Whirlpool Golf

Whirlpool golf course is definitely a nice course, but it does lack some characteristics that are keeping it from being a prefect score.

Most of the course is in good condition. The fairways and tee-boxes were well maintained. However, I felt the greens were not up to the quality of the rest of the course. Whirlpool had some trouble with their greens earlier in the season because of the rough winter, but even now in August you can tell they are not 100%. This means the greens ran much slower and had some rough spots on them.

There are some nice holes here but the layout and selection of holes could be better. All the fairways are fully tree-lined and make for a scenic round. I found that despite all the trees, they didn't prove to be much of an issue with such wide forgiving fairways and large elevated greens. If you combine this mostly straight-away holes and water rarely in play, I feel this course plays quite easy.

I feel these are minor issues for what is otherwise a great golf experience. I will definitely be back here playing again and would recommend it to others.

Discount Course

This isn't a course i would play if it wasn't offered as a hot deal from golfnow. The fairways and rough are barely distinguishable. The course yardages and scorecard yardages are not accurate and the pace was very slow. The greens at least were in decent enough condition.

Bottom line there are better places to play even at this price point in the Niagara Reign and great places to play for slightly more cash.

Twenty Valley Golf

We played at the end of April and the golf course was using temporary greens on 5 of the holes. I felt this did diminish the value of the round quite a bit because it definitely changed the layout on some of the course's signature holes. Because of this, everyone in my group was given a 2 for 1 green fees coupon we could use anytime this year.

The rest of the course was in better then average condition considering it's the start of the season and the rough winter we had. I am looking forward to playing there again.

Nice Views at Elk Valley Golf Course

This golf course is a nice quiet place for an enjoyable round. It has a great layout with many holes having nice elevation changes from tee to green. Some of the views are worth a quick picture, definitely a course with good scenic value.

The golf course plays quite easy. There aren't many hazards other then a pond or two, and no bunkers. Other then dealing with a couple hilly lies most players should expect better then average score here, if they can stay out of the trees.

The course conditions were decent for the start of the season. I would like to see the greens smoother and cut shorter because they ran very slow. The red tee blocks also should be better cared for. Many were in much worse shape then the whites. The rest of the course was well maintained.

I would definitely play this course again if i was in the area and would recommend it to others.

Excellent Course

I expected a lot going to thundering waters for the first time, and because i did some research found it one of the most enjoyable courses in Niagara just behind Grand Niagara and Penn Lakes.

As most people have noted it is a super short course from the whites or blues. Anyone under a 15 handicap should be playing from the Blacks. ( 6153 yards ) Even this is not a long course, but the layout and diversity of holes is spectacular. The par 3s are challenging and may holes require quality shot making that i can appreciate.

My group played early Sunday Morning, third group off the start and at this time the course was nothing but pristine from tee to green. I found myself in a few bunkers all of which were up to much higher standards then other courses in Niagara, and one of the few that use high quality sand.

GPS on the carts is a nice added touch. The system worked well, i could see it more useful to someone playing the course for the first time.

My whole foursome all thought this was one of the best course we played this year and would play it again.

A top 5 course in Niagara

From tee to green this course is stunning. Maintenance wise, this course is better then all but 2 courses in Niagara. Can't say much more then that, other then the mowers were a constant sight on every other hole. They did stop, but some people could see that as a distraction.

The layout is classic Stanley Thompson, another small point might be to have better direction to the next tee for players unfamiliar with the course.

Something i did notice was a disrespect feeling from the members of the course and interestingly enough i see other reviews commenting on this as well. I guess this can be expected from a course that was recently opened to the public after being a private club. Before we tee'd off on the first hole a member overheard it was my first time playing this course and made a rude comment to someone in my group to keep up pace of play.

Anyways, if some of their members can chill out everyone can finally enjoy this great course.

Very good layout, conditioning should be better.

