Rittswood Golf Club
Played On 06/18/2017Way too expensive, poor condition, no fun
Myself and two friends were looking to try something new last weekend. Unfortunately we ended up trying out Rittswood Golf Club. We paid 38 bucks through golfnow.com, which isn't expensive for a weekend in Southwest PA. We knew from the very beginning we were in trouble. The sign for the course is fairly small and constructed out of rotten wood. Immediately, I thought "uh oh"
We checked in to the course. There was no starter or much of anything going on when we arrived. Pretty confused, considering it was Father's Day, as to why this course was so expensive but so empty and dead.
My friends proceeded to ask about alcohol and they were informed that the golf course does not sell, or allow, any alcohol on the premises. This was a big let down for my group, but we pressed on.
You will be disappointed to know that there were ZERO sand traps on all 18 holes. Let me repeat that. ZERO sand traps. The greens appeared to not have been watered since the winter. I did not see a single sprinkler head in the ground. The greens were so dry that flying any green and holding was virtually impossible.
The one thing i will say is that the greens were very small and located in challenging positions, which i enjoyed. However, flying a green from 150 out with a sky shot and not holding is pretty frustrating when it happens every....single....time.
Oh and hole 18 was supposed to be a long par 4 but they were working on the tee boxes so they changed it to a short par 3....ummmm okay?
Will not be returning and will not be recommending this to anyone. If you can't find somewhere to play, avoid this spot. Make your way to a municipal course and save the money
Our weed free grass bunkers are every bit as challenging as sand-traps. With the over abundance of rain this season we have had to address an issue of a drainage problem on one of our fairways. It was clearly mentioned on a sign at the front counter and at the tee box itself. The temporary tee that we have built for this hole has been maintained as well as the other tees. We are sorry for the inconvenience to our golfers and with drier weather have reopened #18 fairway. Although the township we are located in forbids the sale of alcohol we do allow golfers to bring their own cans of beer. Sorry you didn't enjoy your round.
