Shoal Creek Golf Course
Played On 05/07/2016What Happened Here?
In the past I could count on this being a beautiful, well maintained course. Something has gone horribly wrong. Fairways did not appear to have been fertilized in forever, greens were OK at best, but collars around many of them were toast. Not up to the standards they once set for themselves.
Stonebridge Golf Club of New Orleans - Harvey 9 Course
Played On 01/19/2016They could have said something
If you only have time for a quick 9, this is the place to go. Nice layout that winds through a very nice neighborhood. Layout is good, but flat, with no elevation changes.
There is a foot golf course superimposed on this tract. No one told me about that. As I stood on the first (19th) I saw three flags in front of me. Which one am I shooting at? (Hint - shoot at the bright red flag).
For some reason hole 23 was shortened from a nice dog leg that looked like it would have been a fun hole to a very short 140 - 160 yard par 3. The foot golf hole was right in the middle of the former fairway. It would not have interfered with playing the hole at its original length. No idea what the thinking was on that one, other than making it kid friendly, perhaps.
Another surprise is hole 27. You can't really tell what it does from the tiny layout map on the scorecard. You shoot over a fence (!), a canal and a second fence. Oh, and the canal is undergoing repairs, so there are workers and equipment between tee and green. Talk about hazards. Place your shot well on this hole. The green is snuggled right against the far fence - short and you in the canal - long and you hit the concrete cart tarmac behind the clubhouse and could end up 100 yards behind the hole.
Audubon Park Golf Course
Played On 01/18/2016Nice challenge
I was a bit dubious about paying $50 for an executive course, but it was worth it. $20 for a repeat round was a pleasant surprise.
This is a challenging layout with challenging bunkers on most of the holes. While not shooting directly over the water, it comes into play on several holes. It pays to be accurate.
The two par 5s are challenging and a lot of fun. The most difficult hole on the course is a 167 - 212 par 3. If you can't drive the green, even an accurate tee shot is in danger of rolling into the water along the right side. Trees on the left make a well placed tee shot a must on this hole.
There is a major distraction on this tract - walking/biking is permitted, so you end up with people wondering all over the place.
Pace of play is fairly quick, even when the course is crowded.
Lago Vista Golf Course
Played On 11/05/2015Good course
Wide fairways and rough that is not difficult to play from make this course enjoyable, particularly if you are not familiar with it. There are some well placed trees and bunkers that add challenges, without being so difficult that is discourages the average golfer. This is a very good course to play if you are out for a day of good fun.
The staff was great - very friendly and accommodating.

This course was underwater just four days before I played. I was impressed that the course was open and playable. The bunkers were not yet restored, so our group agreed to lift out, but otherwise, the course played well. Built around, over and through a winding creek, some fairways tend to roll the ball to the side. Knowledge of the course helps place to ball to avoid it rolling off the fairway. You can get in trouble if you hit into the trees lining the fairway, and of course the creek comes into play, but if you can hit reasonably straight, you can enjoy the round.

Painted Desert Golf Club
Played On 7/11/2013Just challenging enough to be interesting
Shot accuracy is important on this course. Just enough sand and narrow fairways to make it fun, but without making it impossible to enjoy. Recovery from missed shots was easier than many courses.
Some of the tee boxes were in rough shape. Patches of fairway appeared to be suffering. Greens were in great shape throughout the course.
Shamrock Hills Golf Course
Played On 5/18/2013Good course at a very good price
A nice layout in pretty good condition. Some new tee boxes are being added. Some temporary tee boxes were is bad shape. A few of the tee boxes were so hard it was difficult to push a tee into place. Drop areas needed to be mowed, not that I needed drops.
This course is a great value.
Thank you for the review and for recommending our course.
