Lockwood Folly Country Club
Played On 05/19/2023Maybe my favorite
I know it’s out of the way, but worth it. The course is in great shape. The greens are quick, but fair. I’m most impressed by the water hazards. There are many, and they come into play to challenge you. The design of the course lets a long hitter or high handicapper clear the water with a good shot or get a penalty, as it should be. Take your time and enjoy this beautifully designed course.

Don’t pass up a chance to play this exceptional golf course. For the first time golfer or low handicap player, this course will challenge you and reward you. The hazards, in particular the water hazards, are real, not just nice looking scenery. The greens are in great condition. I played during a light rain, so can’t comment on the sand traps. Come when you have time to enjoy an exceptional day of golf. It’s worth the greens fee.

Fairways are not in good shape. Lots of potential to be a good course. Greens in good shape.

A fun course to play, with many challenging hole. Too expensive.
Palmilla Beach Golf Club
Played On 01/15/2021Overpriced
Don’t try using your gps golf watch on this beautiful golf course. Since it’s renovation following Hurricane Harvey, the course has been reduced from 18 holes to “9 + 3”. The information hasn’t updated. The 2341 yard (longest tees) 9 hole course is challenging, but overpriced. The course has a great practice area and restaurant/bar. The staff do a great job and the course is in great condition. I think that it is too expensive, but it is worth playing at least once.
Discovery Bay Golf Club
Played On 11/14/2020A (golf) tale of two courses
Besides the pleasant and professional pro shop clerk, the well maintained golf course and a well stocked pro shop, my round today at Discovery Bay was like playing two entirely different “nines”. You may like one better than the other, or as I ‘discovered’, the contrast was really fun. The front nine is open and fairly typical in design, with doglegs, sand traps and some water to respect. The back nine consists of carved, narrow fairways in the woods. Hitting your drive straight will help you survive. Don’t miss out on this gem when golfing in the Port Townsend area.
Lick Creek Golf Course
Played On 06/04/2020Great looking golf course
Lick Creek is in excellent shape. The staff was very helpful and friendly. I had not played here for a couple of years, but I will be back soon.
The greens are fast, and so there are quite a few divots, though everyone was trying their best to repair ball marks.
I rated it moderate because of several very challenging holes. Otherwise, it was a beautiful walk in the woods.
Woodlawn Country Club
Played On 05/28/2020Course conditions - ideal
I live 25 minutes from Woodlawn, so I have played it on one other occasion. The laid-back, friendly staff at the pro shop is the best thing about this gem of a golf course. It is a 9-hole course, but be sure to allow enough time to play 18 holes. Play the short tees, then the long tees. It's almost like a different back nine. The groundskeepers do an excellent job, and the course is perfect for the beginner or moderate golfer. The greens, fairways and rough are in excellent condition. Carts are available, as is a limited menu of food and drinks. The day that I played, I had no wait to get on, or while playing. Everyone on the course was friendly and helpful. Make time to play Woolawn Country Club in Farmer City this year.
Wolf Creek Golf Club
Played On 05/06/2020Wolf Creek is ready for you.
A pleasant surprise awaited me today at Wolf Creek GC in Pontiac, IL. Following a series of rainy days, including another 0.5 inches last night, I expected the course to be much wetter than it was. If I stayed on the cart path (I was walking), I had no problems staying relatively dry. The tee boxes, fairways and greens are in excellent shape. If your ball strays into the rough (as mine has a tendency to do), you won't find it half of the time. Thanks for a great golf experience at this beautiful course.
North Shore Country Club
Played On 03/07/2020Past it’s prime
This magnificent setting deserves a golf course as good. One almost every hole, the view was magnificent. The design of the course is challenging, but fair. An intermediate golfer should have no trouble from the front tees.
However, the condition of the course is poor. Old, broken cement slabs of the golf cart path constantly jar the riders. Uneven tee boxes force errors to occur. A severe lack of signage leaves the first-time player wondering where to go.
Sadly, this magnificent golf course has seen better days.
El Paso Golf Club
Played On 12/09/2019Course still in great shape
...for December, that is. The tee boxes, fairways and greens were in great shape. The sand traps were soggy, but playable. This is a really fun golf course, for those who have never played it. The front nine and back nine are VERY different. Each is fun in its own right. The staff in the restaurant are friendly and helpful.
Oregon City Golf Club
Played On 09/27/2018Don't miss playing this golf course.
Just as a reviewer noted, this beautiful golf course with immaculate greens does have "firm" pitch and chip shots. If you hit the fairways, you'll love this golf course. If you stray into the rough, especially around the greens, you will find pitching and chipping a challenge.
Rose City Golf Course
Played On 09/14/2018First time at Rose City GC
I recommend playing 18 holes at this challenging old course. Tee boxes, fairways and greens were all in excellent condition. Challenges were narrow fairways for the long hitters, not as narrow for shorter hitters, making it challenging for all levels of play. Back (blue) tee boxes were not just 400 yards longer white tees, but more challenging locations as well. I played the white tees. Stay out of the rough, or bring extra balls! Plan your second shot carefully, approaching the green properly will pay dividends. I scored 8 over my handicapped par score, but would do things differently next round. You’re going to love Rose City GC.
Red Tail Run Golf Club
Played On 11/14/2017A beautiful walk spoiled.
Add this golf course to your bucket list. Open fairways, but challenging finishes. Beautiful countryside course. The front nine are “dry”, but the back nine has a few water hazards. The sand traps and fairway bunkers will challenge you. The course is in great condition, even in Mid- November. The fast food bar, pro shop, restrooms and staff were great. The golf carts, tee box equipment, etc. was well maintained. For a care-free golfing experience on a moderately challenging course, put Red Tail on you list.
