Nice Course to be part of Georgia Parks!

My wife and I golf in Myrtle Beach, Hilton Head, Charleston, etc. and my wife made the remark that this course is as nice as any course that we have played. It is in great condition and you can tell that the maintenance crew does a terrific job with this course. We got to the 3rd hole and it started pouring rain. We paid for 18 holes but we only played nine holes because we had other obligations. We hope to play this course again in the near future.

We had an Awesome Time!

We were reluctant to play the course after reading negative reviews about the pro shop. I had a positive experience at the pro shop and was told how to get to hole one unlike what some of the other reviewers were saying. It has rain for every day down there for days and considering that the fairways, rough, and greens were in great condition. There were a couple of places on the front nine were the cart path needed repair and there were a couple of holes that had rough edges that flared out on top of the hole. That actually cost me a stroke or two. It seemed like the greens keeper struggled on a hole or two to get a nice clean cut on the hole. We saw 14 turkeys, a snake on the cart path to hole one, and a number of birds.. As Air Force Veterans my wife and I enjoyed the military aircraft flying over our heads. My wife and I enjoyed this course as any course we have ever played. This course is just as nice as any course that we have played in Hilton Head or Myrtle Beach! It needs a few improvements but this course is a solid 4 to 4 1/2 star course. Why anyone would complain about this course and not enjoy playing here is beyond me!

Nice course but Slow Round

This is one of the nicest golf courses that the public can play in Western North Carolina. We p;played it about four years ago and we have been waiting for the prices to come down. The course was overbooked when we played and our round was just under 5 hours. We waited several minutes at every tee box. They have new carts and our cart seemed to die around the turn at the pro shop and we had a hard time getting it going. One of the guys in front of us also had problems with his cart as well and I told him to take the key out and he got it going again. Very nice course if you don't mind the price and the crowd.

Greens need help but I love the Layout

As stated by previous reviewers the greens are not in good shape. I also noticed several divots on some of the tee boxes and some of the fairways were lacking grass in some areas. My wife and I loved the layout. My handicap is around 23 and I didn't have any problems with the force carryovers. The range area and practice putting green were very nice. The guy at the bag drop was very friendly and helpful. The wildlife at this course was incredible. We on;y saw one small alligator but we saw an Egret, Stork, Osprey, Squirrels,. and a big raccoon ran across the fairway as we were teeing off. We only played nine holes during twilight time and we never saw anyone in front of or behind us after the first hole We played another course in the area and we were offered free range balls because we booked through Golf Now but we were disappointed that we were not offered free range balls at Old South. A few tweaks here and there and this is a five star course but there are some areas that need improvement!

We are glad you enjoyed your day at Old South and hope to see you again. The few areas on a couple of greens are being addressed this summer but it will take some time for new grass to take over those areas.

Rough and Greens in awesome shape!

We played this course in September and I wrote a review stating that the rough was too high and that we found cut gold balls everywhere where a lawnmower passed by but this time the rough was much shorter and we didn't loose as many balls. There was one or two holes where you could see where the previous holes were but about 16 of 18 greens were perfect. Best green that I have played on. Course is in great shape. Last time we played I was told that people who booked through Golf Now didn't get free range balls but this time I was told that people who book through Golf Now get free range balls. The biggest asset at this golf course and the reason that I keep coming back is the friendly staff.

This course is finally coming Back!

We use to play this course year around but we quit playing here two years ago when several of the tee boxes (Women's) were completely removed, tee boxes became chewed up, and several of the greens were horrible. 3 or 4 years ago this was a top course and t looks like it is slowly coming back. All the staff has always been friendly and this is a beautiful but difficult course. Sand is needed in the sand trap on hole 14 and it could use more weed eating and mowing in some places but it has been raining a lot. We hope the new management keeps this course on Golf Now and that they keep this beautiful course maintained like it should be..

Very friendly staff but rough is just a tad too high!

I selected Robber's Row because It seemed to be a senior & women friendly course and many of the reviewers were commenting on how nice the staff was. We were not disappointed. From the staff member who picked up our clubs up at the bag drop, to the women at the pro shop, and to the starter; every one was very friendly. We really enjoyed playing this course and we saw a ton of wildlife. The only minor complaint that we have was that the rough was a little longer to our liking. We lost lots of balls just off the fairway and we found other golfers balls while looking for ours. A mower came by and there was pieces of cut balls all over the course. There has been local reports that our timeshare company Bluegreen is building a resort on this property and if this is true we hope to play this friendly course more in the future!

