Lake Cumberland Golf Club
Played On 06/10/2015Great Course!
Happened to be in town for a project nearby, snatched up the Hot Deal on a weekday and played a quick 18 holes, solo.
The course pro working the counter was very friendly and helpful. The staff on the course were very courteous. There was a lot of mowing going on, but all the staff would shut down their mowers and park off to the side as soon as they saw me coming, and then continue on after I had played through. Course was very challenging and had some really beautiful holes. The course has lots of sand traps, all were well maintained and easy to play out of.
I played during the week, around lunch time. There were a lot of seniors on the course, the course pro at the counter directed me to start on 10 and then come back to play the front...it was definitely the right call to make as I think all the seniors headed in after playing only the front 9.
I definitely recommend this course to anyone in the area!
The Pines at Lindsey Wilson
Played On 06/09/2015Rough Around the Edges
I was in town for a project and happened to bring along my clubs. I found this place through the Golf Now app and I have to say I was a little disappointed for what I paid to play here. It was VERY rough around the edges, and the greens weren't the best - they were at least soft so you could stick an approach shot, but putting was a bit tough as the long grass and aeration scars made them hard to read.
The most troubling thing was the lack of a defined cart path. A few times I found myself lost and had to pull out the scorecard to interpret where the next tee box was.
Overall the course was pretty easy; the biggest challenge were the pine trees lining the fairway and encompassing some greens. If you had a stray shot into the pines, you had to be really good with a "punch" shot to recover.
Scoring a Hot Deal would be the only way I would play again here, but even then I would try to get in elsewhere. I played this course on Tuesday and then Lake Cumberland GC on Wednesday; there is no comparison between the two. Drive the extra 15 minutes to Lake Cumberland GC if you have the time, you'll be much happier with the quality and there isn't much difference in price.
All the city courses in Louisville KY would rank higher than this place, and they are all much cheaper too. Maybe this place was better several years ago and the money just isn't there anymore to maintain it?
