About

I never really found golf until my early 30's but now I am addicted. I play at least twice a week and enjoy playing many different courses . I was a member at Olds Golf Club and a member of the Alberta Golf Tour before moving to Victoria in 201. I now play mostly at Cordova Bay but enjoy most all the local courses. I don't mind playing with people I don't know as I just enjoy getting on the course and having fun. Always up for trying a new course or returning to an old favorite. My game is always getting better and work to get better through practise and play. My favourite thing to do is golf while on vacation or travel. But my main objective is always enjoy the game. Hit me up on Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram (@bogeygolfer77) or Twitter (@bogeygoilfer77) to see my adventures.

A hidden Gem

This course gives you a nice breezt=y walk near the water without actually seeing it. A great design where the challnge remains high despite wide fairways and big greens. A couple design flaws hurt it overall appeal but for the most part this is one of the better plays in Victoria.
Always a good time to play don't pass this up.

A local favorite

This is definitely a players friendly course. There is some difficulty especially when most of the par 3s are set up for people that can hit 180 yards+. I feel they could be a little better in accomodating hitters that do not have length but overall give you a chance to play with some very fun holes.
This is not an easy course to walk with some very uphill runs. It will tire you out by the end.
There is a good mix of length and playability and features some really cool views. There is some very nice surrounding nature and you really don't ever feel crowded here.
It does play on the harder side but there are plenty of shots out there for all skill levels.
Nice pro shop and staff and a nice little restaraunt for a beer after the round. Practice facility is good with two levels but access is a little tight.
This is a a very central location and is very public and player friendly. well worth a visit during a trip to Victoria.

Too tough for the average golfer

One thing I get when talking to people about this course is they always shoot much higher than at many other courses.
This track was designed for the best of the best. Long par threes that don't give easy acess to the greens. Smaller landing areas and a need for strong target golf. Some greens roll uncontollably to one side. Very difficult approach shots make this a track that really does not play well to my game.
I think they have some well designed features and 17th hole provides one of the coolest features on a course I have played but overall I never find my rounds enjoyable here. Frustration is always there because you could have some amazing shots that would end up just as bad as if you did not hit it well.
I feel this course would be beter souited to some design changes that make it a little more player friendly to high handicappers.
It is one of the better local practise facilities and the staff is great. Pro shop could be a little better but a wonder restraunt and patio make up for it.
It is just a course I really don't go out of my way to play because I know it will hurt my handicap. Great that you can walk to course but watch out for a few long journeys between holes with a couple being quite up hill.
Defintely worth a try but be prepared for a difficult set up.

A very nice track off the beaten path

This is a great course for the avaerage player. A very moderate layout with some tough holes. Not a lot of forgiveness but you never feel frustrated with the design. The cost and enjoyment this course provides makes it well worth the visit if you are looking for something outside of Victoria.

A bucket list experience

This is one of the most scenic and well designed courses I have ever played. Each hole presents a fun challenge and gives you a different exoperience. There are no shortage of tough shots but you never feel as though you dislike playing the course. Easpecially when you reach the back nine where you find one of the best views in all of golf and some really fun holes. A must play for any golf lover just be prepared to think out your shots.
The atmosphere arounbd the course is amazing and you will be treated like golf royalty. Can be a bit expensive but it is worth every penny once you take in the whole experience.

A great roll through the valley

This is a remarkable layout that both challenges and rewards. Despite not being as scenic as it's sister course it provides a serenity that gives a different feel. There are some amazingly designed holes that give you some really fun looks and shots. The elevation changes make for some cool tee shots. The greens are what really make this course challenging. If you don't have the putter dialed in you better hope to have thopse approach shots on point. Long puts can really give you fits in the fast rolling summer.
Just an overall well built track that gives you a true championship experience and really compliments the mountain course. Always fun to play.

A fun time out

This place is for the people that don't like the traditional feel of some golf courses. If you like wearing jeans and have a goiod time with friends that don't worry about score this is the place for you. A very nice and enjoyable place to be I just wouldn't expect to compare it to a normal golf course.
Very affordable and presents an excellent way to get out and practice without breaking the bank.

Links with a championship feel

I played Speargrass as part of the Alberta Golf Tour and felt the track had some great features but I was not overly impressed. I am a big links style course fan but this course did not have a big links type feel. The course had an interesting layout as there was some very well placed bunkers and water hazards. It provided some great views especially on the last three holes but the difficulty changes so drastically that high handicap golfers will be left scratching their heads at the end of the round. A lot of the course is relatively flat but then you run into a lot of forced carries and really small landing spots on the back nine. This is a great course to try especially with the amazing views on the final three holes. But if you are looking to find a true links course you will find that there is more of championship type feel that can eat you up if you are not accurate as the round progresses. All in all a fun track to play.

A hidden gem in the gateway to the Rockies

A great layout that makes the round fun but challenges you to make some good shots. With five sets of tees and great course management this track has everything for every golfer. It has some elevation changes but is not too hard to walk if you feel like the exercise.
The design of the course suits many types of golfers and keeps things honest with little subtleties like bunker placement and fairway width.
Nestled in the middle of forest there can be bugs but also quiet. It is a serene setting that gives golfers zen feeling during your round.
The drive west is well worth the trip.

Lots to see and fun golf

The elevation changes alone make this course a must play. With the changes comes some of the best views of the mountains on any course. Right off the first tee you have a huge downhill dogleg that sets the tone for an enjoyable round.
A lot of fun shots while also mixing in some very difficult recovery shots if your game is not on. It makes you think while not making you play shots you don't have. Mid-summer this course is at its best with really quick greens that make short putts stomach tumblers.
A great place to visit and play once. Steep price may keep thrifty golfers away but to hit a ball into some of those backdrops is at least worth trying once.

