Windy in DHS

Booked a hot deal over a week in advance. Did not know the weather forecast that far out. Turned out to be a high wind day. I know GN won’t refund, so had to play or be out the $. I like the layout of the course. It’s a challenge for sure. I’m amazed that the maintenance staff is able to keep the course up with all of the wind. Do you really expect sand to stay in the traps? Greens were rolling well but unable to tell how true they are due to the wind. Fairways and tee boxes were decent. Played in under three hours! Will definitely be back but won’t book beyond two days out.

Much Improved

The course conditions have improved dramatically in the last few years. The staff are friendly and helpful. You can tell they have a sense of pride when you interact with them. The course is in great shape. I would recommend using one less club into most greens as they are difficult to hold. On the plus side, didn’t see any unrepaired ball marks as it’s almost impossible to make one. Not sure why they start you off on 10 during the summer as 11 is probably the most difficult hole on the course.

Lush

The grounds crews due an amazing job keeping all areas of the course in lush condition. Many courses in the valley must be envious of how they are able to maintain their superb quality during the summer months. Pro shop and cart attendant staff are very friendly and accommodating.

Great Day for Golf

A beautiful day for golf in sunny La Quinta. The course is in excellent condition. Nothing really to find fault with. The biggest downer was that the driving range was closed for an event. There was a stage set up on the range. Could only utilize the practice putting green. I guess it’s always good to call the course directly before heading out. A group two groups ahead of us slowed things down. We teed off about 1230 and didn’t finish till after 5. Marshals and beverage cart were around on the front nine but absent on the back. This seems to be the norm everywhere since the virus even though golf is booming. Some reviewers may not like the layout of the course but it is a favorite of mine. Challenging enough for a 17 handicaper. Hole 17 is about as tough a par 4 as you can find with plenty of risk to challenge yourself.

Pace of Play

Played as a foursome with a foursome ahead of us and they never slowed us down. The course just recently opened after being closed for seeding of the winter grass. The greens are still slow and grass height too high. This is understandable as the grass needs to mature and be resilient for the season. Just be aware the turf is a little long. Should be in much better shape in a few weeks. The sand in the bunkers is excellent but they need more rakes. Not sure why golfers don't use proper etiquette and rake the bunkers and repair their ball marks on the greens.

Great layout and greens

The course has a challenging layout and awesome bent grass greens. It was a cool and windy day but after a couple holes you descend in elevation and are protected from the winds. The rough is thick and you can easily lose your ball, so keep an eye on it. The cart barn personnel said they hadn’t mowed it recently due to the overseeding. The bunkers have compacted soil and rocks, so avoid. Some of the tee boxes aren’t very level and have depressions in them. The fairways are in great shape, overall. First time playing and very impressed with the layout and greens. Will definitely be back! We were a foursome and had singles and twosomes behind us. We let some groups play through and were trying not to hold anyone up, but balls going into the rough slowed us down.

Enjoyable round

Not a typical desert course. Big trees line the fairways, so don’t stray too far from the fairway. Some tee shots require a fade while others call for a draw. The water holes require you to hit your target. Not a long hitters course but overall a challenging layout. Some of the greens are stressing out in areas, typical for this time of year, but they are very receptive. Fairways and tee boxes are lush. The restaurant is closed for the summer. Pace of play for a twosome was three hours. We had a threesome behind us that kept up very well and we never caught up with the single in front of us.

3 hours 20 minutes

The pace of play is awesome here. We were a threesome and played in 3 hours 20 minutes! We had groups in front of us and behind us, so we weren’t the only ones out here. Fairways and tee boxes are in great shape. The greens have just been punched but they were playable. The staff is very friendly. When you park your car, they come out with a cart and put your clubs on it and you’re ready to go! The restaurant was open after the round, so we could enjoy our company some more. Unfortunately, many courses close their restaurant too early this time of year and you have to go elsewhere, so they are losing revenue. Very enjoyable round, overall!

Golfer-friendly golf course

Indian Springs is a very convenient golfing experience. It starts with the parking lot because you're right there close to the cart barn, practice green and pro shop. The gentleman in the pro shop , I don't recall his name, was very welcoming and had us on our way in no time. As a twosome, we completed our round in about three hours. He directed us to the tenth tee to start, telling us we shouldn't run into anyone, but gave us the option of starting on number one. I can't say enough how that reflects on the entire golfing experience and makes you want to come back. There are plenty of courses to play in the Coachella Valley, so why play a course that's stuffy.

The course is in great shape. Everything is fairly green and lush. The greens are relatively smooth and fast for this time of year and will hold a good shot into them.

The layout of the course won't beat you up as most fairways are wide. Water hazards are all located on the right side of the greens on holes with water, so the layout does not favor a slice. A little more variety on holes with water hazards would make for a more rounded design. The average golfer will feel good about their game after playing here.

Indian Springs provides a very good golfing experience, for the majority of golfers, that will make you want to make this your home course.

Great value

You could pay more, and play some high-profile course, which a lot of Palm Springs golfers are doing. This course is challenging enough for most average golfers, so why pay more and beat yourself up? Pace of play is great. Greens are in good shape. The restaurant staff are super friendly! The only real downside is that you have to start on the back nine, as of now, for the summer. The front nine has two warmup par 4s but the back nine starts with a par 5 and then a long par 4, over 400 yards with a difficult tee shot (#1 handicap). These two holes can really ruin your round.
