San Ignacio Golf Club
Played On 11/12/2021Needed a marshall
Took nearly 5 hrs to play. I have played it in 2.5 to 3.5 hrs many, many , times and i am 83 yrs of age. Need Marshall when crowded to keep people moving. I group constantly looking for balls and hitting 8 to 10 times on rach hole can make it slow gor everyone following. Still my favorite GV course.

This could be a decent course with a small
Investment. Sand traps are useless as they are. I refuse to play out of them, many need drainage as they are full of wet mud. They are full of stones that will ruin a club face. And there is just a dusting of fine sand over compacted hard pan. Just need a good 2 to 3 inches if filtered sand. Lots of bare areas in fairways which will get worse during remaining hot AZ summer months but it would not take much to make this course enjoyable. Just being neglected. Very nice people.

Looks like management of this course no longer cares about its condition. Dead and bare areas every hole. Greens were plugged, sand traps not playable with mud and rocks and little sand, and course ranger rude and unfriendly. A group of 10-12 of us have played there every snow bird season but when they return this October I will encourage we go elsewhere.

Very very very slow play. 15 min per hole or more. Needs Marshall.
Thank you for reviewing the course. Let us first start by apologizing for the pace of play during your round. This is by no means the standard we strive to achieve. We are going to escalate your feedback to our team so we can make improvements before your next game. We hope to see you again soon.

Played On 10/27/2019Fairway grass still too long
Torn shoulder tendons, terrible headache, pulled calf tendon, and back pain did not hold up well in 25 - 30’mphbwindsvtiday. Had to quit after 20th hole. When fairways fill in and grass is mowed shorter will begin to play again . Sand in traps (like all traps in GreenVakey) are beer tired overdo the only drag a thin top layer and rave hard pan underside clubs just bounce off.

Greens current unputtable as they have peen punched and sanded. Will be back in 2 to 3 weeks. I like playing this course when it has recovered fr reseeding except for the traps which are always in bad shape... thin sand has loads of rocks that will damage your clubs. Some rocks are up to 2” in size. Don’t know where they get their sand but would guess from the adjacent dry river bed as it has not been sifted. Otherwise a decent course with very nice people and good food in restaurant. Just needs a little loving care.

Played On 06/23/2019Getting in poor condition
My favorite course in GV until June 1. Fairways and tee boxes drying up, greens not consistent in speed or conditions, and they will just not put more sand in the traps. They drag the trap sand but under the thin top sand it is rock hard. Beautiful layout and fun course until Summer. In great shape for the snowbirds but not kept up for us full timers that support it year round.
Hi, we are sorry you feel as though San Ignacio has slighted the year round golfers but I am writing to you to say nothing can be farther from the truth. We care for our golfers equally and apologize you felt that way. 3 years ago there was no Bermuda grass and a broken down water delivery system. Since we took over, there's 90% coverage of grass and we've repaired the fairway bunkers. We will continue to make improvements to the course. During the winter, we use rye grass which is now at the stage of dying off since we over-seeded with Bermuda grass. The brown grass that you are seeing is not Bermuda, but rather the rye that will soon be overtaken by the Bermuda grass. We hope this provides a better understanding on how we maintain San Ignacio. Please consider returning in the future.

Love this course but it is a shame they
apparently do not water the fairways after the snow birds have departed. Turning bare quickly and still no sand in the sand boxes to play in. At the moment Torres Blancas is in better condition. They just don’t seem to care as much for us full timers to share a little water to keep her green. Too bad. A fun course otherwise.

Would have given higher rating if all sand traps had sufficient sand like a few. Can’t know what to expect when they are not consistent. But I’m an 81 yr old with a bad back and a severely bad shoulder and shot a 78 so I’m content.

Played On 05/05/2019Favorite Green Valley Course
Course was in pretty ;nice shape. i like this course better than all others in the area. As other courses however, there needs to be sand in the bunkers. Looks like there is sand but there is hard pan under a thin crusty layer on top and the flop wedge and sand wedges just bounce off it. i will not hit out of these traps as I have a very bad shoulder and when I hit the hard pan it sends a jolt of pain to my shoulder and down my arm. I have see others pick up and lay out of the sand as well. Seems to be the norm in the green valley courses.
A note about our bunkers...we are currently in a project to improve them which includes replacing the sand. Hope this helps!
Hi, thank you for the four stars. We appreciate your feedback about the bunkers. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We hope to see you again soon.

Played On 07/17/2018Nice layout
Since moving to Green Valleyi I have played this course 3 times in my effort to play all the nearby courses (7 of them).
San Ignacio is one of my favorites so far. In pretty darn good condition for this time of year. Greens were in good shape albeit extremely slow, maybe a 4 or 5 on the stint. I am 80 yrs of age and my goal each round is to shoot 80 or better and this is a course I can sometimes accomplish the task. Has a nice variation of holes, some from tee boxes high on the hill to the valley below, some with water, and sand traps do have sand in them. I enjoy playing the course. The food at the bar is pretty good as well.

Played On 06/12/2018Good round
They had punched the greens making putting difficult and there was a heavy breeze but for an 80 yr old, shooting 76 again felt really good. When greens get back I will be playing it again. Just moved to this area and there are many golf courses to try out.

Played On 02/16/2018Gentle course
Course is in pretty good shape and the greens and bunkers are fair (they have recently replaced the sand in the bunkers). I just turned 80 and have a bad back and a shoulder that needs reverse replacement and shot a 79 so I am pleased with the round and the course. It is flat, a little water that really need not come into play. They do sometimes put out 5somes when it is not necessary and that ruins a round for me, but otherwise for winter play it is a good deal.

Played On 02/09/2018OK for this time of year
I do not mind playing this course in the winter months (few options with all the snowbirds this year), as long as they do not put me in fivesomes. fivesomes is not recognized in the game of golf and should never be permitted on a course. It runs the pace of play and the rhythm for anyone that can reasonable play the game. I was stuck with a afivesome 3 out of the previous 4 rounds but with a threesome this time and was much more enjoyable.

Played On 01/30/2018Course needs management
Yesterday was the 2nd time in a row I had to tee off in a fivesome and 3 out of 5 times I have had to do so. Golf has never been considered as a fivesome, ever. The first time of the last 5 I quit after a few holes as two of the guys were looking for their ball on every shot and it took 3 hrs to play the first nine. Another time I quit after just 4 holes. It is no fun to play a fivesome and most of the time, like yesterday, absolutely I no need for it as it was not crowded. They tee someone off the front nine AND the back nine every 7 to 8 minutes and there is no group that plays out there that doesn't average 12 min per hole so they are guaranteeing a long back up. I have been there when there were 4 foursomes on a single par three. I had to transfer my bag and accessories into 4 different carts before I found one that would run. The time before last I drove up to the course and counted 12 carts across the street lined up for the back nine. I asked the golf shop attendant what in the world was going on. He said he did not know and had not yet called the next tee time for that hole. What it apparently been csused by was snowbirds crowding in to help insure they could get 18 holes in before dark. Someone needs to get in control of what is going on out there. Get less greedy and not book fivesome and tee 4 foursomes off the front and back every 7 or 8 minutes. It is no fun to play in these conditions and the course could be enjoyable if they had some reasonable management on the course.

Played On 01/12/2018Too slow of play
Course was in pretty good shape, but it took short of 3 hours to play nine holes so I quit after nine. No one on the course to keep play at 4.5 hrs for 18 holes. I've booked another round for Tue but sorry I did. Need a Marshall out there keeping the play going and they tee off foursomes too close together (every 7 or 8 minutes and it takes far more time than that to play a hole for most people.
Some management would make this a nice day of golf.
