst, and Bushwood Country Club breaks out...That was much to our surprise. VERY LOUD MUSIC coming from multiple carts, 5+ hour round and course assistants that did nothing to move groups along. Many groups were yelling back & forth and just generally had no regard for normal golf course etiquette. At one point in the afternoon, we were told by a course assistant “To play ready golf, so every group can finish before dark.” But nothing was done to speed up play. We were told that “a couple of groups were holding everyone up (but nothing was done to remedy the pace). We were already on #15 and had been playing ready golf since the round started, so the admonishment to play ready golf did not sit well with us, as we waited almost every shot.

All this being said, Forrest Dunes is an excellent golf course and was lots of fun to play. I would go back there again, I would just have a better idea what to expect.

Get More Tullymore if you can

Fun golf course with 5 par 5’s and 5 par 3’s. It is very playable and with 5 sets of tees, it can challenge ANY PLAYER! It was quite wet the day I played it, so the greens were a bit slow for my liking, but they were VERY SMOOTH. I was unaware that this was part of a resort until I arrived here. The driving range is small, the putting green is a bit small, and there is not much of a chipping area to speak of. The layout is a Jim Engh design, and I generally don’t care for his work, but this course was an exception. Although, this course has some of his common design elements (wayward shots are funneled toward the target green or fairway) it’s not too prominent. You will have the opportunity to use every club in the bag, and the carts have GPS. If you are on your way traveling from central MI to northern MI, give this course a try, I think you will really enjoy it.

Firm and Fast

Arcadia Bluffs South is a very new golf course, that when it matures, it will provide a wonderful alternative to the Bluffs course. Great layout, long, but it does run firm and fast so it’s still playable. Wonderful RECTANGULAR greens that are firm, smooth, and fast. You will use every club in your bag, and it’s a fun layout. The staff is professional and very friendly. They have golf carts with GPS and this helps with a new course. Caddie’s are available, but I didn’t use one. The greens were hard and mostly unreceptive, but by next year they will be better. But HARD AND FAST is the true links experience, I just prefer a little softer greens (I don’t expect a parkland atmosphere, just no large bounces). I would certainly recommend this course and I will be returning!

Don’t pass up Arcadia Bluffs, it’s a gem

Arcadia Bluffs

I have been blessed to play some amazing golf courses (Bandon Dunes, Whistling Straits, Pebble Beach) and Arcadia Bluffs certainly holds their own in this group. What else do I need to say? This golf course is beautiful, challenging, fun, has outstanding conditions and is well worth the effort and the CA$H to play it. You will hit every club in your bag, with lots of elevation changes and wonderful greens. There are long par 5’s, short par 5’s; long par 4’s, short par 4’s; long par 3’s and short par 3’s. The greens are smooth, fast and wonderful. The sand is lovely, but STAY OUT OF THE DEEP BUNKER ON #10! This is a course that you could play EVERY DAY and not get bored. Do yourself a favor and reserve a caddie, it’s money well spent and both of my caddies were OUTSTANDING, and you will not regret the walk. The driving range was average, but there is a quality chipping area, and the putting green(s) and very representative of the course.

The entire inside and outside staff is friendly, professional and very knowledgeable. The merchandise in the pro shop is resort priced, but is of superior quality. I did not eat in the dining room, but I did enjoy a wonderful brat from the grill on the golf course. I WILL DEFINITELY RETURN TO PLAY HERE AGAIN and YOU SHOULD PLAY HERE TOO!

Tale of One 9

I had the opportunity to play this golf course as a part of my travels to Arcadia Bluffs. This was a nice golf course, and it has 18 holes, but when I checked in to play, I was asked to go off the back because of a large after-work group. I thought this was very accommodating and so I headed out. When I made the turn (for #1) I was informed that there was an after-work league, so I needed to play the back 9 again. I’m a golfer that just loves to play, so I ventured to back 9 again. this was a bit disappointing, but it’s better than not playing at all. The golf course was fun, and challenging, and I recommend you give this a try. The greens were small and smooth, and slightly on the fast side. There was some elevation changes, but I can’t speak to the front 9.

It’s the Hole Issue

I enjoyed this golf course. Fun layout, lots of variety, you can use every club in your bag. Conditions were good (especially with so much rain the last week - not kidding). Greens were EXTREMELY DIFFICULT to read - grain, slope, etc. But the true disturbing thing were the holes. On no less than 6 greens the HOLES WERE MASSACRED! Attempted double cuts, gouges out of the side, and crowned holes. We had 0845 tee time...so not many groups ahead of us, and these were the WORST CUT HOLES I’ve ever seen on any golf course of this caliber (more muny-esq). I would probably not play here again unless I could get a bargain.
