Played On 07/30/2017Played for first time in 5yrs and will be back
I first played here 5yrs ago when I started playing golf again and shot over a hundred, returned today and shot an 88 with two bad holes so something must have changed!
Course was in great condition, early in morning so due on the ground but that quickly disappeared. Fairways in excellent condition and greens were smooth and easy to putt on, compared to many courses I've played these were the easier of greens to hold the ball on from approach shots.
Longer front nine but definitely a lot of shots to be gained on the back nine especially from 10 thru 16. Saying that 17 and 18 probably the hardest finishing holes on any course that I've played this year and this was my 21st different course of 2017.
Warm up facilities to hand at club house, junior area beside the 18th fairway but nothing bigger in the way of practice facilities.
Didn't use the clubhouse as it was early on a Sunday morning and quiet so no one in for food etc, didn't bother me too much as I got our earlier than I planned.
Seriously considering this course as my home course next year, if I can afford it.
Crieff Golf Club - Ferntower Course
Played On 07/27/2017Best course I've played this year
So this was my 20th course I've played in Scotland this year and I can honestly say it's the best one yet.
I was recommended by a friend who played it years ago and as I was in the area I thought i'd give it a go. Can't complain at all, fairways in excellent condition, greens were immaculate with perfect smooth roll, even I could putt on them.
There were three down pours during my round and even that didn't take away from my enjoyment, greens held up really well and apart from being slightly slower which you'd expect after some rain you wouldn't really know it had poured down. This is testament to the green keeping staff.
Tricky middle stint for three/four holes which were long especially into a wind and for a mid-high handicapper like myself you'd struggle for par. Nice finish were you can pick up strokes though.
Didn't use the clubhouse but pro shop was good, well stocked with everything you'd need and the changing rooms were nice too. Practice facilities to hand also meaning everything in one place.
The Muir of Ord Golf Club
Played On 06/11/2017Short but challening which suited my game
First time playing here as I was in the area and really enjoyed it. First four holes are set out well to get you into your game and no need for driver, all about being straight rather than long. Driver came out later on slightly longer holes.
Was obvious it had been raining heavy in recent days as on occasions underfoot conditions were a little wet but nothing that bothered me.
Greens were really good and easy to stop the ball, pity my putting was woeful even on the practice green afterwards.
I would easy return to play again hopefully on a deal though, didn't mind paying full price as I really enjoyed the course and layout.
Kintore Golf Club
Played On 05/26/2017Would return, lovely course and facilities
First time I've played here and I really enjoyed, the sun was splitting the sky which only made it better. There was an outing ahead of me so it meant I could plod round at my own pace not bothering anyone.
Fairways excellently maintained and the greens were really nice too and I found it fairly easy to get the ball to hold on approach shots.
Views are stunning and very peaceful as well, a couple of steep climbs and up and down on three/four holes but once you're at the top it's fine.
Ate in the clubhouse before I played and the staff were really friendly and the food was nice as well.
Small practice area to loosen up with nets, practice short wedges and bunker shots and a practice putting green as well.
Peterculter Golf Club
Played On 05/12/2017Course was well maintained and fairways nice and lush if not a bit tight in places which made hitting driver difficult and you had to choose when you did. Tactical game of golf rather than overpowering the course. Most of the underfoot conditions were hard including the greens so difficult to stop the ball for a mere mortal like me.
I'd play again but not over others if they were available.
Friendly staff in the shop and clubhouse, food was nice.

I don't often give a course a bad review but after walking off thru 13 holes it didn't give me much option, given my other reviews I'm not normally a harsh critic.
- Took me 3hrs 5mins to play 13 holes and I was on my own, given it was a Saturday I expected slightly slower play but not this slow. There was at least 8 x 4-balls in front of me and a 2-ball who were just as annoyed as me. Course management and bookings were clearly ignored and the group was on an outing so had no care of pace of play.
- To add insult to injury the course is short, around 5000yards, so the slow play was even more annoying. I was a drive and mid-short iron to each green and I'm not a long hitter.
- Greens were covered in sand and hadn't been watered, looked rutted and it was difficult to keep a straight putt. This wasn't mentioned when I went to the shop before teeing off. No evidence that it was due to coring. Looked like they needed a good water and rolled.
- Had I paid full price I would have been fuming.
Overall the course layout was nice if not a little tight and tested your accuracy.
I dare say that on another day I may have enjoyed it better but given the above it spoiled my round completely.
Aboyne Golf Club
Played On 04/17/2017Would quite happily return
Probably helped by the fact that I played well but I loved this course, varied range of holes with varied lengths, some wicked dog-legs and some narrows tee-shots but even as an intermediate I still played to my handicap with a couple of big numbers on the card.
Course was in great condition and the best greens I've played on this year to date. I travelled an hour to play here and would happily return, may even play in their open.
The course was closed until 09:30am due to frost and I teed off at 09:53am but you wouldn't have known that it had been closed for that reason. Was Easter Monday and I expected the course to be busy, it was more steady but pace of play was good and members even apologized for slow play even though they weren't holding me up.
Great course and amazing scenery, three and a bit hours of peace and quiet, can't beat it.
Eyemouth Golf Club
Played On 03/29/2017Loved this course, if I wasn't visiting on holiday I'd easily return
It's not often after I play a course that I comment so much about it to my wife but I did with Eyemouth.
The scenery and views are amazing and I'd walk it everyday if I could, the course for the time of year was in excellent condition. Lots of run in the fairways even with them holding a bit of water in places. The greens were good and even if the green keepers hadn't been visibly working on the course it would have been obvious that a lot of time goes into it.
The 6th hole has to be seen and such a lovely hole to play, the 13th is the longest I've ever played but thankfully down hill.
If I play it again I won't carry my clubs as the hills on the back 9 took their toll on me but don't let it put you off.
Nairn Dunbar Golf Club
Played On 03/19/2017I played the course on the last day of using the winter tees so course was a bit shorter than normal but full greens in play. Of course meant it was cheaper and was allowed to play form the edge of the fairway without a mat.
Great course and would love to play it in the middle of the season, it was quite a calm day, did rain for around 4 holes but I can imagine when it's blustery it would be a bit of a challenge.
Thanks for your review.
It can tricky if the Scottish Summer Sun makes it hard but we have a new irrigation system which should stop this ever becoming too much of an issue now that we can control the amount water which we put on our course.
Hopefully see you again soon.