Great mountain golf

A very nice track with a challenge, yet fun to play. Once you get past the amazing views you have to make a few shots into or from elevation. Greens play nice and are in excellent shape. Not too tough for high handicappers yet enough challenge to keep you honest. It is a great mountain course that rewards great shots with an amazing backdrop.

Great early season conditions

I got my first round of the year in at my home course and it was great. The greens are in amazing condition and the course is coming along nicely. There is one hole that is currently under construction but will be up soon and once that take place this is will be one of the better tracks in Central Alberta. Looking forward to a lot of good rounds here this season.

Weather couldn't hold me down

I was visiting Windsor during a different event and really wanted to try this course as it is listed as one of the best public courses in Canada. The weather was horrible but I thought I would give it a go anyways.
Everything was great except for one big issue, the pro shop staff were very unfriendly. There were some great factors to this course but the lack of care or interest of the pro shop staff made my experience not great. It was like I was putting them out for wanting to go out with terrible weather. No towel to go with my cart in rainy conditions and very little in the care of my experience. The Very poor attitude towards me turned me off. I have been treated way better in other similar situations at top courses in my travels. Really didn't feel like I was playing at a top course in Canada.
The big thing that made it up for me was the great server and amazing food in the restaurant before the round.
The course itself was a fun track and could see that in the middle of the summer in prime conditions, this would be a must play for any golfer during a visit to Windsor. Great bunker placements with other strategically placed hazards can give this course a little bit of teeth. The greens were very nice and had just enough undulation to make easy putts difficult. In better weather I could see them running really fast.
It is too bad my experience wasn't the best but it still won't steer me away from recommending this golf course to the high and low handicappers. In great conditions I can see why it a top rated course.
My one big issue about the design is a lack of shade. This a true to style links course with little or no trees. On hot days it could be a tough one to walk.

always a fun track

The course is one of my local favorites. It has challenge but will not be too hard for the higher handicapped player. The course is in excellent condition and is an easy walk. Your putter has to be working as some of the greens can be very tricky. Online booking are also easy and there are great deals to be had. Always enjoy this course whether as a single or as a group.

A great course for the price

The course is one of the best values in all of Alberta. It is immaculately maintained and the greens are always in amazing shape.
This is a very easy walking course and is pretty flat. What makes this course difficult are its large fast greens. They can can very tough on some days and the pin placement are key to getting a low score if you know the slopes. It is also amazing value for a membership or a single round, probably the best bang for your buck in between Calgary and Edmonton.
The course has also spent over a year changing out some holes and doing other renovations which have made big improvements to the layout.
There are couple issues with being slow some days and some staff and members can be unaccomodating but overall I have enjoyed most of my rounds played here. The management have worked hard over the last couple years the rectify the problems and they will only get better in the future.
This course is great for all types of golfers and is a great round for walking or on a cart. There are also five sets of tee boxes so there is plenty of variety for any handicap. Worth the try once or an amazing value if you are looking for an affordable membership.

A Central Alberta gem

There are some really great qualities about the course but there are a couple issues as well.
The course is well designed and a lot of fun to play. It is a good walk, which I usually do because the course does not allow carts off the path. That does create a problem as there are a lot of spots on the course where it is a long walk from your cart to the ball if you are riding. The walk is not easy but doable if you are used to walking.
It is always in amazing condition and the greens are usually faster that many other courses. The conditions are always some of the best around as well.
The service is not the best as getting a snack at the turn is always an issue and the people that take your order are seldom friendly. It has never been a big issue for me but have heard many negative comments about the service.
But overall the course is one of the best Central Alberta has to offer. Amazing facilities and course, and can be a pretty good deal for those that like to play on better courses.

Great walk along Bow River

This course was a surprise in how fun it was and well the course played.
An easily walkable course that is just minutes from downtown Calgary offers a great facility that caters to all types of golfers. The fairways were a bit tight and there was trouble if you are not hitting the ball straight. It had some great strategically placed hazards that made for a lot of fun but would also punish you if you made a mistake.
It was a very scenic trek as the river runs along some of the holes and you could get nice views of the downtown area. It is expensive for being pretty flat and not a lot of difference to some other courses that were similar but cheaper. But would recommend this course to anybody that wants an enjoyable round with friends or work colleagues.

Great place to golf

This is one of the best facilities Central Alberta has to offer. A top notch championship course that has amazing conditions. The greens are challenging but very fun to play. This is always a favourite of mine as it is very walkable and rewards good shots. The course is expensive but is worth the price to play at least once.
Couple holes have strategically placed trees to ramp up the difficulty but overall the course is a must play for the avid golfer.

A course everyone must try

Tobiano is my favorite course I have played to date. From the views to the immaculate conditions there is little to dislike about this course. It was one of the best conditions I have ever played, the fairways felt like greens at most courses. Expect a challenge though as there are a few gaps to hit over, some small fairways and a lot of going up hill and downhill. None of those detract from the experience as the scenery takes you away with wonderful views from every hole. The par 3's are imaginative and very fun to play. This is a must play for any avid golfer.

Great views with a great design

I loved this course for everything it had. I was only able to play one of the 18 hole courses but it showed me enough that I am hooked. A great course weaved through Bear Mountain provides a high degree of difficulty. That doesn't detract from the fun as it is designed well enough that despite the challenge each hole has a unique element that never always catches your eye and never frustrates you. The little par 3 island green is a fun little hole but the the real draw on this course the stretch of holes on the back nine that give you an amazing overhead view of Victoria and the harbour right out to the ocean. Also get great views of the mountains in Washington State. A must play for any golfer that want to enjoy a day that provides everything you could want from a golf course.
