Monroe Country Club
Played On 08/11/2019Top Public Course in Charlotte
Monroe CC is one of my favorite courses in the Charlotte area. Great layout and amazing greens. They must have punched the greens about 10-14 days ago, but it had little effect on the speed. Downhill down grain and that ball will roll off the green if not properly judged. Keep these course conditions up and I will continue to recommend this course and drive 40 minutes to get here. Only recommendation would be to create a tee set (white/blue mix) that plays about 6500 yards.
Grand Cypress - North/South
Played On 07/20/2018North/South great course in Orlando
The North Course was fantastic. very playable, fun, yet challenging. The South Course was a little bit harder especially #6 a true 3 shot par 5. #6 is stupidly hard, but i didn't nix anything on that for the rating. I highly recommend playing here.
A note to Grand Cypress. The South Course was 100% in an aeration period and there was no mention of that at booking or during check in. I would appreciate you be upfront and honest with people so they don't get disappointed on the first hole.
Eagle Chase Golf Club
Played On 06/29/2018Fun Course
this was a fun course to play. elevation changes, short par 4s, reachable par 5s. this course had a little bit of everything. I highly recommend you make the drive out to play this course.
Red Bridge Golf and Country Club
Played On 06/17/2018dry and hard
The course layout was great. There were some short holes, some long holes, and some really fun holes like the 300 yd par 4 on the back where you can have some fun trying to pop the corner and avoiding the water near the green. I recommend trying, if your pace of play is good. The course itself was very dry and hard so hopefully you are comfortable hitting off tight lies. there are a couple of dead spots on a couple greens, but it didn't really effect the play except for appearances.
Olde Sycamore Golf Plantation
Played On 08/04/2017Layup off the tee
I love a course where maybe 3 or 4 holes you have to be smart and take an iron, hybrid, or 3-5 wood off the tee to get good position. But playing here i felt i could have left the driver in the trunk of my car. Most holes had a hazard about 250 yards off the tee or a dogleg at about 230. I played from the blue tees (6300 yards) which is right on par with my normal yardage. The greens were a little rough, but that is because of the Bent greens in the heat. So to the people who have not played the course before, hit a drive about 260 yards, and are reading reviews, keep the driver in the bag!!
Mooresville Golf Club
Played On 06/30/2017Font 9 Layout
The front nine of the course had the major redesign and it is incredible. the native grass really adds a nice touch to this public course. The greens were a good speed. My only complaint is that the greens are hard as a rock, but that may be due to them being so new. The only thing i would recommend to players is to play to the front of the green and let the ball release because it is hard to get spin on the hard greens.
Monroe Country Club
Played On 07/12/2015Best Greens in Charlotte
These were by far the best greens I have played in the past 5 years. They were championship speeds, very firm, but still able to get spin and check when necessary. You have to know how to play the ball both ways. the front nine most holes shape left to right and the back most holes go right to left. The front nine is the prototypical Donald Ross elevated small greens. The back nine is Tom Jackson so it is more traditional. I look forward to going back soon.
Tanglewood Golf Club - Championship Course
Played On 7/14/2013Bunker heaven
The layout of the course was excellent. Played from the blue tee's and was able to use every club in the bag, which is what I like in a course. The fairways and rough were in good condition, but the greens were alittle fuzzy, alittle mowing would of made them perfect.
The most bunkers i've seen on a course and they were well placed, which made it a fun challenge. I'd definately recommend this if you are looking for a challenge.
Red Bridge Golf and Country Club
Played On 5/30/2013If you miss the fairway or miss on the wrong side of the fairway you are dead
I played this course on 5/30/2013 and unfortunately the greens were sliced. This didnt affect my review but I wish Red Bridge and GolfNow had better communication to announce the course maintenance.
Pace of play was very slow, not because of groups in front of us (there were no groups in front of us the whole time), but because if you miss the fairway or sometimes hit the fairway on the wrong side it will bounce or roll into high grass.
The fringe had thick sprigs of grass which is where the course needed the most attention.
Things I liked about the course were that there were reachable par-5's , bunkers in good shape, fun layout on some holes and the most fun thing about the course was the front 9 with three par-3's and three par-5's.
Thanks to GolfNow and a Hot Deal, my group and I were able to play this course for $18 per person.
Rock Barn Golf and Spa - Jackson Course
Played On 7/23/2012All around great course
this is a perfect choice if you want to play a difficult but fair course in the Charlotte area. it requires you to layup in the right spot and there is about 4 holes where you have to leave driver in the bag. I played from the Blues (6600 yards) and there is a few holes where you can go driver wedge and then there is some where you go driver 3 iron for par fours.
The course is in perfect condition and it is beautiful to look at with all the trees, creeks and hilly terrain.
It is a must play in the Charlotte area.
