West Monmouthshire Golf Club

Great condition for January, greens were pretty good, course set up to allow you to play and not lose a ball. Very foggy the further up you went up.

Quite enjoyed this course. It looked like I’d made a mistake walking from the car park as the first hole didn’t look great off the tee (7 iron off the tee to a shared fairway with the 9th - the hole was only 220 is yards and dog legged left). Once you get past the first the course really comes alive. Great fairways and lovely greens. Tee boxes need to be sorted as a lot of them were quite bare and uneven (the blocks were spread across the entire box instead of being sectioned off to allow one half to grow while the other is in use). Not much over a challenge if you can hit it straight as it is not a long course.

Big fan of the course. Greens in good condition, a really good challenge for all. When wind is up there is only one
hole made difficult for shorter hitters (3rd). Will definitely be playing here again.

Greens were in great nick, only 5 holes up hill but they were quite steep. Got stuck behind a group of seniors on the 5th hole and there was never a hint of being let through - they were not playing behind anyone themselves. Tees needed to be cut. Still a nice course and would definitely play there again.

Lovely setting, lovely course. Plenty of challenge on long and short holes. Bunkers could do with a bit more sand I felt. Would definitely recommend and will be playing again in the near future.
The Celtic Manor Resort - The Twenty Ten Course
Played On 04/07/2021A little underwhelming
In the summer I think this would be a very scenic course. It was obvious to see that the greens had just been hollow tined so hopefully later on in the year they would be in better condition and the ball will roll a better.
I felt the course was a little bland, I didn’t come off the course and think ‘I’ve just played a Ryder cup course’’. However this could have been down to the time of year.

Greens were soft and very slow, often having lots of lumpy mud all over them making putting and chipping difficult. Had to clear a line from ball to hole on every green.
Bunkers were all full of grass and did not look like they should be in use. I hit into one fairway bunker with a GUR sign, however I didn’t see any others.
Rough was long and overall messy. Very difficult to find the ball if hit into the rough. I lost 2 balls alone from simply hitting into the rough with a clear line in the shot.
Tees have a number of divots, which is too be expected. In quite OK condition considering the amount of people playing this summer.
Fairways were mostly short and easy to hit from.
Overall, it was a nice parkland course to play but the condition of the greens and rough made the course a frustrating one to play. Were the issues to be fixed by the green keepers, this could be a lovely course to play.