I'm glad to hear that our staff treated you well during your visit. We'll work on that rough so it's a little more forgiving on your next trip to HHI!

Nice Course but Interesting Course Management

We showed up to check in for our hot deal special and only one person was working the counter. The guy behind the counter was taking a reservation on the phone while 3 or 4 golfers were waiting at the counter until another staff member showed up to help us. My wife I and were paired up with a couple of young guys to make a foursome. Before we even got to the green on hole number one a twosome came charging up the fairway. I had two pars and a birdie on the first six holes when the ranger came to us and said that their was a large gap between us and the group in front of us so he split us up to make two twosomes. My wife and I caught up to the twosome in front of us by the 12th hole and from the 12th hole to the 18th hole we waited at every tee box. At one time I counted five twosomes in a row including my wife and I. I have no ideal why a foursome was sent out in a middle of twosomes. I have read past reviews where some claimed that they were rushed and I can see where that may occur. The ranger wasn't rude and we did finish in four hours and ten minutes so in the long run it wasn't all that bad. Logan at the bag drop said it was a rough day when we played but we did enjoy the course and it is well maintained.

Your Average Willard Byrd Course!

This is your typical Willard Byrd Course; narrow fairways, blind shots, dog legs galore, and fast greens that if you miss the hole your ball keeps on rolling down hill. I knew from reading previous reviews that since I signed up for the red hot special that I would be paired up with three strangers. Even though the young man in the pro shop told me on Sunday that Golf Now Courses do this I know for a fact that not all Golf Now Courses pair strangers up. I have played at least fifty rounds on ten Golf Now Courses in three states and this is only the second time I have even been paired up with strangers. Most Golf Now Courses that I have played have given me the option to play by myself (or with my partner as a twosome) or play with strangers. The three other guys were all friends that were fifteen years younger than me and I have a 75 to 80 mph swing speed but all three of them had a 115 to 120 mph swing speeds. I normally play from the gold or red tees but I played from the blues and white tees with them to speed things up and I have never done that before. I even rode in the cart with one of the guys and they were all nice to me but it could have been very awkward for many golfers. Be advise if you sign up as a single! I left after nine holes because I had to get home. Overall it wasn't all that bad and I enjoyed playing golf with my partners even though it was too much for me to play from the blue and white tees.

High Caliber Golf Course

As a local we are happy that this course is on Golf Now at great rates because normally we can't afford their regular rates. This is one of the better golf courses in the area. The fairways were nice and wide for the most part but you do have a couple of force carry overs on the front nine. The golf pro (Steve) was very friendly. We got rained out on the back nine and Steve gave us a raincheck for nine holes. The only negatives were that the greens were rough but I guess that can be expected for this time of year and two singles started right behind our three some. We had to let the singes pass after we finished the second hole and most courses of this caliber that we have played on pair golfers or put golfers in a group. Don't know if they allow singles when they are busy later in the Spring or Summer but other than that this is a nice course and we plan to come back.

Nice Course but the Rough is too High

Great cart paths and the course is well marked. They have 150 yard poles and the cart path is embedded with yardage signs. Sand traps were some of the best I have played. We got the $5 hamburger plate and the fries were the best we have eaten. The rough at Black Robin waa way too long. Clumps of grass was all over the place and the ball would sink in the grass until it was completely out of siight. Very diifficult hitting out of the rough. We were loosing balls less than a foot from the fairway and we were finding balls all over the course because an inner city tournament was held earlier that day. Loosing a ball on a hook or slice is one thing but loosing balls on the edge of the rough makes for a frustratinhg day. This is a 5 star coursr if they dont wait so long to mow and can cut the rough shorter.

Awesome Fairways!

The fairways are in excellent condition for this time of year. The greens have recently been punched and are very slow. The layout is great for seniors and beginners. All the staff were very nice. The starter gave us some fancy yardage books. Once the greens catch up to the lush green fairways this course will be one of the better courses in Western North Carolina.. Hard to beat the $18 per person for 18 holes that we paid through Golf Now! Will be back!