Royal Niagara is an interesting course, and a difficult one to review because it has good days and ugly days. This particular day was closer to ugly. After a heavy rain that happened two days earlier in the week, nearly every bunker had 5+ inches of water in it. I ended up losing 2 balls because of this, however on other holes i found 5 from people that lost balls in a similar fashion. The green were slow, and roughed up with ball marks, spike marks and weren't consistent. The rest of the course was in good shape.

Maintenance aside, the layout, elevation changes and uniqueness of the holes make this course very fun to play over and over. Many of the holes have scenic views and aren't spoiled by the maintenance issues of the greens and bunkers.

We played iron bridge (definitely my favorite) and Escarpment. The pace was slow on the first 9 due to a morning tournament, but the back was pretty open.

I find many of the reviews here are overly hash, but like i said this course will always have good and bad days and I've seen it on both sides. For $50 or less from golfnow this will always be a great value and an enjoyable golf experience, but i wouldn't pay more then that.

Beechwood Golf

This is not a course i would play in Niagara if it wasn't on for a hot deal. There are quite a few issues for a med-tier cost course that make other courses look like much better value.

The rough here is always painful.(They don't cut it) There are times you wont see where your ball is until you are right on-top of it. While other times you might get a good drive then not be able to find your ball a couple feet off the fairway. The condition of the rest of the course was average at best. A couple of the greens were being aerated. They don't use stake yardage marker here, only small yardage bricks in the ground and on many holes they are difficult or time consuming to search for. As far as the layout goes, there are a lot of hazards and well placed trees to make things a bit more difficult, especially on the back 9. Losing a bunch of balls here is a possibility.

There was no drinks cart, which seemed odd for a Sunday, when there was a lot of people on the course.

The staff are nice enough. I have played in tournaments here before and the service and food in the "old barn" style club house was very good.

Value Golf for learning the Game

Waterpark is what i would call a discount golf course, but it still plays too short for non-juniors or intermediate players ( only 2 par 5s)

Generally the course isn't too busy but on this particular day they were also having a tournament so it was pretty slow.

For under $20 with a cart it is still a good deal, but some might prefer to play a longer course for just a little more.

This is a great little course, with a variety of holes and well conditioned greens. The course play quite short. Anyone under a 20 handicap should really be playing from the back tees and even then you will see a 230 yard par 4.

That said, there are some challenges here. The greens are very small and most have serious slopes to them. They are well maintained and ran faster then you would think for a golf course at this price. There are challenging longer holes as well. One particular par 5 is over 550 yards that requires a few good shots.

When you consider the value of this course ( we paid $5 hot deal) it is simply impossible to say anything is wrong or less then expected at this course. There was no drink cart service, the fairways could have been better, but when you ask yourself could you have had a better golf experience for $5? It's not possible.

Side note. This is an easy course to walk, however if you are interested in riding and it wasn't included from golfnow, the course charges $15 per rider for 18 holes.

Great golf course, that is never too busy

Riverview is a great course that features a very different front and back 9, which gives it one of the better layouts of a course in the region. The front plays super long, flat and quite open for long hitters. The back looks like a completely different course. There is a lot of elevation and water on nearly every hole. A bomber might get away with a great score on the front, but the back feels like more of a shot makers course.

The course itself is well maintained from tee to green. The pace of play is always exceptionally good. I go to this course a couple times a year and it is never too busy.

Staff is always very nice and makes you feel like they appreciate your business,

Good Layout, Greens need some work.

This course has a great layout, with a wide variety or doglegs, elevation changes and hazards on many holes. Because of this there is great potential however there are issues.

The greens are the extremely slow even on a hot dry day. The rest of the course, fairways, bunkers, tee blocks are all in average condition. There should be more cart paths around the course.

The staff was very friendly, much better then many courses around Niagara, we even got free bbq burgers / hot dogs after 9 holes which was a part of the long weekend deal.

