The Ditch

The staff was friendly, Warmed up off worn mats with yellow range balls. The course was a wiry Bermuda. Difficult to chip. Easy to hit full irons. If you can't control hitting your shots to the right, you will struggle with this course as there is a deep wash area bordering the right side of most holes. Balls going there will be extremely hard to find or play. The fellows I played with struggled mightly with that. My miss is left so it wasn't much of a problem for me and I played the entire round with one ball. I think they lost 2-4 balls each. The course was ok to good shape, Greens were faster than they looked but held the approach shot well.
Probably not going to play there again.

Good public course great staff.

There's a lot to say here. First of all, the staff couldn't have been nicer. Everyone was very friendly and engaged well with the players. We went to the practice facility and that was pretty disappointing. You're hitting off old mats with beat up balls and if you want to hit driver you have to hit into a net. Still it allowed me to warm up but I wouldn't want to work on swing changes there. It was $5 for a bag of balls. The starter was extremely nice and very personable. We got started on time and the course was in pretty good shape. The sand traps were nothing to write home about but I was only in one all day. I was able to hit a pretty normal shot out of it, but my playing partners were having fits getting out of the sand traps. From what I could see, there was not a lot of sand in most traps. Greens were in good shape and rolled probably 10 or so on the stamp meter. So reasonably fast but not intimidating. The fairways were in okay shape. The tee boxes weren't in particularly good shape, but hey you're teeing it up anyway. The carts do not have a GPS system so you have to bring your own or a laser. The pace of play was actually pretty good. It wasn't fast, but it wasn't particularly slow to the point where you're going. Crazy waiting. Four and a half hour round. The old hickory grill room served very good food after the round and they have a nice place to sit covered outside. Incidentally, they have water igloos on the course as well as a cart girl with beverages and snacks. She was extremely friendly and we saw her about four times. There was another young lady who met us at the 18th Green and begin cleaning the clubs. She was also very sweet and very engaging. Overall a nice day on a decent course with excellent staff.

Post aeration course conditions

Played today early in the morning because it was very hot and humid. The course design was OK. The greens were receptive but there was very little differentiation between fairway and rough. Many times hitting the ball down the middle I struggled to find the ball as it nestled in deeper bermuda. There isn't any water hazard on the course but you can end up in trees or unseen sand fairly easily. Some very short par fours and some challenging par fours as well. Attendants couldn't have been nicer. Extremely friendly and helpful. The driving range mimics the course conditions with hitting off wirey Bermuda grass. Heavy post aeration sand on the green was definitely affecting putting. You will need a towel for sure to wipe sand off your ball to putt. Some of the trouble I experienced was due to a lack of experience with the course, especially with the drive. Didn't hate the course and didn't love it. Would play again under different course conditions. Overall the value was exceptional for $25 for cart and play.

Challenging course but fair.

Enjoyed my round at Stonewall. Cloudy day after heavy rain the night before. Carts were at 90 degrees. There were some definite soggy areas in a few fairways but I didn't' feel it impact play too much. This is a course you definitely need some info on where to hit your tee shot. When I had played before I had gotten some well-hit balls into trouble because I didn't understand where to aim This round I was more understanding of where to place the tee shot. I still got caught on the par 5 #18 where I hit a great tee shot and then lasered a tree to determine my layup before the lake hazard guarding the green. Struck a perfect layup shot (I hit it and didn't even watch for it to land). Got up to hit my approach and was told I went in the hazard on the fly. Sigh. Course knowledge is key. The tree I used was an inappropriate marker to use. The greens were very fast for a wet course (and I am used to speedy greens) but there is lots of slope on most of the greens and you have to guard your distance control carefully on long putts. The sand traps are coarse brown sand and were very wet so I really didn't relish being in them. I did plug under a lip on the 2nd hole and that led to a double bogey. Overall 4 stars. Challenging yet fair. Good course conditions except for the sand. Average round speed of play. Very friendly staff. Good experience.

Great enjoyable outing

I played with some friends from out of town because my home course still does not allow visitors due to pandemic concerns. The staff doesn't help with bags just yet but they knew right where our assigned carts were and directed us there. The warm-up facilities were fine and the balls were included in the green fee. We teed off on time and never really ran into anyone on the course. We made the turn and found some folks in front of us but they didn't hold us up. The course was in great shape. Speedy greens but they held very well the approach shots. There was no water on the course for drinking but the beverage cart was available. I had brought water but still appreciated the ice-cold beverages on this hot day. The snack shack was also open. No rakes in the bunker so preferred lies there. The holes were such that the balls didn't fall deep into the cup but stayed elevated for easy removal. The rough was fairly forgiving but could be long in places. Thoroughly enjoyable round and a decent pace of play. Couldn't have been better actually. The restaurant was open for terrace dining and the staff was attentive. The food was good. All in all a very positive experience. I was concerned that it might be a nightmarish long round but it wasn't an issue at all.

Decent course

I always liked Westfield as I have played there several times. Today was just a bad day for golf. Started raining and drizzled or worse, starting at the fourth hole. Struggled through and when we reached the back nine the course was very backed up. Waited and waited so finally gave up and went in after the 13th hole. Food was good at the clubhouse. Staff was friendly. The course condition was ok considering the rain but lots of blank areas in the rough around the greens. Makes it hard to get up and down. Greens putted well. There is a premium on accuracy approaching the greens.

Decent test of golf

Got off to a poor start by not paying attention to the GPS layout before teeing off. Once I learned to play informed I played better. The course offers a number of challenges. The greens are medium fast but putt true. The January conditions were such that the grass was thin but playable. Doglegs, drivable par fours, wide then tight fairways, one par four longer than the previous par five, all add to the challenge. Greens received shots well. Enjoyed the round. It challenges you. Forced carries and some heavily guarded greens. Will expose your short game. Sandtraps are the weak area. Overall four of five stars.

Good value

10 handicapper. First time playing this course. Fortunately had someone join us who had played before. The course has quite a few shot making holes that require local knowledge to successfully negotiate. Course was in decent shape with dormant grass. Putting was true and speedier than it appeared. Sand traps weren't great but sand was plentiful so you could get out easily enough. Pace of play was excellent. Never waited. No one behind waiting on us. Good value for money. Range balls not included but reasonable. Large Hot dog on Kaiser roll after round was super tasty and with a soda was only $4. Thoroughly enjoyed.
