TOO CROWDED

Sadly, we quit after 5 holes … it took almost 2 hours to play 5 holes. We like the course and we like to play out there but today was ridiculous. It seems to me that the course will take all golfers who come to play rather than turn any away. and this was a Tuesday afternoon!!

Always a treat to play

We love The Reserve course. It is always a treat. The views and wildlife are wonderful … no houses to mar the view. It is always well maintained. The only drawback is the wind because of its location near the Delta. We play here when we want to treat ourselves.

Wonderful layout and wildlife atmosphere but in rough shape

My husband and I love Micke Grove because the layout is interesting and we love all the wildlife and NO HOUSES around! There are bad areas around the course and the sand traps are really waste bunkers (no real sand in them) lots of bare areas in the fairways but the worst is the Ladies Tees! There are no "flat" areas so it's difficult to find a good place to place the tee / ball. They are BADLY in need of leveling!

Could be really nice with some care ... a real shame

I was hoping with all the rain we've had the course would be in better shape ... but it's still like playing in someone's cow pasture. Even driving the cart from one hole to another will rattle your fillings out. There is no such thing as a fairway ... unless you don't mind dandelions and clumps of grass and weeds along with bare spots in your fairway. It was actually hard to find the ball .. and the greens are very inconsistent and some are really in bad shape. I don't care how cheap it is to play here ... it's NOT worth it to me.

Nice!

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our round at Monterey Pines. We were a twosome behind a very slow foursome but the weather was PERFECT and we very much enjoyed playing a shorter course. Short but with plenty of challenge, at least for us. We will DEFINITELY play this course again when we are in the Monterey area!

Too Rough for a Flat-Lander

The holes were interesting enough with a lot of ups and downs as well as gullies to shoot over with a lot of carry needed. Fairways, however, were really non existent ... VERY clumpy, weedy and rough! The greens were nice although a bit slow. It was an OK experience but probably will not play there again. It was just too rough and the slopes and carries tough for us "flat landers" from the valley.

Good Value for most players.

For those who like a flat course and don't mind long yardage .. this is the course for you. Considering the drought the course was very green and the greens were very playable and rolled well. Distance is not my forte so for me the course is too long to be enjoyable. This doesn't bother most people so I think the course is very playable and a good bargain for the price.

Beautiful Location - Poor Conditions

The area is beautiful with nice views and an interesting layout, but it was just so ROUGH it wasn't enjoyable. The greens were fine but the "so called" fairways really WEREN'T ... more like mowed clumpy rough. The yardage seemed very "off". Bottom line ... it was just "too rough for us City folk". Sad, really, because the location is great and with real fairway grass it would be a really fun course. Been there ... done that ... won't do it again.

Interesting and scenic course but way too slow!!

We very much enjoyed the course design and personality. It is very scenic with no houses around to spoil the view. I was very playable but some tough holes. We wanted to play 18 holes and moved along fairly well on the front 9 but at the 10th hole we hit a wall. Where all the players came from I don't know but suddenly there were several groups ahead of us and we waited and waited on every hole. As we started around noon we were losing daylight and still waiting on every hole so we gave up and didn't finish. That will probably prevent us from coming back. There is something wrong when you move along nicely on the front 9 and then suddenly there's a jam-up on the back 9. Obviously the pro shop is allowing late afternoon players to start on the back .. in front of players already out there. Not good!

Nice Valley Course!

Having never played here, I didn't really expect much. I just assumed it would be another "boring" flat valley course. After playing I was very pleasantly surprised! Although it's very dried out in spots and a bit soggy in a few others and the tee areas could be leveled, I found the course interesting, challenging, but still very playable by an average player like me who doesn't hit the ball all that far. I enjoyed it very much and will definitely be back. The only problem we had was a very slow 2-some ahead of us so we were waiting on every hole. That was just bad luck I can't really fault the course for that.

Great Location but needs work!

I would call this "golf au naturale" ... that is to say there really are no fairways here! The greens are nice ... the tees are OK ... but there really are no fairways on the course. It's really ROUGH out there and lumpy and bumpy and very dry. If someone put a lot of money into it and seeded some real fairway grass ... installed a sprinkler system ... etc. it would really be a beautiful and fun course to play! The holes were interesting but there was no such thing as a "good lie" out there. It's golf "roughing-it" style. That said, I did enjoy the round. The scenery was quite nice and there are no houses around the course which is always nice. I do hope someday someone makes a "real" golf course out of it ... it could be a real gem if they did.

Great scenery and wildlife but too many Canadian Geese.

The course and surroundings were very pretty. We saw some interesting wildlife, although there were way too many Canadian Geese! Droppings were everywhere, unfortunately. The course is "interesting" with many varied holes but for an "old lady" like me, it was too much. It wore me down trying to manage the too steep slopes on too many holes. I still recommend the course, just not for me. For other golfers I think the course would be interesting and challenging in a beautiful setting. The staff was extra nice and helpful. My husband and I were paired with two delightful young men it was a pleasure to play with.

Playable and scenic course.

I enjoyed this course very much in spite of the very strong winds we had. I very much enjoy courses with varied terrain and that are aesthetically pleasing, as this one is. For being in "the valley" this course is definitely not flat and boring as too many of the valley courses are. I think it's the best course in the area ... public or private !!

Beautiful Views but Too Hard to play!

My first thought after playing several holes ... who on earth thought this was a good place to put a golf course!?? Although the scenery is wonderful and the course was maintained well ... the playability was just a bit ridiculous. Some of the landing areas were TINY ... that is if you could even figure out WHERE they were. Too many blind shots and hazards you just didn't know were there until after your shot. It is definitely not a course for us "older" folks. The course is just TOO STEEP to be playable in my opinion and there are too many ravines and hidden hazards. Also lots of walking up and down very steep slopes ... and that's with a cart. It's beautiful and maybe you should go ONCE just to experience it. I'm afraid we won't be coming back though. Looking at the course ratings on the score card ... you've got to be kidding. The course is rated way easier than it should be.

Beautiful Views!

This course is a feast for the eyes ... the setting is absolutely beautiful. The course, however, is very challenging .. at least for my husband and I who are older and not long ball hitters. As a female who doesn't hit the ball far, I really appreciated the Red Tees. I would not have been able to reach many of the fairways otherwise. My husband did have difficulty reaching some of the fairways from the white tees but the two younger men we played with had no problem. There were some strange holes out there but all in all a very enjoyable experience. Definitely NOT BORING!!

I call it the "billy-goat" course

After many years of playing in the flat valley .... this course was very challenging but FUN. I loved all the elevated tees ... and loved the yardage of the par 3s especially. If not familiar with the course .. it has a lot of blind shots. The pro shop was kind enough to give us a course yardage book. Our pace of play was "perfect" until we got to the 10th hole and suddenly found a man and his (beginner) son on the tee in front of us. They were NOT in front of us on the front nine ... so we thought this was quite rude not to mention it slowed our pace of play noticeably as we now had to wait on each tee. We did quit after hole #12, partly because my husband wasn't feeling well, but mostly because we were now having to wait for a twosome who had obviously cut in front of us. Other than that I thought it was fun to play but quite strenuous with the severe slopes on the course.Even with all the up and down holes I felt it was still very playable, even for a high handicapper like me.
