Crowne Plaza San Marcos Golf Resort
Played On 08/13/2023Summer go-to!
Tee box to green conditions were solid considering it’s the middle of summer. Bunkers a little on the dry and hard side but not that bad. Friendly staff from the front desk, starter, restaurant and beverage cart. Will definitely go back again soon.
Dobson Ranch Golf Course
Played On 06/26/2022Never Disappoints
Friendly staff. Course conditions better than expected this time of year. Excellent practice facility and amenities. Tee boxes were in decent shape (some being worked on). Fairways were good. Greens were punched a few weeks back and coming back to give us good rolls. One of the hidden gems in the valley!
Las Colinas Golf Club
Played On 10/16/2021Over-seeding Season
It’s over-seeding time for most courses so keep your expectations about course conditions in check. We decided to walk since it was cart path only but clearly, many riding didn’t care about that. Greens were sanded over but again, has to be done to prep for the winter. Overall, staff were friendly. Not sure what all the fuss was about in the previous reviews. Good times overall. Will be back.
Camelback Golf Club - Padre Course
Played On 08/15/2021Relaxing Round
First time playing this course and it didn’t disappoint. We were worried that the overnight rain would make it unplayable but it really wasn’t that bad. The course sent an email early in the morning alerting us of the cart path only rule which was a nice heads up. From tee box to green, conditions were primo considering we are still in summer mode here in AZ. The rains have definitely helped enhance summer conditions. All staff from the clubhouse to the first tee to the beverage cart to the cart barn we’re friendly. Will definitely add this track to our rotation!
Eagle Mountain Golf Club
Played On 06/14/2020Solid course but that marshal...
Our 4-some overall enjoyed this challenging layout with nice views of the valley and surrounding terrain. At the turn, we were 15 minutes AHEAD of our projected time and going into the 12th, we were still well ahead of our projected pace. We even said how nice it was that no group was behind us since we feed off and the group ahead was moving pretty good as well. After the 13th, we picked up snake and drinks from the cart girl and made our way to the 14th where the marshal was waiting. After one of our guys hit his driver, the marshal said something like “pick up the pace” passive-aggressively as he drove away. We all looked at each other in disbelief and one of our guys told him “sir, we’re actually on pace and actually just bought snacks and drinks”. We were thinking he’d say “enjoy the rest of your round” but instead got poked. There was no group behind pushing us! We tried to get past this and finished our round, each of us thinking to ourselves how unprofessional the marshal was. I don’t know if he was just having a bad day. We all have bad days. Don’t take it out on the players. One of our guys went in after the round to share what happened but the dudes behind the cash register dismissed him like he’s some schmuck. It had been 8 years since I last played here and probably will be another 8 next time I play. We get more respect from the local munis.
To the guy who responded to my review who says he’s not affiliated with the course but then later says he taught us a lesson about pace of play because we’re “ignorant”...you got to be kidding! We were 15-20 minutes ahead of pace; the group ahead was still on the tee box when we were finishing up 13 and went to buy drinks and snacks from the cart girl. When we got on the tee box, the group ahead were just getting on the green. Thanks but no thanks for the tip.
Ok so I am not affiliated with the club in ANY WAY AT ALL. When you play golf it is your job to keep up with the group in front of you. That is all that matters on a Sunday with a busy tee sheet as it has been EVERYWHERE lately. If everyone paid attention to the group behind them all day? The pace would progressively get slower and slower with each Group that falls behind if they were only concerned with groups behind them.
So I took my time to respectfully teach you and your playing partners a little lesson which is never easy to deliver with diplomacy because your ignorant. And that’s ok we are all ignorant at times.
The Ranger sounds as if his delivery was poor, but it’s not an easy job. Keep up with group in front of you. This is your pace setter.
SunRidge Canyon Golf Club
Played On 07/14/2019Solid addition to our summer roster
Enjoyed playing here for the first time. Very challenging track, especially from the gold tees. Friendly staff from the cart guy who greeted us at the parking lot, front desk guy and starter/marshal. Only hiccup was the hidden fee of $6/water bottle (x2) that wasn’t disclosed up front. We found out about the fee when we checked our receipt after we started our round. That annoyance aside, overall a solid course that’s worth returning to for a revenge round.
Ocotillo Golf Club - White/Gold
Played On 08/04/2019Missing Troon
Been playing Ocotillo for the past 10 years and I’ll have to say course conditions have noticeably declined since Michelson’s group took over ownership and operations. Fairways continue to be patchy throughout the year. Bunkers were hit and miss...some with wet but loose sand, some very compact. Greens today were at least in decent shape especially for this time of year. Props to the entire staff for their friendliness which helps offset the overall conditions. Ocotillo’s challenging layout and pristine conditions is what kept us coming back year in and year out. Hopefully, things will get better but until then....
Whirlwind Golf Club - The Devil's Claw Course
Played On 08/28/2016Midday Madness
One of my favorite tracks in the valley and just a short drive away. Course was in excellent condition considering we're in the middle of summer. Got paired up with a 3-some representing PXG. Thanks Jimmie, Randy and Spenser for bringing out the best in me. Shot a personal best front 9 and overall round. Played the tips which I've never done on this track. Pace of play was solid...finished in just under 4 hours. The $18 GolfNow special made it all the more better. Will definitely keep coming back to the Devil's Claw!
Lone Tree Golf Club
Played On 03/22/2015Solid Course
Enjoyed playing this course, my second time around. Pace of play was fair and course was in good shape. Greens in good shape. Par 3 hole 12 was fun and extra challenging with slight breeze. A little pricey for my budget, but cost paid off when I shot my best round to date!
Aguila Golf Course
Played On 06/01/2014The price is right!
Well-maintained course conditions and $26/player course fee makes this one of my go-to courses this summer. Greens were a little slow but not too bad. Fairways recently aerated but didn't really affect play. Obviously, City of Phoenix has spare water available based on the saturated fairways.
Whirlwind Golf Club - The Devil's Claw Course
Played On 12/30/2012Course was in excellent condition as always.
Our group appreciated excellent customer service! Rate for our round was errantly posted in our favor. We checked in and staff honored the rate we booked without question!
Friars/Presidio at Riverwalk Golf Club
Played On 11/11/2012Overall a decent, challenging course.
Fairways were in decent shape, as were the greens (although not as well-maintained as Balboa Municipal). Our 4-some played on 11/11/12, tee time at 6:37 am...and we were already delayed by one group. Pace of play was slow (7 min between tee times). Finished our round in just under 5 hrs.
Hello, vslaytongarcia. Thanks so much for your review. We're so glad you enjoyed your round at Las Colinas Golf Club. That's what we like to hear! We hope to see you again soon!
