Avery Ranch Golf Club
Played On 06/08/2023Course Conditions Stuggling (Greens, Teeboxes)
I'll keep it simple, I read the other reviews recently and was worried but I'm not that stingy. Now, when you charge $80 for tee times and $8 for a small bucket of balls, there are expectations. These aren't met currently! The range balls are horrible, why charge almost $10 for a small bucket, serious?
Now for the worst part, the greens are in bad shape, most of the tee boxes are completely beat down and when you hit a bomb drive within wedge distance, you hit outta fluff grass that feels like hitting your ball sitting on top of pile cotton. The other reviews aren't lying, this course is certainly not worth the price and I've seen it for over $110 on the weekend, yikes! The greens are most important, no one likes putting over need for repair sections and little sand bunkers within the green :(
Now on the flip side, if they improve the greens and tee boxes, this is a great, challenging course with a ravines everywhere. Course knowledge is needed to shoot well. Pace of play was 4:15 for 9 am which is great for this course.
Small side comment - I arrived at the starter 10 minutes prior to my tee time (9:00 am), signed for my cart and made a joke that "it looks like we're already running a bit behind". There was a group that just took off with one waiting on the tee box at this time. The starter smirked saying, it's on time don't worry, and I said I'd like to see that. Joking turned a bit serious and he said fine, I'll bet you $1 a minute, I jokingly agreed. I go practice putt only to find a free drink ticket on my golf cart when I came back, we teed off 6 minutes late ;)
Crystal Falls Golf Course
Played On 02/28/2023Always worth playing!
I frequent this course, typically in the morning before 9:30. It's always a fast round under 4 hours everytime.
The course itself is challenging with lots of elevation and hills. Once you get to know it, it becomes a bit easier to know where the miss is. For a mostly flat area, this gives a bit more excitement then other courses around.
Current condition is a B, of course it's February so everything is still coming back. Greens are a little choppy but will improve into the spring. Some tee boxes (I play Blue), you won't find many nice grassy spots. Expected this time of year.
Overall, for it's price, I'd play this any time. Always a great friendly staff. Love the variety of some tacos at lunch during middle of the week. Can't wait til next time.
Crystal Falls Golf Course
Played On 09/18/2022Always a Gem
Was lucky enough to be the third tee time of the day. We finished in about 3:30 on. Sunday morning at 7:45. Course is in great shape. Greens are perfect. Second time playing here and getting use to some of the shots that require some course knowledge. Great views and can’t complain except for the range under maintenance til November. Worth the money and can’t wait to play agai.
talldustin, thank you for your kind words! We hope to see you again at the course very soon for another 5-star experience. Thanks for choosing Crystal Falls Golf Course.
Cinnabar Hills Golf Club - Lake/Canyon
Played On 03/15/2019Cinnabar is always a gem!
I’ve been playing here for years. One of my most favorite South Bay, If not, best public course around. Cinnabar would be a private course if there was real estate around. With three nine hole courses there’s a unique vibe to them all. Lake is always tough while Mountain is a bit easier and Canyon is my favorite tucked into the hills. It’s been wet this season but the course has held its own. No wind today and made for the best round of the season. The greens are perfect and the course is always in tip top shape. They really care to take care of it. Would recommend this to anyone who loves golf away from roads, freeways and wives. Play before the prices jump in the Summer. Still worth it at that time.
Crystal Springs Golf Course
Played On 08/02/2014Solid Course, Watch out for double/triple Bookings
Nice track overall. The greens are in real nice shape, rolling great. The fairways can be beat up in some spots, but playing better then last month. Lots of walkers caused the pace to slow. Marshalls actually keep you on pace, but can be a bit grumpy if you run into the wrong one. Way to overpriced in my opinion. Maybe due too being the only public track around the area. One month ago, my buddy booked n crystal springs website (mistake) and when we arrived, found out we were triple booked. They couldn't do anything about it so I complained to the GM and he severely discounted me during this round. Yet, if the price was 20% lower, I'd come around more often.
Waterlefe Golf & River Club
Played On 05/01/2014Perfection!
Coming from the drought and dried up courses in California, it's a blessing to play on such a beautiful course (for half the CA price). While there is water left, right, behind every hole, it's a very challenging and scenic course. The greens were the best shaped greens I've played in some time, yet a little slow (US Open qualifier in a few days...they said it'd go from a 9 to a 14..geez). Overall, the course, staff and facilities make you feel part of a country club. I enjoyed my time and will be back Sunday. Just like others said, I could play this everyday. Saturday, Sunday and Monday will be fast fast fast greens.
Cinnabar Hills Golf Club - Lake/Canyon
Played On 03/19/2014Cinna"bar-none"!
I frequent this course once or twice a month. It is a great deal and always maintains it's great shape and conditions. I've played Mountain and Canyon numerous times, but finally got to play Lake. Lake is the most difficult of the 3 9's located on the facility. We finished 18 and with the weather as beautiful as it was, played 27 (asked Pro Shop and said no problem). You will use most clubs in your bag and the putting is fast and difficult. Definitely one of the better courses in the South Bay that's public; feels like a Private course with it's quite environment in the hills. 5 star and will continue to play there.
Merlot/Chardonnay at Poppy Ridge Golf Course
Played On 03/02/2014Premier Course
When I want to play a course, I'm most concerned with the shape of a course. Of the multiple courses I've played all over the Bay, Poppy Ridge is bar none. From the practice facility to the course, it has the feel of a country club. Driving range off the grass, legit practice green with 2 large bunkers (needed for this course), large practice putting area with the same feel as greens on the course. Especially with the GolfNow discount, you can't beat this weekend price. The only one downfall was the weather, but that's our risk, it rained and was gusting 20-30 mph winds, which upped the difficulty. Regardless, on a bright sunny day, this course would play so well and I'm looking forward to that day. Staff was nice and the marshalls are always keeping everyone at a solid pace. Didn't like cart path only, but with fairways in that shape...no need to drive on soggy grass and ruin it during the rain; understandable. Bang for the buck, compares to Cinnabar in San Jose.
