Homestead Farms Golf Club
Played On 05/18/2019A Diamond in the Rough
10 Minutes across the Aldergrove Border, Homestead farms is a quick trip for Canadians south. What a great course. No gimmicks. Fair amount of water, but if you have a scorecard App you should be fine for distances to water.
Rewarded if you hit fairways. Long par4's were challenging but fair.
The pace of play was fantastic. No waiting for the group ahead, and the group behind us didn't wait at all.
Greens were good. Very good for a public course.
Would play again. Planning another day trip as we speak.
Westwood Plateau Golf and Country Club
Played On 04/18/2018Yikes.. What happened to this old gem?
Growing up in Coquitlam, there was 2 prestigious courses. The Vancouver Golf Club, and the Westwood Plateau Golf and Country Club. Last week I played the Westwood Plateau GCC, and was holding off to make a review until I heard back from the Golf Operations Manager.
The staff was friendly, however they never mentioned that there was still small white material which yes, protects the greens but also causes them to suck while putting.
Yes, it has rained in Vancouver. Being on the side of a mountain, I figured drainage would be decent as gravity is on your side here. Boy was I wrong...
As the pictures depict, the course was a swamp. Should not of been opened, and there was machinery on the course. Why they had tractors and cutters on the course was mind boggling..
I was expecting wet, but this was just silly.
The bunkers were not even raked, and I tee'd off at 1230...
I've heard about the new ownership at Westwood, but I didn't realize to the extent of how poorly they have drove the golf side of things into the ground.
With a great layout, there's so much potential here. It's such a shame its gone to waste.
I emailed the Golf Ops Manager, to explain my experience and showed pictures of the round... to which there was no apology. Instead a short email stating to directly email him for my next tee time.
Shadow Ridge Golf Club
Played On 06/06/2016Great Value, Solid Golf
I wanted to play 9 holes today before a round at Black Mountain later in the week, I found the $23 9 hole price at 2 PM on a Monday afternoon to be very fair. Being on a college budget, this course had great value. The staff at the proshop put me on the back 9 and said I could jump out right now if I wanted, 25 minutes before my tee time! Pace of play was fantastic, to be fair it was 34 degrees in the middle of the afternoon but you can't beat that! I was going to play as a solo, but then a 73 year old gentleman joined me. He was a member for 10+ years and gave me tips thru the entire course.
I have to say, the course was challenging but rewarding. The layout gives the opportunities for both my 23 year old self and my 73 year old playing partner. It allows for different playing styles to have a fair chance at scoring on holes. Par 5s are reachable in 2 for most big hitters. Wedges in have to be accurate but there is room to bail out. Greens rolled very fast as expected.
Whoever complained about the airplanes needs to learn how to pull off and start their routine over.
I expect I will be playing this course every time I visit Kelowna.
