Sunset Ridge Golf Club
Played On 09/04/2023Tee's are embarrassing to golf
If you like hitting off tees with grass, look at other courses. By far the worst condition i have seen in years. Rest of the place was in decent shape... but what's the two things people remember most about a course? 1st the condition of the greens, 2nd the conditions of the tees. I play all over multiple times a week and never have a seen tee's this bad. New cart paths are nice though.

Took a great course and made is spectacular. The redesign with new tees, taking out trees and adding bunkers made this place a must play destination. Its just so good!

The place was is better shape than I remember it. Greens were nice and decently fast. Fairways well cut. Tee's need to be rolled, lots of unlevel tees. For this time of year I was happy with the conditions.

Of the three high end courses here this one is my favorite. Its the most fun! So well kept, great conditions.
The First Tee Syracuse Golf Complex at Butternut Creek
Played On 06/20/2023Nice Range, good par 3 course with carts
Its more of a practice facility than a course. But its a nice flat par 3 course that has carts. Good place to work on irons for a quick round. Greens not very good, cut really long.

This place seems to get worse and worse every year. Absolutely the worst course condition I've seen in the area this year. Theres not grass on the tees, no sand and seed to help grow them, Really bad condition fairways and greens. No sand in the bunkers. Its a real shame what this place has become over the years. Tree stumps everywhere that were cut down and they just left the stumps instead of grinding them and planting some grass seed?? Yea the new paved cart paths and parking lot are a nice touch... but id rather have dirt cart paths than dirt tees, fairways and greens. I think someone needs to remind them that seed + sand + water is how to grow grass... water your tees.

Played a tournament here the other day.... It was fun but the place was in rough shape.... honestly it looks like they gave up, which is unfortunate because its a pretty cool place. Basically just very poorly maintained. Tees were terrible as others have said, some with pretty much no grass, but everything else too that should be no brainers for a course... out of bound stakes all over the course were not marked and rotted and laying on the ground which caused problems in the tournament... bunkers were unlike any other place ive seen just piles of mud, fairways are full of crabgrass and weeds like they havent used chemicals all year... one fairways in particular was almost 100% crabgrass from 75 yards to the green.... no maintenance filling divots which are EVERYWHERE! Ant holes all over the greens. What a shame really, the place used to be nice. Luckily the food was good and the view was nice, place could be great if they actually tried.
I can assure you no one at Sunset RIdge has "given up" in fact quite the opposite. A new $36,000 irrigation system upgrade was just installed to address many of the issues you point out. Of course we are aware of the problems that remain to be solved on the property, but remember just 2 short years ago it was in foreclosure and may have ceased to exist altogether. COVID has been both good and bad for golf, rounds are way up allowing us to invest that kind of money into irrigation but the huge increase in rounds also leads to all the divots/pitch-marks and lack of grass on iron-play tees. Trying to be as safe as possible for our guests in the midst of a pandemic leaves bunker maintenance (rakes) and sand bottles off the course for most of the season and it shows. We were happy to provide a very generous discount price for your tournament group to raise money for a great cause and certainly disappointed with such a negative review. If you play when the event is back in 2021 you will see continued improvement in all areas. We are sorry that you didn't enjoy the course, as most people do enjoy it very much, but at least you enjoyed your meal. Our Chef and food are both terrific.

Very well kept and really nice greens. Lots of water and a challenging layout. Gets really wet in spring and heavy rain but they make it cart path only so the course stays nice. Great place for the price.

Pace of play and price was excellent, I was the only one there and it was free. The layout is a little strange though, theres a giant warehouse being built in the middle of the course. Some of the greens were in rough shape because they had trucks and construction vehicles driving over them constantly. Staff was not very friendly, they kept yelling at me that I needed a hard hat on and i can't be over there... but what am i supposed to do, leave a ProV1 inside the building frame... i don't think so! I heard Jeff Bezo's likes to play here too. Nice place!

Greens are burnt out... but at least they are up front about it on their website and are doing cheaper rates. Other than that its first class. Great layout and conditions. Don't think they prepared for the drought that well and were't watering the greens enough.

Thousand Islands Country Club - The Old Course
Played On 06/24/2020Great Views, Pretty well maintained, challenge from blue tees
On paper, you see the yardage and think the blue tees wont be bad, for the most part they arent but a couple holes are very challenging, like a 240 yard par 3. Green in good shape, fairways well kept. Its a bumpy ride, lots of little bumps in the fairways. Good views of the river and a good value, they usually have deals.
