Port at Harborside International Golf Center
Played On 08/03/2018Great job by greens keeper
The greens are in outstanding shape this season and I’m really happy that they trimmed the fescue back. It’s still punishing, but not a guaranteed lost ball.

I love this course, but it seems like they're growing the long grass to the point where it might as well be an automatic lost ball hazard. I wish they would trim that back a little bit. The course is starting to get a little gimmicky with this stuff. You can miss a lot of fairways or greens by 5 yards and be lost in that stuff. Totally unnecessary and is cheapening the experience, but otherwise a top notch place.

Really great layout. The bunkering and hole shapes require you to hit a lot of different tee shots if you want to shorten some holes by cutting corners. Everything was in great condition. I've recently played Pebble Beach, Whistling Straits, and Olympia Fields, and these course conditions rivaled all of those. The GPS on the cart was a huge plus, especially with a lot of the bunker corner cutting that bigger hitters can get at on this course. I wish more courses that aren't just straight forward rec layouts would do have these systems in the carts (e.g. Lost Marsh).
Ravisloe Country Club
Played On 06/18/2017Fun course. Great practice facilities.
First off, I love the wedge area. Aside from Harborside, there aren't any courses that I've seen in the area that allow you to take wedges out to 80 yards on a practice green. Great course layout. If the course was a little longer and closer to the city, I'd be there every weekend. Nothing to be done there though. I love the bunkering and the old classy feel to the place. Really cool experience for people used to the standard rec or resort courses.
Lost Marsh Golf Course
Played On 06/17/2017Not enough course info for the weird layout
There are way too many blind hazards and random patches of long grass that just serve to be "gotchas." Lots of water and hazards are fair, but you can't leave players guessing on virtually half of their full shots over 150 yards.
If you hit the ball anywhere close to 250+, this course has a dumb layout with a design that tries to trick you rather than providing fair challenges. If they want to keep the layout, they really need to put GPS in the cart that points these things out. I had a rangefinder and still had no idea what was out there.
Cool course if you're looking for a novelty or don't hit the ball very far. Otherwise, it's the classic case of overzealous greenskeepers trying to be cute.
