Tidewater Golf Club
Played On 04/07/2018Maybe there was too much hype?
First things first... The winter has not been kind to NC/SC. Greens everywhere are beaten up by alternating heat waves and cold snaps. That being said, Tidewater is a great layout. Very challenging, but not unfair, and hugely fun. Facilities are great, free range and well kept clubhouse. The people working the pro shop were a bit rude. The starter, John, was awesome. Very friendly and informative. The ranger, another older gentleman, was a complete jerk. Very rude and condescending to our group, definitely enough to make us think about coming back. There's no excuse for that at a course that has such a premium price tag. We will be back when conditions are better in the area, hopefully our ranger friend will not be.
The Heritage Club
Played On 04/06/2018Almost there
First time playing this course. We have played Caledonia, Litchfield, True Blue, etc, and we were so pleasantly surprised. Very similar feel to Caledonia, at less than half the price. Conditions are a little rough, greens and fairways are halfway back to normal. We played Tidewater, Thistle, and TPC Myrtle Beach on this trip as well, and it's the same story everywhere. Warm February started the growth, cool March killed everything. The people at Heritage were unbelievable. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. Clubhouse was pristine. The layout alone makes it one of my favorite courses on the east coast, and definitely top 2 on the strand. We will be back!!
TPC Myrtle Beach
Played On 04/05/2018Ol' Faithful
Love everything about this course. As always, conditions were about perfect. Greens were a little slow by TPC MB standards (11 instead of a usual 13-14), but rolled true and consistent as ever. Everyone treats you like you are a pro for the day. We play this multiple times annually. Highly recommended.
Long Bay Club
Played On 04/21/2017A great stop on the way to Myrtle Beach
Excellent course for a great value. The course was in excellent condition for this early in the season. The only thing I would say is that the greens were a bit slow. They were in perfect condition, but needed to be rolled or cut to speed them up. We found ourselves over-putting, but the rolls were true and there were absolutely no imperfections. Fairways were excellent, and layout demands precision golf. No hole is really unfair, but lots of undulations throughout each hole will challenge ball placement. Will definitely play again!
Caledonia Golf & Fish Club
Played On 04/09/2017Perfection
Caledonia rocketed to the top of the must play golf courses in Myrtle Beach. Everything about the place was perfect. From the time you turn in and drive through a piece of history, to the end when you are relaxing with a beer watching others come in to 18 green. Everything was perfect. We played ona day that was sunny and 75 degrees. The tees were immaculate, fairways and bunkers were well kept. The greens, however, are what stole the show. They were flawless, to say the least. Every green was fairly quick, but not unforgiving. There were no bumps, dry spots, imperfections, etc. The course layout is challenging, more for the need of proper placement over pure length. There is water on several holes, but never any crazy forced carries. The clubhouse staff, starter, bag attendants, and bar staff were excellent. I highly recommend having lunch in the clubhouse. Excellent food. This is a pricey course by all standards, but I have never felt so happy to have paid so much for this course. We will be back each time we visit.
True Blue Golf Club
Played On 04/09/2017Good, but definitely not great
Course was in OK shape. Some issues with fairway being inconsistent. Greens were generally good, but didn't have the roll you would expect from a $125+ course. We played on a replay from the sister course, Caledonia. Thank goodness it was only $59 to replay. Staff were great, very friendly. Course was wide open so no delays. Caledonia speaks for itself, but we also played TPC Myrtle Beach and Myrtle Beach Natiinal - Kings North. I would play both of those courses before True Blue.
Twisted Dune Golf Club
Played On 03/25/2017Just OK
We got out on a decent hot deal, otherwise I wouldn't have been happy at all. Course was in decent shape, greens were quite slow. Pace of play was embarrassing. Waiting at ever hole. We were even 20 minutes behind our scheduled time. Staff is friendly enough, course is very fair.
The Architects Golf Club
Played On 04/23/2016Great course, almost perfect
Had a great round on 4/23/16. Course was a little damp from the morning rain, but dried quickly. Fairways, rough, and tee boxes were all above average. The bunkers were excellent despite the recent rain. A few puddles, but sand was otherwise cooperative. The greens were the only part that were a little disappointing. 2 of the larger greens had been aerated, and the rest were in need of some care. It is more than likely just because it is early in the season and odd weather makes for odd growth, but the ball hopped around quite a bit on several of the greens. Overall, it wasn't bad enough to really say I had a bad experience. I will definitely be playing here again. I may be Able to justify the $100+ weekend fee, but only if conditions were absolutely flawless. Otherwise, this is a great deal for mid-$60's on GN. Beautiful facility, and a truly fun layout.
