I arrived at the course about 45 minutes before my tee time and checked in. Nice pro shop with a friendly staff. Hit balls on the range for about 15 minutes before smacking a few putts on the practice green. The range is good. Grass tees and a good amount of targets to fire at.

The starter was very nice. He let me know that I'd have 2-3 other players joining me, but allowed me to keep my cart as a single. The three I played with had some course knowledge, which was good, especially on the front 9, which has a handful of blind tee shots.

The course was in good shape for the beginning of September in Texas. My biggest complaint would be the cups. They look like they hadn't been changed in weeks (not days, weeks). I understand the cups aren't going to be perfect on a public course and didn't expect these to be. But most of the cups were so old that they weren't even a circle anymore. Did it ruin my round? No. But it was a little disappointing. I can honestly say I made two putts because they hadn't been changed, so it was certainly to my advantage and score – but I digress.

I read a review that the carts were old and slow. This wasn't a huge issue. I was speeding around the course like Kevin Harvick, but the carts were fine. This shouldn't be a reason to not play here.

Layout wise, it's good track. It's fairly open, but it has a good amount of water down the left side and across the front of the apron to the green, as well as hazards to keep you honest. The finishing hole is one of the best I've ever played. Water left and huge bunkers right that sit nearly 200 yards out. I was even through 17 and pushed my hybrid right off the tee on 18. I made it across the hazard, but I wasn't able to get up and down and made bogey for a 73. This, to me, was easily the hardest hole on the course and is a tremendous finishing hole. Can't imagine what this thing is like under pressure.

My final complaint (and it's very minor) came upon my exit. I went inside the clubhouse and the guy behind the counter had changed. I try to go into a course and buy a hat whenever I play somewhere new, so I intended to do the same here. He looked a little agitated that I pulled him away from the TV and kept watching after walking over to the counter as I walked around aimlessly looking for a logo hat. After about 3-4 minutes, I gave up, but thanked him just the same and wished him a good day. "Yup," was his response. Not exactly the warm feeling I was looking for after a really nice day of golf.

Oh well. Not a huge deal. Overall, this is a fun track and worth a play.

Cheers!
