Kittyhawk Golf Center - Hawk Course
Played On 08/21/2016Greens were unusually slow.
We had a lot of rain in the last few days, The bunkers and greens neither seemed to drain well, and the greens seemed liked they had not been cut for a few days.
Woodside/Valley View at Weatherwax Golf Course
Played On 08/22/2014Great Experience for a Rainy Day
The course was in very good shape if you take into consideration a huge storm system just passed through the area. With the exception of one green that looked like an artillery range on Valley View, the course was in great shape.
My threesome tee'd off around five and walked off the course around 8:30 just as it got dark. We played Valley View to Highlands.
The staff was pleasant and the cost was probably lower than I would expect for a course in this good of shape at the end of summer.
Turtle Creek Golf Course
Played On 08/16/2014Need Rangers
Overall, the golf course was beautifully maintained. My three main concerns are the pace of play, having to wait for someone to turn in a cart in order to start to play, and no drink carts.
The pace of play was probably due to the lack of rangers to manage the course traffic. The pace of play was excruciatingly slow. The front took 2:45 minutes and the back took a little over 3 hours.
As far as the course goes, I would have preferred the greens to be a little bit faster, but that may be caused by sprinkling on and off early in the round. On the frontside, some of the tees and greens are very tight and verge on the side of being unsafe. The course felt a little short to me, but when I paired up I moved to the white tees to play with the group. All in all, this private club turned public, was a nice place to play for the price (approx. 18 at 2pm on a Saturday). Hopefully when I return, the pace of play is better.
