Steamboat Golf Club
Played On 09/01/2019overall good course
About half of the holes play is affected by a stream which runs across. This is universally a "lost ball hazard", in that you will never find your ball if you errantly roll into the deep grass. That considered, rest of the course is above average. Great BLTs at theclubhouse restaurant.

Originally I thought I'd play this course because I figured it would be a very relaxing day on a fairly short course. The left side of the front nine proved this was not going to be as I had envisioned. There is no retrieving your ball if you have a habit of pulling as a RH hitter. Three of the front nine greens should have been posted as unusable. The back nine, especially the holes in the old rock quarry, make the trip here worth whatever is wrong with the front nine. I'd definitely return here and work on the part that I can correct.

To be from TX and play in the Coastal range is pure indulgence. Yes, we stay green in TX longer than I was used to in New England, but the variety of vegetation for late November was astonishing! All the course was well-maintained, except for the cart paths many have criticized. If the management insisted you stay on the cart paths, there might be reason to feel abused, but they welcomed travel on the fairways and rough to avoid the cart paths. I would hazard a guess the greens were overseeded perhaps 4 to 6 weeks ago, but the greens were predictable and consistent from one to another, and within the green itself. Fairways were excellent and roughs well-kept. A totally fun experience. Well worth the $55 we paid to play. We were allowed on the course about a half-hour early, kept a fairly quick pace, and the foursome ahead of us invited us to play through when we reached a par-3 tee after two had teed off. They even cheered me when I birdied it! Great experience with good people. I will definitely play this course again, should I ever be in the area.
Heritage Park Golf Course
Played On 9/21/2013Challenging course for 20+ handicappers
Played as a twosome and happened to be paired with two locals who knew the course fairly well. There had been some two inches of rain within the last 48 hours, but the weather was probably the best golf weather I have ever played. Fans had done a great job on the greens, and the traps were probably 15% unplayable. Obviously the crews had been really busy for the previous days. Two holes required shots over water requiring a carry of close to 175 yards to stay dry. On each hole, 50% of our foursome had the "opportunity" to check out the drop area. Those two holes aside, one of the best courses I have played, with variety and imagination in design being evident. Would definitely play again.