The pace of play on the long weekend was a bit slow, however i play this course many times every year, and normally it is quite open and you can fly around the course very quickly if you wish.

Willodell Golf Club

The course was in great condition from tee to green. There are many tee off blocks making the course play from 5258 to 6724 yards, accommodating all skill levels.

We particularly enjoyed holes 14 -18 that follow the creek. All these holes have wonderful elevation changes and some blind tee / approach shots that are even more enjoyable from the back tees.

There's not much level ground around this course, which is especially noticeable when riding in a cart. Many fairways have mounds everywhere which makes for a very bumpy ride. If someone has back problems, they might want to bring some extra cushion, or simply be better off walking.

This would be a very easy course to walk because the holes are close together. Because of this a stray tee shot can easily end up in another fairway.

The pace of play was quite slow for a Tuesday and would've liked to see a marshal around telling one foursome in particular to speed up or let people pass.

Willodell is a nice course and a good value from golfnow.
I would play again.

Port Golf and it's many Trees

The feature to remember from this golf course are the dense tree lined fairways. Many of the holes are doglegs where you need to hit a spot in the fairway to get a decent angle to the green. Being accurate is a must for good scores here.

The greens are quite small, hard, fast and didn't seem to hold many shots. The rest of the course was in good condition. Fairways and bunkers were above average, but some of the tee boxes were a little beat up and could have been flatter.

Very nice course, excellent value for a round.
Would be a very easy course to walk because there is literally zero elevation changes, other then a few very small mounds around some of the fairways.

Links golf at Hunters Pointe

There is a lot to like about this course and only one negative that stopped me from giving a perfect score.

The staff was very nice and starter gave a good introduction to the course, being our first time playing, explaining current course conditions and pin positions.

We found the course to be a nice challenge with rock hard fairways and greens that would roll the ball forever. This level of quality on a links course was expected and enjoyed by everyone in the group.

However, there was serious issues with a number of the bunkers around the course. Many of them were rock hard with barely any sand, like hitting off concrete. While others had puddles of water sitting in them, obviously unplayable. On another course i could have let this issue pass, but here with so many bunkers, i thought they would have been up to the standards of the rest of the course.

The pace of play was adequate for a full golf course. Yes we had to wait for 2-3 minutes at every tee-off for the group ahead of us, but it gave us time to plan our strategy for each hole and didn't diminish the experience.

This course is very enjoyable to play and picturesque holes 9 and 18 are definitely an amazing sight to see and play, over and over.

Would play again.

Amazing value

This has been one of my favorite course in Niagara for the past couple of years. The golf course itself is in great shape, comparable to course that would cost twice as much or more. You just can't beat the value of playing this course. There is a lot of water hazards, and it favors shot makers over long hitters. Taking advantage of the 5 par 5s can make up some shots just stay out of the water !

On the weekends it can get quite busy, but we still got our round done in 4 hours.

This course is always fun, and a challenge for all golfers.

Good Course

This course is highlighted by some very good and challenging greens, that play quicker than you think. As a par 70 course, it doesn't play too long, however there are a couple longer par 3s and the three par 5s are all reachable.

While I enjoyed my round there, I would only go back for a similar deal. At it's standard price I feel there are courses in Niagara that provide a better value.

Great Course

Played this course for the first time expecting a lot, and it delivered.
The greens, fairways, and tee-offs were all in excellent condition. Bunkers probably could have used more sand, but that's a small point.

The massive fairways and greens can make anyone feel like they are playing well, even miss hits seem to find a piece of the 40-60 yard wide fairways. Because of this the course plays quite easy if you can avoid the well placed bunkers (and there are a lot of them ). The greens were hard, fast and always ran perfectly true. Holes were very well spaced out. We played on a very hot Tuesday and seemed to have the course to ourselves, didn't have other groups within a hole of us, in front or behind all day. The course also had a cart girl that as saw twice on each 9.

Simply a great course, really a must play for any golfer in Niagara.
