Coral Mountain Golf Club
Played On 12/30/2017DO NOT Play out of the sand traps
The owner of this course is killing a nice golf course due to the lack of maintenance on the sand traps. I have never played a course that has so many big rocks in the sand traps - ever. This has been like this for years and I bring it up every time I play here. I refuse to play out of the traps in order to protect my clubs and record a penalty stroke instead. I play here a lot as my friends live in the community but it is now getting to be beyond ridiculous. Heavy sand with club damaging rocks in them - BAD!!! I would recommend the course as it is a nice challenge but DO NOT hit out of the traps!

We booked a two-some on GolfNow based on comments I read on Golf Advisor. The course conditions and level of difficulty were as expected - excellent. We and to drive 1.5 hours to get to the course so we had reasonable expectations that we would receive similar service as we do at the Palm Springs area courses who are charging similar rates. We played with a couple who have played there many times and it was a good thing we did since there are no GPS systems on the golf carts and no yardage books offered in the pro shop. For a course this challenging and charging a high-end price, a golfer would expect that the carts would be equipped with GPS and the course would provide you with a yardage book. In order to compete with similar courses in the Palm Springs area they should visit them and see what is provided for a similar +$100 green fee. I will recommend this course to friends but will inform them of this so they can make up their own minds if they want to drive the extra distance for less service.

The tee boxes and greens were in very good playing condition, the fairways are a bit dry however with the drought this can be expected, the sand traps were horrendous. All the traps were very hard and impossible to play out of. The traps also contained an unacceptable amount of stones that could easily damage your clubs. In addition to being rock hard, the traps on #17 had grass and weeds over taking them. Considering when you are in the clubhouse & restaurant you look directly down #17, you would think that hole would look in great shape but instead you see traps full of weeds. The course likes to promote all the awards it has won but right now I would say the course is living on borrowed time unless they immediately address the condition of all the sand traps.
The staff was very friendly and the course marshal was visible ensuring pace of play was maintained.
I try to play this course a couple times a year however, if they don't address the condition of the traps soon, I may not come back for quite awhile.
Thank you GolferTom67 for the review and feedback regarding your recent visit with us. We hope to see you in the New Year for great golf at Rams Hill!
