Super disappointing

We have played here many times before. However the greens were the worst I have seen. The fairways are fair. However, the pace of play has gotten soooooo bad, I will not be returning. The frustration of being behind golfers who feel they belong playing from the back, search for balls on every shot, and you may catch the beverage cart once, maybe. It took us 4 hrs 20 mins to play 8. While the clerk was courteous, she was unable to provide us a partial refund or credit because we paid for round via third party. Condition + pace = not worth it!

Great Course/Rude Staff

We have played this course only a handful of times. While the course is great, greens and fairways are in excellent condition, and we got a decent golf now deal, every time we play here, we experience the same rudeness of staff upon check-in. That’s why we do not frequent this course.

As if the person behind the counter is doing me some favor to allow me to play here. Perhaps a woman is somehow discredited as a serious golfer, when I could probably outplay many of the staff!

Perhaps because of the recent rains, many of the wildflowers/wild grass in front of the forward tees were pretty high, and should be cut.

It will be a while before I give the course another try…get your staff right and maybe we will be back.

Not too hot today

We haven’t played this one in years. Our tee time was at 12:50, we were paired up with 2 other singles and the Starter had use going off on time. The course was a steady pace, 4-somes on each hole, and we saw the Marshall a couple times. It took us 4 hours and 20 minutes to play 18…but somehow the pace was not too slow. Our cart seemed to be on high-lock down mode as we were on the cart path it would begin to beep telling us we were in restricted area, and that was a pain (spent lots of time in reverse trying to get out of seemingly passable spots!). The conditions were good, the fairways/greens were slow from the rain, but course was in overall good shape. I think we saw the beverage cart 2-3 times during our round, but we brought our own water. Thank goodness the temp was only 89 when we started so it wasn’t over 100 when we entered the back nine down in the no-air zone! If we can find another good rate, we would play again.

Haven’t played this course in several years

I haven’t played this course in a couple of years. The overall rating is good. The greens were in great condition. I like that there is a starter and Marshall that helps ensure pace of play is tolerable. This facility has a nice chipping practice area, onto a green that is separate that the putting green practice area. We didn’t buy drinks from the cart, but we did see her at least 2 times during our 18. The course isn’t crazy challenging and is mostly flat to moderate terrain. It’s not the most beautiful based on surrounding landscape, but definitely worth the price we paid on golf now. Can be a little breezy here.

Unexpected find

We generally play at the Hyatt in San Antonio but happened to try this course for the first time. The staff was friendly and the golf now deal we got was good. The course was in pretty good condition. The first 9 were my favorite holes...good layout, great topography to provide good challenge. The back nine is more flat and back and forth with a lot of people hitting balls into other fairways, so be cautious. The greens were in good shape, with some signs of wear, but very good. The sand traps were more dirt than sand. The course was crowded, but because they have a starter and Marshall patrolling, we played a good pace on front...then when we turned, somehow a group of young golfers got in front of us. 4 people using 3 sets of clubs and hitting multiple balls while we waited and watched. We called the clubhouse and Marshall came right out to correct the situation. We played through the youngsters on hole 11 and then went back to our good pace. I would definitely play again.

First time

We found a good afternoon rate for this course, and being new to area decided to give it a try. The course was under bunker renovation when we played. The layout was good, conditions were good, gave enough challenge and greens were in good condition. We will definitely play again as this is close to our home. We were a little hungry befor we teed off, so visited bar for a hot dog on the go...we thought $5 was kind of high for a single dog!

First Timers

I booked the course apparently not reading the details that we would play the same 9 twice. I am not a fan of this type of course, but as we got playing it was apparent it’s not exactly the same 9 played twice. For each tee box and each green, the markers are in different locations: so for hole 1, you tee off at a different tee box than you do for the same hole used for hole 10. Same goes with the green...the pin for 1 is in a different location than 10. This caused some confusion at first, but we just had to remind ourselves which color we were playing. The setting is actually very nice because of the surrounding lake. The carts do not have navigation or amenities for club cleaning, etc. The course was full, and the pace was pretty good until around hole 13, then we waited at every hole. We were paired up with another 2 guys who were singles and one was a regular at this course so he was helpful in navigation. Some fairways were narrow so you will find other playing on your fairway. Because there are 2 pins on the green, some of the greens are pretty small so placement on the green can be challenging. We got a great deal on golf now ($25/2) so would definitely play again at that price. Heard there was a driving range but didn’t use it - it’s around a corner and not really visible that even existed.

Probably not again

This was our first time here. The price was good from golf now, but with many other options, we will probably not play here again. The tee boxes were like concrete, could barely get tee in the ground. Many areas of course were like hitting off pavement. The sand traps were unplayable, but potentially due to rain deterioration, again like cement. The fairways were narrow which lead to many other golfers playing on your fairway from errant shots. Pace of play was good on the first 9, but then backed up quite a bit requiring waiting for each shot. The green has lots of weeds and the black tee box on the 11th hole had grass 2-3 inches high.

Course is OK, not sure I would try it again

When we checked in, we were told they were running about 15 minutes behind so they offered tokens for range balls and apologized. We didn’t tee off until about an hour past our tee time and of course were then concerned if we could get 18 in before the sunset (and we were not able to finish). By now, the course was pretty backed up so had to wait for golfers ahead of us to clear on probably 1/2 the course. The staff was apologetic and offered us a free round the next time, so they were trying their best to acknowledge the unfortunate situation we were in. The course conditions were ok, not great. The course doesn’t have very many sand traps to get stuck in, has some elevation changes, and was overall relatively easy to play. The course directions were a little unclear but we had someone with us who played here before so that was helpful. We are new to the area and knowing there are plenty of courses to try, we will most likely seek an alternate course for the next round.

