Red Mountain Ranch Country Club
Played On 10/17/2021Nope
Combo of Pete Dye design (personally dislike every Dye course I've set foot on) course coming out of over seeding and clearly not ready for play, cart path only, excruciatingly slow pace of play led me to bail after 9 holes. 2 hours 40 mins. Played here once before and didn't enjoy it. Group had a $60 hotdeal so I agreed. My mistake. Slope of 145 is absurd and sucks the enjoyment completely out of the experience. Not sure why Dye thought it necessary to make courses nearly unplayable.
Arizona Biltmore Golf Club - Links Course
Played On 06/24/2018Loooooonnnnnngggg day, bad greens
Teed off at 8:30 am on a Sunday am. Starter gave us a little grief for not.being on the tee "on time"
Group ahead of us was on 1st green. Let me state a few important facts 1st. Our group played the tips, its only 6600 and some change from tips. We shot 70,77, 80 and 83. The greens were a disaster. If it wasnt dirt it was sprouting Bermuda. Seriously unputtable. Ok, we finished 1st hole and fornthe next 17 holes sat 6-10 minutes between each shot in the heat. A 3 some was holding up entire course and despite phone calls to pro shop from our group and group ahead of us, nothing was done. We love the layout and over all feel of the Az Biltmore but after 2 rounds at nearly 5 hours each, we've had enough. Cant return sorry folks.
Preserve Golf Course
Played On 06/10/2018Just amazing
I'm jealous of yhe course architect that was able to work with this land. Easily the most beautiful layout around. Only reason PGA tpur plays scottsdale and not here is because obese golf fans couldnt walk this course. If ypuve never played this beauty you're missing out. We played Sunday at 11 and had the course to ourselves. Tees and greens were very good. Fairways were patchy (ive played here a dozen times and this was worst ive seen them) BUT they were closing next day for aeration and over seeding. Course was still very worth the HOTDEAL price. Had a burger and a brew after round. Staff was great even tho Course was empty. Let them get punching/over seeding done and get your butt out here.
Lone Tree Golf Club
Played On 04/01/2018solid course, always enjoyable
My pals are locals and we have played here maybe a dozen times. Interesting layout. #9 is probably the best par 5 in the area. Staff is always friendly, and today we licked out and played in 3 hours and 20 mins. No one on the course. Greens were a tad hard and didn't hold every shot BUT that is seriously the only slightly bad thing I have to say. Play and enjoy!!!
Superstition Springs Golf Club
Played On 03/31/2018nice course, greenskeeper is keeping us from returning
My 3 golf pals and I are all locals, all between 45-65 yrs old, all between 4-7 handicap. We have played here 5 times total and today was the final time.
We play the green tees and have never played here in less than 4.75 hours. Today was 5 hours. The course is very pretty with some interesting holes. Notoriously small greens , which slows play because a missed greens is often an absurd chip. The greenskeeper places pins in the most ridiculous places this slowing play even further. Greens are ok speed/condition wise but when you have people playing that can't break 100 at Western Skies and you stick pins 2-3 paces off every corner you have a 5+ hour round.
The staff has always been very pleasant but waiting on every single shot as groups like up on tee boxes and then having 5-6 pins in a row that require a your pros best shot it sucks the fun out of the day.
As I said we are locals and when the summer hits and revenue is needed we will not return here. Sorry folks, your greens keeper and his pin cutting decisions have single handedly taken future revenue out of your pockets from us.
Red Mountain Ranch Country Club
Played On 03/03/2018yikes!!
Didn't realize it was a Pete Dye design until I was on the 1st tee and starter mentioned it. I have never been a Pete Dye fan, the master of blind shots, ridiculous greens and maximum penalty for a less than perfect shot, we even hit several pefect shots that wound up screwed or in trouble. All of that aside, the greens are rock hard and will not hold a well struck full wedge with a premium tour ball. And don't let anyone brag about "fast greens" , you can have fast greens that actually receive shots, I.e. Wildfire, southern dunes and even Dobson Ranch. Red Mountain greens are just painted pavement and it made the day even more frustrating considering it was a 5+ hour round. This was my one and only trip here. I live in the East valley and there are so many courses with much better layout, greens and pace of play.
Lone Tree Golf Club
Played On 12/30/2017greens are US OPEN ready
We have played this couse maybe once every 6 weeks , as we live near by. I am a 3 hcp and these are easily the best greens I've played in years. Greens were actually too good. And because greenskeeper woke up in wrong side of the bed and put pins in ridiculous spots on the majority of the greens, coupled with greens rolling easily over 12 on Stimp, it was a 3 putt fest and pace of play was mega slow. We will come back as we really enjoy the layout but Mr greenskeeper, for the love of God please be a little more realistic on pin placement with greens this fast.
