Sand Canyon Country Club
Played On 03/27/2018Will be a gem again someday
The bones of a great course are still out there, just gonna take some time. Green's are still excellent.
Hadn't played the course in probably eight years. The fire really took a toll on the brush and smaller trees surrounding the course, so it feels much more wide open. You can actually see other holes while playing the one you're on. The challenge is still there though, balls were running through the fairway into the crap just like they used to. The large trees that made the course are still there for the most part. Only a minimal staff working to improve things, the bathrooms were being finished on the back nine of the Valley course when I was there, and they looked nice! Well worth 40 bucks, I had the place pretty much to myself on a windy Tuesday. Fill the lake on 16 and I wouldn't really have any complaints.
Angeles National Golf Club

Course in excellent condition except for tee boxes which were overseeded. Pace of play was awful. Marshall said he told the slow group multiple times to speed up, but wouldn't move them a hole ahead, because last time he did, the group complained in pro shop and received a free round. Better to give away one free round, then chase away all the groups behind who were fed up with 5.5 hour round. On a high note, the guy we got paired with aced number 12!
