Carlton Oaks Lodge & Country Club
Played On 02/13/2020They say it's because it's winter!
I have played this course many times over the years and it has been worse. But given that the winter has been great to play golf in San Diego, this course is not in good shape. Greens okay, but putts don't always roll true. Fairways not in great shape. Bunkers not well kept. Pin placements sometimes ridiculous. No water in ball washers, and tee boxes are sometimes a challenge to find level and good ground. In the past, this course has looked like it cuts corners, and yesterday it didn't disappoint. They don't try hard to make it a good golf experience. I will only play when there's a great $ deal!
Boulder Oaks Golf Club
Played On 11/12/2018Still a poor course
Tried this course again... not any better. Course conditions fair to poor with lousy greens and patchy fairways. This is a glorified executive course with little challenge, other than oddities and poorly placed bunkers. Don't waste your time until they decide hope to manage their course and it's layout. No matter what the price!!
Boulder Oaks Golf Club
Played On 03/30/2018Good novelty course, some poor conditions
Going out at 6:45am as a single was nice, and gave me time to look at the course. Some interesting holes, 4 horrible punched greens, and yardages that were inaccurate. I played the blues and should have played black for more challenge. The difficulty lay in the lack of knowledge of some of the holes, and poor direction on the course. The par 4's were almost drivable, which allowed me a good chance to score, and the yardages on the tees did not seem accurate, having overshot some greens, so I relied on my own evaluation. For $23 can't complain since I hit well, but it's only a novelty course if you want to score. The non-punched greens rolled true and were nicely fast though.
North at Admiral Baker Golf Course
Played On 06/17/2016Admiral Baker - North - Great play for the $
Played on a Friday afternoon for $29. Course was in very good shape with a legitimate rough. Holes on this course are unique and challenging in different ways each hole. Overall, this course is good for 9 to 30 handicaps, due to situational challenges and relatively wide fairway on many holes. This a good course to measure improvements in your game.
Nice length on the course and for the par 3's. More than some courses have par 3's that are all 100-120 yd. pitch shots. All the par three on this course are 150+ yds., one at 220. Fairways were in good shape and greens were a little dry and fast.
You really can't beat a deal like this for an afternoon on a good course with challenge.
Carlton Oaks Lodge & Country Club
Played On 04/13/2016Tough course for a good price, when discounted
Played this course at $20 - riding - discounted, and I typically play it only when significantly discounted. The course is quite difficult if you are not a straight hitter, and the "rough" often loses balls. Weather was good, but I have played it when it is hot - it is miserable.
The Fairways are in good shape, a little dry and thin in spots. Course watering has greened it up a bit, and some mud in spots. Bunkers are hard on the fairways, but a little better near greens.
The Greens are good overall, hard to hold the ball sometimes, but slow when putting uphill.
THIS COURSE ALWAYS SEEMS TO ADD 10 STROKES TO MY GAME. No different yesterday, must be in my head.
Salt Creek Golf Club
Played On 12/21/2015Balls run into trouble... green like miniature golf.
While the idea of Salt Creek is generally good, the course maintenance and design leaves good shots in bad spots. The courses design doesn't allow the average golfer a chance to score well. If the course was dry I don't know if any balls would stay on the fairway... or the greens. Some balls held the green, but rolled and rolled when putted or bounced on.
Will not recommend ever again.
