About
Play mostly with pre 1900 style hickory shafted golf clubs and replica pre 1900 gutta percha (limited flight) golf balls. Also buy-sell-restore pre and post 1900 hickory golf clubs. Limited flight balls travel about 70% of the distance of a modern ball. My hickory handicap playing this ball fluctuates between 24-26. My modern handicap is 18-20.

Quailwood Greens Golf Course
Played On 11/01/2017New Carts!
Play here about twice a month. New carts, much nicer experience. Course is fun, a little ragged in some places, but a good value.

New owners of less than one week and course in much better shape! Cart paths repaired, new ball washers (and with water!), greens great, weeds trimmed, generally new life!
Have real hopes these owners will return this nice course to the great shape it was once in!
Quailwood Greens Golf Course
Played On 08/20/2017Fun Course
Quailwood is kind of an odd course. Short, but fun. Interesting and sometimes weird layout. Greens and tee boxes were ragged in some places, but it is a good value compared to other courses in the area. Owners are local people and operate pretty much on a shoestring, but they do a good job of keeping the course in playable condition. Great food and great happy hour prices!

Odd layout, but fun course. Holes could be marked better as it kind of rambles around and cart paths would be confusing to course first time players. Hot, dry weather has taken its toll on some tee boxes and greens. Nevertheless, the owners are working to make it better. A good value for 18 holes and awesome burgers at the grill!

First time playing here and a great value. Pro shop manager Rich was very friendly and course in nice shape for the most part. Had a lot of rain so was shaggy in spots, but greens were very fast. Will definitely play here more often!

Played On 06/14/2015Course in Poor Shape...Disappointing
Was surprised at how much this facility had gone downhill in the last two years. Used to be one of the nicest munis in Phoenix and one of my favorites.
Had recently been aerated and it is beginning of summer, but most of the greens on front nine were in very bad shape...some even dirt. Tee boxes completely scalped, and fairways not much better. Back nine a little better.
Puzzling, as this place used to be nice, even when in between seasons. Won't play here again until they fix it up...pro shop and snack shop are the pits.

Great shape for heading into summer. Too tough a course for high handicapper like me unless you play from forward tees, which are still tough. Recommend this course for better golfers, but it was still fun.

I think there are some haters that don't like the changes to this golf course that are posting unfair reviews out there. This is a very nice course...a little rough in some places and the greens WERE hard due to the renovations. But this is not the TPC or Troon. Nice, fair, fun and challenging public course. Greens really fast, but putted true...just had to adjust your game. I actually shot one of my better scores this season. Great value for $25...and a quick, sub 4 hour 18 holes.

Fair and fun course...set up nicely for hickory golf. Always in nice shape and great greens!
Glen Lakes Municipal Golf Course
Played On 01/15/2015Fun Course for Hickory Play
I play old smooth face hickory clubs and pre 1900 replica gutta percha balls. This course is perfect for hickory...elevated greens are great for running style play, and similar in yardage from the tips to what Old Tom Morris played in the 1800's. Course in good shape for a muni and greens are nice. Great winter value for 9 or 18. Excellent for walking as well!

Just terrible...think they only mow it. No other maintenance...everything broken, filthy and run down. Used to be a nice course, shot some of my best rounds there several years ago. But, I will NEVER play there again!
Hillcrest Golf Club at Sun City West
Played On 08/10/2014Course Has Gone Downhill
Sad as this used to be a nice, well manicured layout...uneven mowing, rough was impossible to even find your ball, cups looked like they had not been moved in weeks and generally unkempt except for, oddly enough, the bunkers! Had two perfect middle of the fairway lies where the grass was so long could only see the top of my ball. People are nice enough, but the maintenance is awful. In the past it has been a fun course to play.

Played On 06/29/2014Nice Course, Great for Hickory Play
I really like this course. It is fun, fair, and enjoyable for high handicappers like my self or for the single digit handicappers...just play from the right tees.
I play with hickory golf clubs, am a senior and play from the green tees (5847 yds) and this course gives me a challenge. It is usually in very nice shape and play moves along.
Great value for the money this time of year!

Played On 06/22/2014Be Sure to Hit It Straight
Not for high handicapper. Fairways have a lot of slope and many are fairly narrow, with natural desert both left and right...lots of rocks. If you don't hit it straight, lots of penalty strokes and damaged club faces. Sand traps full of rocks...not good. That being said, it is a challenging and fun course...just not well maintained right now.
StoneRidge Golf Course
Played On 06/08/2014Beautiful But Tough
Beautiful, scenic course...BUT, not a course for a high handicapper like me. Carry on every hole and really punishes you on poor shots. Would recommend it for low handicappers...otherwise, bring lots of golf balls...you will need them!

Fun and fair course. Not too difficult, but has some challenges. Great greens. Staff very friendly and helpful. Played 1800 style hickory clubs and a gutty ball. It is a great course for those.