Great Course for Ladies, Beginners, and Seniors

We showed up in the Pro Shop and they had us down for three players instead of two but it was corrected quickly. We were assigned Blue Ridge/ Carolina. Before my wife could even tee off on hole one three golf carts showed up with guys playing in a tournament so we let them played through. The fairways and greens were good for this time of year, We enjoyed the Carolina course the best because the holes were pretty much straight ahead from the tees, . It isn't as fancy as some of the other courses in the area but it is a fun and easy course to play. We got a great deal for $18 through Golf Now but we would not pay full price to play this course. Will be back if we can get another good deal through Golf Now!.

Can't Beat the Price for a Course this Good!

Finally got to take my father-in-law to this course today and got the hot special for $10 each. The greens we played on at the Ridges were the best we have played on. The staff at the pro shop have always treated me and my family first class. Always look forward to playing here and it is worth the 35 minute drive for the price I paid! Will keep on coming back!

Best Staff and Greens in Myrtle Beach

This was the second time playing the course and this time we played the Piper/Bay. My wife and I were paired up with a couple from Canada.. Pros: The guys that meet you at the bag drop,, starters, and at the counter are all very friendly . The greens here are better any golf course I have played on. The man who we were paired up with was playing 6 courses in 7 days told me these were by far the best greens that he has played on in the area. Cons: When we went to get starter instructions I noticed about 20 golf bags were waiting to be loaded unto golf carts. We were told to start at the Piper as soon as the group in front of us left the tees. We had to wait at every tee box for the first nine holes on Piper and things finally started clearing up once we started playing the Bay. Our partner from Canada was telling us that the course was overbooked for that morning,They were doing lots of construction to the sand traps on the Bay and heavy equipment was every where. We played one hole that they were working on that for safety reasons we should have bypassed it. This is our favorite course in Myrtle Beach and it should be better once they are done working on the Bay 9. The staff here make you want to come back!

Exactly what we were looking for!

We were golfing on a budget and we didn't want to spend more that $25 on a round and that is what we paid. Pros: The starter, cart paths, and sand traps were the best we have seen on any course. The fairways and rough were cut short and in good condition. The course was beautiful and had lots of wild life on it. Cons: When we showed up at the club house there was a line at the counter. The man at the counter took two phone call wile people were waiting in line to check in. It took took 15 minutes before we were waited on. The Greens were fair. We have played on lot better greens and lot worse greens. This could be a great course if they can improve their customer service in the club house and improve their greens. We loved playing here and we will play here again.

Bring lots of Balls!

This is a very tough golf course for beginners. Lots of ponds, creeks, ravines and the rough is pretty high. Lost more ball here than any course that I have ever played. It was the only golf course that we have played that had GPS golf carts. Greens and Fairways were in excellent shape but some sand traps had standing water in them. I was told they are going to work on the sand traps in the near future.Play was extremely slow and we had to wait at every hole but we were warned of the slow play when we started by the nice man at the pro shop. The food cart lady passed us three times in 18 holes. She was as nice and friendly as other reviewers have said. Nice facility and I met very nice people but I really hated the slow play. Would like to play later in the evening to avoid the large crowd. Got a great deal from Golf Now and I only paid $32 in green fees for two players. Will come back one evening and bring more people!

Above Average Course and Geat Employees

This course is a step up from several of the courses that we have played in the area. The greens were fast but they were some of the best greens that I have played on. All the employees were very friendly. Was only scheduled to play nine holes but they gave me a rain check for 18 holes when it started raining before we could get on the course. When I showed up the next day I asked if it was a mistake about the rain check and they told me to go ahead and play 18 that I would play there again.Great deal for what you get! Don't know if it is elite for this area but it is above average and priced very reasonable through Golf Now. Will play again.

Course is being improved!

This is the second time playing the course. My wife and I enjoy playing this course. The greens are not in as good as shape as last year. They were putting top dressing on the greens when we were there. We also notice there were more employees this year compared to last year and that several places on the front nine were being worked on.. It appears that the staff is in the process of working on and improving this course. Less than 15 bucks to play nine holes is the best deal at Myrtle Beach.