Always a favorite!

For San Antonio golf, the Hyatt is my favorite. Because they have 27 holes, the pace always seems good with the number of golfers they allow. They also don't bunch up tee times to ridiculous increments that ensure waiting! The course is in great condition and offers lots of variety on topography and challenge. They offer new electric carts with GPS and the facilities are top notch. Always a great experience and worth the little extra to play here.

Getting Better

I have read a lot about this course and how it's on the come back. If the grounds were watered more, it would be an excellent course. The tee boxes, fairways and green show signs of distress from lack of watering, but my understanding is it is better than before. The carts are gas, we prefer electric. The clubhouse is very nice...worth $33 on GolfNow, but sure I would pay much more until it gets more water. Sand trap were pretty dry as well.

Thanks for your feedback about the course! There are a few dry spots as with all golf courses during a drought. Additionally, as with any new golf course or reconstructed course, irrigation heads will need to be adjusted one by one over the course of time. Wind additionally plays a role in coverage. Rain is always best to ensure 100% coverage.

Great if good deal found on GolfNow

First time my husband and I played here. We heard a lot about courses at LaCantera and wanted to try them. We found good deal on GolfNow. Course was in excellent condition for a hot summer day. Good variety of course topography and green challenges. Pace of play was great after we separated from 2 singles paired up with us and one of those guys thought he was on the tour and didn't observe ready golf protocol, really slowing us down for the first 4 holes. The only negative thing I would say is that paying full price here is not worth it. I equate this course with other local courses like Hyatt, Cedar Creek and the Quarry where prices are lower.

First time and will be back

My husband and I played this for the first time last Sunday. Its was hot, as expected in August in San Antonio. We were paired up with another couple and they were very friendly. The course was is great shape for time of year and the heat. We saw the beverage service once on front and once on back...very friendly. The back 9 is down inside the actual quarry, so it is hotter in there because there's really no breeze. The guys handling the carts were a little pushy to "take care of your clubs" and no carts were allowed anywhere near parking. Course had a lot of variety and was challenging enough for me. We will definitely be back for another round on a good golf now rate. There is no gps or scope for distance....that's the only draw back. Some holes were deceiving on distance by naked eye.

Good, but...

This was our first time playing this course. We heard/read a lot of great things about it. It's pretty much back and forth, fairly straight so not too difficult in that regard. However, the trickiest part is that most of the greens are surrounded by sand traps. So, unless you are great with your wedge, rolling up on the green is very difficult. And speaking of the greens, some were squares or rectangles and I have never seen such a thing. Course conditions for time of year were good. Staff was friendly. But if I had to pay full price, I would rather play the Hyatt courses on west side of San Antonio, they offer better variety of same good conditions. Prices for drinks were fair, but no cart came around on a 100 degree day!

Not worth the drive

The course is in bad shape, lots of weeds on the greens and definitely impacted putts. If you get off the fairway, you will see a ton of rock, not worth damaging your club over. Staff is always very friendly but since its a 30-40 minute drive from Helotes, its not worth the drive. We got behind some folks on the second 9 that had no clue what "ready golf" was and really slowed down pace of play to add to the misery of this course. Sorry, but I have tried this one 3 times now and probably not going back.

Not Worth the Drive from San Antonio

We played this course for first and last time. Not worth the drive from Helotes, but fees were cheap. There was no course management and residents from around the course just squeezed in whenever and wherever they wanted, disrupting the speed of play. We didn't play our full 18 because of the wait. No GPS on carts, map of course not available, fairways were in bad shape, course not adequately marked for distance, lots of dirt/rocks and bunkers had grass growing in them.

Absolutely Amazing

We were celebrating my birthday in Vegas and a friend recommended this course. It is probably the prettiest and best maintained one we have ever played. It is pretty challenging and we lost balls but that should not scare away because it was a great time. We enjoyed the fact the golfers maintained the proper attire, didn't slow down the pace with extra shots and searching too long for lost golf balls. The staff greatest us in the parking lot to help get clubs ready before and after the round. We got an extremely great deal at $43 per player thru Golf Now and it was we'll, well worth it. The Marshall was out cruising checking on pace and we finished right about 4 hours. He wasn't the friendliness guy so that's why I only gave 4 stars in this area. Great day all in all!

First Time, can find better course for same money

This is the first time we played this course. We had a 3-some, 2 men and one woman. The course itself was fairly simple, open and forgiving. Shots winding up on another hole’s fairway could be played with no problems (others playing in your fairway as well). The gentleman behind the counter was friendly and the course was not necessarily busy and the first 9 holes played at a great pace. However, we had a 4-some wind up in front of us on the back 9 and it all went downhill from there. Men wearing denim shorts, sleeveless cut off t-shirts, taking extra shots and really slowing down the pace of play. The course was in OK condition, not the best with a HUGE anthill problem. There are prettier courses in better shape with more disciplined golfers in San Antonio for the same or less money when using Golf Now for deals.

Nice setting...good value

This was our first time playing here...for early September and in our drought, the course was in pretty decent shape. The course itself is not difficult and kind forgiving for newer golfers because fairways run in parallel in doe instances. We will definitely play this one again, in fact we will probably play on a Saturday, stay the night at the resort and then play again Sunday. The entire venue seems very nice in a beautiful setting.

Great value for the money

This was our first time playing this course. The staff was friendly, the course was in great shape for late August in the heat of Texas, kinda narrow course, but good challenge. First 9 we played kinda fast, no back-ups and marshall was out monitoring play, but the second 9 was very slow...had to wait at each hole for 3-some ahead of us to tee off and take 2nd shot. Greens were in good shape! We will definitely be back!
