Stoeckeler Memorial Park & Golf Course
Played On 06/15/2014A great bargain via Golf Now! Worth the ride!
This is gem of a 9 hole course! The first time around it took it's toll on my score. Blind shots, sharp dog legs and quirky par threes make this a challenging day of golf. The greens were fast and really required the time to examine each putt. The rough is rough!. Stay out of it and your scores will benefit. Wonderful vistas ,elevated tee boxes, and trees (lots of them) hundreds of years old lend to the charm. If you go play 18 holes the second nine will let the secrets reveal themselves. I highly recommend this choice for anyone who would also enjoy the added benefit of a scenic trip to the Catskills.
Casperkill Golf Club
Played On 10/03/2013One of the best local public courses.
Greens were some of the best I've seen this season. Course is in good condition. The pace was quick but did not feel pushed. Staff is friendly and restaurant makes a great burger.
Winding Hills Golf Club
Played On 07/24/2013Great hidden gem of a course.
I played this course a few years ago and was totally surprised at not only the condition but also the improvements made in just 2 years. Tee boxes were level and well maintained. The greens ran true but because of the different tiers/slopes it made reading them a challenge. A number of double breaks and speed variations made this, comparatively short course a lot of fun to play. This is great course to work on your short game. You can leave your driver at home and bring an extra wedge. The pace of play is quick and they have rangers out to make sure it stays that way. It is also very pleasing to the eye and some of the tee to green distances are deceiving. Many holes require playing up at least one club. All in all I would recommend this course to anyone looking for a fast paced, fun round of golf. They also have a great restaurant, with good food at reasonable prices.
Rondout Golf Club
Played On 1/21/2013Great course for the money.
I played the course without a GPS so it was more challenging due to the fact that it was difficult to find exact yardage on about 50% of shots. Fairways were well maintained but I could still see the damage done by recent heavy rains to the cart paths. Taking that into consideration the course was in very good shape. Some greens showed evidence of water damage around the edges but rolled fairly true. Pace would have been better if we didn't have a grandfather with his wife and two grandsons slowing down play (they were taking 30 to 40 minutes to play a par 3). I had to skip a hole to play through. After that pace was rather quick. My only advice would be to make sure you stay in the fairway. My playing partner lost 3 balls that we watched land but could not find. He found 4 other balls so this must have been a problem for those in front of us also. All in all this a good course that could be great if not for the 5 inches of rain in one day two weeks ago. I will be returning especially with the great discounts on Golfnow.