Ahwatukee Country Club
Played On 12/16/2017Wet.....very wet
Have played here before. Layout has some interesting holes. Today was extremely wet. Haven't had rain lately. Looks like they over watered course. Fairways were oddly hard despite being soaked and greens looked horrible and didn't putt well. I will probably return in summer when rates are resonable.
Mountain Brook Golf Club
Played On 07/15/2017Yikes
Paid $21 for a HOTDEAL......over paid by $22.
Easily the worst greens we have ever played on. Mundane layout and horribly out dates pro shop/"restaurant". No beverage cart, and lady behind the bar in the "restaurant" was drawing her last breath. Please heed all of the reviews regarding this......ummmm.....course.
What a waste of a morning. Bulldoze this place and plant cotton.
Aguila Golf Course
Played On 04/02/2017Pavememt...slow slow pavement
Where do I start this one? Pro shop was a giant cluster and staff behind counter reflected that. Pro shop is tiny and there were easily 15-18 people milling around or waiting to check in. My friend and I booked a HOTDEAL and other 2 players that booked (no clue who they were) never showed. Yippie, we get to play as twosome amongst foursomes. Oh and someone in pro shop screwed up so they shoved a threesome between us and 4some in front of us. Blood boil at about a 6 brlefore even teeing off. Practice "green" was brown and felt like a sidewalk beneath your feet. I asked the starter if all greens on course were in same condition he said proudly, "yep, we have very fast greens here!" I said it's a burned out pc of dirt w no grass, how do you call it a green? He shrugged his shoulders. The course is entirely hard packed granite, they must be saving a fortune on water. Layout is not forgiving to start but fairways are so bone dry that any sideways moment of a shot results in a lost ball. "Greens" didn't hold any shot (we play proV's and r both low handicaps) and after 2 hours and 10 mins we were sitting on hole 7 waiting for group ahead of us who were waiting on group ahead of them. No ranger to be found. We drove in and left after 6 holes. What a massive waste of a day. Didn't have time to play somewhere else.
The only positive is that I can , w enthusiasm cross this goat ranch off my list of courses to replay.
Aguila must mean NO WATER ON GRASS in another language. (and before anyone that I just butt hurt cries, I'm well aware it means EAGLE. )
Arizona Biltmore Golf Club - Estates Course
Played On 12/25/2016Well worth it.
Played on Christmas day. Want to thank the staff for being there and being in a good mood. Every person I encountered was very cheerful and pleasant.
Got paired up w a nice guy visiting family and we had a blast. Course was a tad wet as it had rained a large portion of previous day, so it was cart path only. Not a huge deal as we were 2 of just a handful of players that day. Course (Adobe) was interesting enough and not terribly long so we played the tips. Greens were perfect despite receiving so much rain previous day. Pin positions were a bit sketchy for Xmas day, lol. My partner suggested that greens keeper was in a bad mood so he was going to punish us. From tips a handful of par 4's have some beef, 400+ yds, but even from tips most par 5's are reachable or nearly reachable. Beautiful 2 million dollar + homes on many holes, all in all a good day. AND if you are playing before years end (6 days left) spending $100 on merchandise in pro shop gets you a free round of golf, which I took advantage of. Ask the gentlemen in pro shop for details tho. I will return here for sure, great place with history and friendly staff.
Longbow Golf Club
Played On 10/01/2016trust the reviews u read
Oh boy.......unorganized bag boy/cart crew. Tee time was 10:08......hit my 1st tee shot at 10:33......multiple groups stacked on every hole, long waits on every shot.
Sorry fellas, this couse isn't "all that". Greens are hard as concrete and will only hold glue covered Pro Vs dropped from one of the incredibly low flying planes that you get to listen to The entire round. Water......guys, water goes on The greens.
The layout is ambiguous w incredibly narrow and punishing fairways. Hit a handful of tee shots down the middle that wound up in the junk.....classy. Took 3 hrs 15 mins to get thru 11 holes....that's unacceptable. I walked off. Ranger was driving around all day w a blank stare on his face. He has to know what a cluster this place is.
Oh and like the other reviews state, you will have to carry your clubs and what ever else u don't want to leave sitting unattended in a cart,to the range , as they don't give u cart keys until u remind them that ur tee time was 10:08 and it's now 10:11.
Trust what you read guys, this place is not worth the drive.
Papago Golf Course
Played On 09/18/2016missing the "wow" of this course.
