Herndon Centennial Golf Course
Played On 07/08/2020A Real Gem - One of the Best in the Area
This course is probably in the best shape of any of the 10 or so courses I've played in the Northern Virginia area (though admittedly I haven't played some of the higher end courses here), especially for the price. Fairways and greens were pristine, though the latter are a little slow. Lots of good food and drink options at the clubhouse. Very walkable course that plays very short with wide fairways and is therefore excellent for beginners. There are a number of nearly reachable Par 4s and easily scorable Par 5s. Note that the white tees are the ladies' tees. The only disappointment for me is that I did not discover this course earlier. Highly recommend for everyone, but especially those looking to gain some confidence on the golf course.
Greendale Golf Course
Played On 07/06/2020Nice Course That Could Use Some Work
This is a fun course to play, though it has some tight fairways. Surprisingly some of the greens and even some of the fairways are in pretty rough shape right now despite the amount of time they had to recover this spring with the closures. Vast majority of staff is very friendly with the occasional exception. Not a lot of food/drink options and no driving range. At standard full prices, it's a little tough to justify paying here at the moment considering its condition and lack of amenities. There are other, better options in the area, but I would still play here if I could find a good deal.
Rocky Gap Casino Resort
Played On 06/20/2020Tough Course with Amazing Views
Really tough Jack Nicklaus course with lots of elevation changes and some tight fairways. If you're not a low handicapper, be prepared to lose some golf balls. But the course is in great shape with mountain views all around. Both times I've played here, the service was pretty poor, especially when trying to get food/drinks at the turn. They seem to be very disorganized. Otherwise, I highly recommend this course for the experience, even though it's a bit pricey. I would make the 2.5 hour drive to play here again.
Pohick Bay Golf Course
Played On 06/10/2020Beautiful but Tight Course
Really fun course that's always in good shape. One of my favorites in the area considering the scenery and layout, but this is a very tight course from beginning to end with lots of doglegs and blind tee shots. There are some notable elevation changes as well. Practice areas are a bonus here. Having visited a number of times to also practice, I've noticed they have been short on carts even on the weekdays because of the coronavirus precautions. Do note that there tend to be large, swarming horse flies on parts of the course; since this is near the water, bring bug spray. Overall, a very enjoyable but challenging course.
Industry Hills Golf Club at Pacific Palms Resort - Zaharias Course
Played On 05/28/2017Stunning
Great mountain views, lots of elevation changes, and perfect course condition. The only downside was that groupings were not ideal. I was a single rider and there were a number of walking groups holding me and many others back. Nevertheless, you can't beat the views.
Los Robles Greens Golf Course
Played On 05/27/2017Gorgeous
Absolutely beautiful course in great condition. Fairly challenging but has some wide fairways.
Tierra del Sol Golf Club
Played On 05/20/2017Value Play
I got a hot deal... $12 for 18 holes and cart. You really can't beat that. The course is in decent shape. Greens and tee boxes are really good. Fairways are mostly okay but have some patchy spots. If you miss the fairway, there's a good chance you'll be in a dirt patch, and the bunkers were dried up wet sand. There are some water hazards that make the course a little more challenging but also aesthetically pleasing. A decent course, especially for the price, and I would play again if the weather was as beautiful.
TPC Harding Park - Harding Course
Played On 05/17/2017Not worth $85+
Don't get me wrong, this course is really nice and in great shape, but if you're not a SF or county resident, it's way over priced. The twilight fee for a non-resident was $87 and as someone else mentioned in another review, the price should really be around $50.
The back 9 was significantly narrower and more challenging than the front 9. Pace of play really slowed down when a group seemed to have started on the back 9 with one bag for two players, one of whom appeared to be giving his son lessons. I was also surprised to see random people just walking the cart path and it sounded like there was a firing range down the hill.
Worth it if you can get a discount.
El Cariso Golf Course
Played On 05/13/2017Nice course but SLOW pace
I would give this course 4 stars if it didn't take 4.5 hours to play it (it's an executive course so 18 holes should not take nearly that long). I had a tee time and the pro shop let a twosome just jump right in between me and the group in front of me. Was slow all around. Course is in pretty good shape from tee box to green. There doesn't seem to be a dress code enforced if that bothers you. Would recommend as long as there's not a major backup.
