Copper Hills Golf Club - Jungle Course
Played On 04/26/2017Coming back?
This used to be one of my favorite courses in North Oakland. Stunningly beautiful up North feel and some very challenging holes with lots of forced carries, uphill/blind tee shots, etc. (almost too many, really). But the years and economy took their toll and the course fell out of shape, especially the bunkers. Fairways and greens were decent yesterday and show promise for the year. And I was told they were repairing/replacing all of the bunkers - which would be a very good start. If they continue to make improvements we may get that great course back again.
Stony Creek Golf Course
Played On 09/04/2014Really nice course in Northtern Burbs
A challenging, pretty course in very good condition, you will definitely enjoy your round here. They need to use marshals more liberally to nudge the slow groups, glad I went during the week.
Cherry Creek Golf Club
Played On 08/07/2014Pretty nice
I enjoyed Cherry Creek - a great layout and some very challenging holes. Course condition was excellent, although very low lying and wet most everywhere. Greens were very slow. The sister course of Shepherds Hollow, it isn't nearly as nice but doesn't cost nearly as much to play. Worth it if you can get a discounted rate (as I did). Finally, the one bunker I was in was hard-packed mud - not good!
Blackheath Golf Club
Played On 05/08/2014wide open
This is an open, fairly easy course to play. A decent value can often be found. Unfortunately, the course took on 6" of rain the night before we played (in the morning) and lots of it was under water, including one hole where they put in a temporary green. That's the nature of the course though with lots of lowlands. If it's been rainy, this place will be really wet. But in the heat of summer it will be baked because there are so few trees on the course. To call it a links course might help describe the layout, but it's not really a great links course as I know them.
WestWynd Golf Course
Played On 8/28/2013difficult and greens are in horrible condition
Westwynd is the public, sister course of the private, much better, Wyndgate. It has some great and very picturesque holes and some that are more gimmicky. More than half of the greens are now in horrible condition. Fortunately, I was able to get this course on Golf Now for $20, including cart - which was a real bargain, regardless of the greens. A real challenge for any golfer, with high slope ratings from every tee box. Worth it if you don't have to pay too much to play it.
Heritage Glen Golf Club
Played On 8/5/2013Nice course in nice surroundings. .
A very pretty course that throws a lot at you. Greens are fast and true. Not an upscale experience but certainly a very good golf course.
