Maderas Golf Club
Played On 12/18/2018Great course but pick the right set of tees
We played as a 3some on Tuesday, 18 December. Weather was perfect and overall it was a fun experience. The fairways and greens were in absolutely perfect condition. But, it was our first time playing and in hindsight, should not have gone from the blues. Whites/Greens would have been better. Course has several holes that require carries over ravines/gorges. Several holes have blind tee shots. But the most challenging aspects were the greens. You have to know where to land the ball on the green if you want any chance to get a par. On several holes, a bogey would have been a great score. Some of the greens were angled pretty steeply to begin with. Add some "interesting" pin placements and you are looking at 3 putts minimum. We hit a few greens only to see the ball roll back 20 yards. The greens themselves were absolutely stunning; any pro would have been impressed. We played this course using a great deal from GolfAdvisor. Great conditions and unbeatable hospitality. But, be warned, if you are playing for the first time, move up 2 sets of tees.
Steele Canyon Golf Club - Canyon/Ranch
Played On 12/17/2018Beautiful course with immaculate conditioning
Played Canyon/Ranch combo on Monday, December 17. Great course on a picture perfect day. Pace was excellent and staff unfailingly polite. The course conditions were A+. Fairways were gorgeous and greens were perfect (super quick). I would recommend this course to anyone, though it would be wise to move up a set of tees; somewhat tight at times due to the tracking through canyons. If we're back in San Diego, will definitely play again. GolfAdvisor gave us a bit of discount vs the rates offered by the course.
Longwood Golf Club - Post Oak Course
Played On 09/27/2015Pretty wet considering how dry the weather has been
We played early Sunday morning. Immediately noticed that the course was pretty wet. They either must get their water free of charge or they had massive rain that missed the rest of Houston. Ironically, we were on a tee box late in the round when the sprinkler's went off. Not the best way to use water, especially since all the forecasts had rain coming down later that day/evening.
Overall, the course was in decent shape. Greens were a bit slow. Tee boxes were basically taken from a cow pasture. Pace of play good. Paid about $60, so not too bad, but there are other courses in town that offer better conditions for that price.