Pine Hills Country Club
Played On 08/03/2014Well worth the one hour drive
GolfNow had a really good deal for this course on a Sunday, so I decided to drive down and check it out. I definitely wasn't disappointed, and it will be a course I'll be bringing my friends to in the future.
What I REALLY liked was the wide open fairways. I've become accustomed to the narrow, tree-lined fairways of Middle Georgia, so this was a refreshing change. The fairways were immaculate, and the greens, despite a few with sand, were in decent shape, too. The course has some really short par 4s and 5s, which, in conjunction with the open fairways, is probably part of the reason I shot my best score here. It was not busy at all for an early Sunday afternoon, the staff was extremely friendly and asked if I was ____ as soon as I walked in the clubhouse. I'll definitely be coming back.
International City Golf Club
Played On 08/02/2014Very tight course, but fun and a great value
Overall, this course is in pretty decent shape. The fairways were good, although some of the greens had some really rough spots. Beware that this course is very tight both in terms of fairways and holes practically on top of one another. Cart paths cross in front of other holes' tee boxes.
I will say that both times I played here, I received a less than warm welcome from the employees at the pro shop, and I think that's because we told them we had a GolfNow reservation. I never understood this attitude... If you're going to sell tee times on GolfNow, don't treat the players who use it as second-class. Nevertheless, this is a fun, relatively challenging course and well worth the value.
The Landings Golf Club - Trestle/Bluff
Played On 07/27/2014Beautiful course, outstanding value
This course is probably one of my favorites in Middle Georgia. It's in really good condition with greens that are pretty fast but true. You absolutely cannot beat the deals GolfNow has for this course. If you're looking at paying under $20 to play here, snatch it up right away because it's well worth it. The course does play a little long, and #14 is an absolute monstrosity. When I stopped at the turn, the lady in the clubhouse told me, "Wait until you get to 14." I asked why, and she just said, "I can't even explain it. You'll see." Yeah, I did, and 5 golf balls and a few tears later, I felt obliterated. But really, it's a beautiful course and a lot of fun.
Coastal Pines Golf Club
Played On 7/13/2013Disappointed Time after Time
A few friends and I were in this area for a few months and golfed at Coastal Pines multiple times. After the first experience at this place, the only reasons we came back were for a good deal on GolfNow and the convenience.
Where do I start? The first time we went, we just hit some range balls. We all concurred the place was "sketchy." Every one of their staff members with the possible exception of one was, to put it lightly, a jerk. It was almost like it was a burden for them to have new people play there. And God forbid you have a GolfNow reservation and not book through the clubhouse. Not only was this a major issue, but every time we played, there were random (shady) people driving golf carts around the course seemingly looking for something. EVERY TIME. Turns out it was probably for clubs and money (my friend left a club at one hole and never got it back, and I had $40 in cash taken from my wallet). They were not playing, nor were they staff members.
All they have in the clubhouse is a few snacks--no grill. As for the course, it's in pretty decent shape, and it's an okay course for the money, but I would highly recommend playing Sanctuary Cove, Heritage Oaks, or Sea Palms rather than giving a dime to the staff members here. Stay away.
Sea Palms Golf & Tennis Resort
Played On 6/2/2013Good Value
Beautiful course in a beautiful area. Played on a Sunday afternoon and it wasn't busy at all. Staff was very friendly. The only thing is the driving range is a 5-7 minute cart ride from the clubhouse, so if you want to warm up beforehand you have to drive out to the 9th hole and then drive back. Make sure you allow for this time if you plan on hitting some golf balls ahead of time!
Hilton Head National Golf Club
Played On 6/1/2013Great Value for this Area
A coworker and I wanted to come up to Hilton Head (about a 90 minute drive) to see the area and see what all the talk about the golf courses was about. GolfNow had a deal to play this course for $30 so we pounced on it. I'm so glad we did. The course was in great shape, the staff was great, and it wasn't busy at all for a Saturday afternoon. If you're in the area, it's certainly worth it to play. The course is challenging (especially for me, someone who still has a good deal of improvement to make), but at the same time not extremely difficult. If I'm ever in the area again, I'll be making a stop here again.