Well......decided to give this one a try because of the "history" of it. Its a 30 min drive from my house (past many courses I have played and enjoyed). There was a tournament before play today and pins were cut in ridiculous places on corners and edges of greens making putting a joke. I was fortunate enough to be paired up w 2 great guys that have played here several times because this layout is a series of ambiguous tee shots. Several times I would ask where the @!##&* fairway was. When they told me , it was completely different than where I assumed.
I seriously can't believe people use to sleep in their cars to get tee times here, lolololol. And the LPGA played a tournament here?!?! I'm sure the players wondered if they had lost a bet and were forced to play here. Its honestly not scenic at all and the par 3's are absurd distances to impossible greens. Sorry, but there are way too many other courses in same price range that will bring more joy.

Decided to make the 30 min drive from Chandler to given this one a shot.
Pro shop gentleman was a truley great start to the experience. Very pleasant and accommodating.
Just a heads up.....you can purchase a draft beer and take it on the course but you can buy a can or bottle and take it on the course.........whatever. BYOB.
Course had some interesting holes but greens were just horrid. The 3some I played with said they had punched them a week before.
They are nowhere near ready for play. I managed to shoot a 73 from tips, but should have been much lower as course isn't terribly difficult. But those greens.......dang.
It was a haul for me, probably won't return as course just insnt interesting enough for the drive.
Thank you simmons7080 for the review and feedback. We appreciate you taking the time and are so happy our staff was able to get your day off to a great start. We hope you will come back and make the drive again to see us as we would love to have you back again soon!
Raven Golf Club - Phoenix
Played On 07/23/2016The Raven knows how to fly!
Read the reviews on Golfnow, booked a round based on reviews. They were spot on. Staff , bag boy, pro shop staff, beverage cart lady, were all very friendly and accomodating. Saw the cart 4 times in our round, plus there were water stations every 3 holes. Course was in good shape for the heat we've had. Some bare/dry areas here and there. But greens were pretty darn good. Not terribly fast but smooth and the ball held its line when struck. Layout of course was interesting enough to play again and again. I will def return and bring any friends visiting to this course. Well done Raven staff!!
Arizona Golf Resort
Played On 07/16/2016Staff is only redemption
This was my 2nd attempt to play here. Course conditions were pretty sad. Pace of play was a disaster. Of course no Marshall in summer, so.....yea. 11 holes was all I could handle. Waiting 10-12 mins between shots was misery. ONLY redeeming quality was staff. They were wonderful. But I will not be returning.
simmons7080,
We just hired a superintendent who was in charge of a PGA tour course where they played the Shell Houston Open. The course is getting better and we apologize for the pace of play. Please give us another chance. Come play a round on us and let us know what we can do to better serve you.
Ocotillo Golf Club - White/Gold
Played On 04/08/2016its a beauty!
Staff was seriously A+ all around , every one we encountered. We played Blue-White course and the layout was visually just absolutely georgous. Greens were ok, I suppose they could have been a tad better for the price but....everything else was spectacular. There is a card in each card w map of the hole, yardage to water etc. Genius!!! Every course should try this....all it does is speed up play....GENIUS! Hopefully someone from the course will read this because we will gladly make the trip back up from Tucson to play this gem again. Great job everyone at the course!!
McDowell Mountain Golf Club
Played On 04/03/2016overpriced
Paid $108, have played better courses in peak season for half this price. Greens were ok, tee boxes and fairways were usable, sand in bunkers was way too deep and cheap sand. Most bunkers had not been maintained and were very crusty on top. Course layout will bore you to sleep. A couple quirky holes here and there but not enough to make us return. Staff was friendly enough and dining/bar area were outstanding. But the course....not so much.
Quail Canyon Golf Course
Played On 02/21/2016yikes!!
The gentleman behind the counter was extremely personable. That's about the only positive thing I can say. If you're anywhere near a serious golfer.....stay away. Unfortunately this place is a very sad goat pasture w 18 flags stuck in it. I think the wife and I paid $15 each to ride 18...that's about $16 too much. If you and the kids want to come out and slap a ball around and don't really care about trying to play golf, then this is your place. As for the wife and I we can't bring ourselves to visit again.
El Conquistador Golf & Tennis - Canada Course

3rd time playing here. Made us warm up(range) off of mats.....wtf?! This using winter in Indiana. Grass, baby, its right the rest us hit off of it. Layout has potential BUT waaaayyyyy too much uphill/downhill b.a. to make it enjoyable. Greens still very fuzzy. Better than before, but still sub par for a former HILTON course. Beverage cart girl informed us that she was quittig for the day....it was noon....byob. Too many other courses in better shape. Play elsewhere.
We are sorry to hear about your experience. Our General Manager would love to speak with you and discuss your comments and concerns.
