Silver Lakes Golf & Country Club
Played On 07/26/2018Solid Test
Great layout. Fair and challenging. You need to drive the ball well, long and accurate from the tips to have a chance at a decent approach to small greens. Course runs along the Holland river it is lush, green and in very good shape. Tree's line many fairways. If you hit left/right often this course will destroy you. There are some real good birdie 4's and 5's. There are some very challenging 4's from the tips. Course is more than fairly priced. Play it and you will not be disappointed.
Black Diamond Golf Club
Played On 07/19/2018Top tier layout
Fabulous golf course, heard about it for years finally booked a round on golfnow.com. The layout is a mix between, parkland, linx, forest and stadium type holes. I played off the tips and some serious carry and accuracy is needed in the forest and on some long par 4's #2 is a beast. There are some great birdie holes mixed in you can play well but you need to earn it with good tee shot's here. It is a bit of a drive (hour-ish) from Markham area but the cost ($45) w cart and playing a REAL course makes up for it. I will play this again. Highly recommend.
Caledon Country Club
Played On 07/19/2018Nothing special
Older style course layout that is fair but also boring. Very short from the back tee's. Quite a bit of elevation changes and some extreme dog leg's. Some good forest holes. Rough was thick you have to hit fairways to have a chance to score well. Tee boxes- in good shape, fairways good shape, greens great shape and rolling at a moderate, comfortable speed. Overall one time playing it was enough for me.
Woodington Lake Golf Club - Legacy Course
Played On 07/18/2018Legacy vs Legends
Played the Legacy 2 days after playing the Legends. Fell in love with this facility. Both courses are top notch. The Legacy is making a bid to host the Canadian Open in a couple years. The layout is a stadium style. The cart paths are Walkways for the gallery. Played the Green Tee's (6,800 yards) it plays short. Mixed in some holes from the tips (7,600) yards a combination tee would be ideal. Fairways are big and there is not much trouble. You can score really well here. The Legacy is much easier than the Legends. The greens are true but sluggish! They need to be sped up and are clearly healthy enough to handle it. Play both of these courses they are outstanding.
Royal Ontario Golf Club
Played On 07/17/2018Tournament Layout
Superb golf course! Back Tee's play longer than the yardage. You must hit fairways here or you have no chance of playing well. All Par 3's are challenging. Awesome layout! Par 4's offer some birdie opportunities and a good mix of short target tee shot's and some require a 280-300 yard drive from the tips. Course conditions superb! Greens are comfortable speed and consistent. Got a $60 w cart hotdeal on golfnow. The course is worth $100. Highly recommended!
Great feedback, thanks!
Woodington Lake Golf Club - Legend Course
Played On 07/15/2018Absolutely Amazing Layout
This course is one of the best I have ever played. It is very difficult from the back tee's it is 7,100 yards but plays longer there are fair (not ridiculous) elevation changes but you need to carry off the tee far (250 yds minimum). Tee boxes are perfect, fairways perfect greens perfect but sluggish in speed. The layout of the Legends is the best by FAR in the GTA. Play this course. $60 w cart + tax is an unreal price for the quality of this course. You will enjoy.
Hornby Glen Golf Course
Played On 07/14/2018Boring and overpriced
Course is short, flat and boring. It was over $60 w cart and no where near worth it. I play a lot of golf and this course has no character. The back 9 is a bit better than the front. Overall very flat, open and back and forth. You can score really well here got it to -2 at one point but overall it is not a fun track. There are waaaay better courses on golfnow for $60.
Indian Wells Golf Club
Played On 07/14/2018This course is so short. 6,200 yards from the tips you hit a full driver once or twice. The layout is nice, the holes are not boring at all it is just too short. Nice views along the Escarpment. Tee boxes- good shape, fairways - great considering all the heat, greens are sluggish but roll true. There are better options in the price range on golfnow. Took forever to finish 18 and was warned from someone that this course is known for slow play. However this course would be good if it was at least 500 yards longer.
Hockley Valley Resort
Played On 07/04/2018Ski Hill more than golf course
The layout of this course is absolutely horrendous. Starting from the first hole there is a massive tree overhanging the front of the back tee box. You cannot aim anywhere. The fairways are tiny and the greens even smaller. You hit good shots that end up in horrible spots. It is a ski hill + make shift golf course. Some ridiculous elevation changes that provide nice views over the valley. Shot well in the 70's
Shawneeki Golf Club
Played On 06/27/2018Boring course way better options on golfnow for the price
Layout is that of a low tier course...fairways are squeezed in tight. A few back tee boxes are blocked off by overgrown tree's- unplayable on a couple tee shots as it literally not possible to have the fairway as a target. Landing spots when a driver is required are like 7 yards wide (due to the lack of room to allow for neighbouring holes). The course is boring, tee boxes are beat up, fairways are OK, green are below expectations. There are much better courses to play on golfnow around the same price.
Royal Ashburn Golf Club
Played On 06/19/2018A true tournament layout
This course used to be a qualifying site to obtain your Canadian Tour Card. Fairways perfect, greens quick (not fast) but true. Back tee's are fair but not too long 7,000 yds or so. You can score well if you hit fairways, if you miss fairways you have no chance of playing well (a lot of tree lined fairways). I have played 3 times this season booking on golfnow the after 3pm pricing is a steal at this course. The starter's are awesome and will let you out early if there is room. Highly recommended! You will enjoy it.
Mill Run Golf Club - Championship Grist/Wheel Course
Played On 06/15/2018Grist Wheel are the best 9's
The original 18 hole Mill Run was fabulous. Grist wheel are essentially 16 of the original 18. The course from the back tee's is fun, fair and challenging. The price for this course on golfnow has competition from Pheasant run, Shawneeki, Cardinal and Lakeridge. This course is the best option, in my opinion. I have played all these courses many times over. This year the fairways are pure and green, rough was dry (been crazy hot). Green's are rolling true and moderate speed- not slow not fast. Play Grist and Wheel at the price offered on golfnow you can't go wrong.
St. Andrew's Valley Golf Club
Played On 06/12/2018One of thee best deals on golfnow around Toronto
Played this course 6 times since Sept 2017. The layout is fabulous, long enough with the ability to score well from the tips if you hit fairways. Considering the amount of play it gets the fairway's/tee boxes are mint. The greens roll true probably at a 9-10. Every hole is different nothing feels "make shift" . Pricing after 3pm is a steal. Starter's are awesome and will let you go early if they can. Proshop girls are friendly and always smiling.
Thanks for the comments Panthony.
Glad that you enjoyed the condition of the course and hope that you played well!
