Forest Oaks Golf Club
Played On 02/08/2018Nice greens but rest of course needs a lot of work
The people couldn't have been more friendly. Paired with another couple (H&W) who knew the layout. The greens are in 1st class shape. The fairways are at best spotty. I think there is no irrigation system except for the greens. It has been very dry in S Florida which hasn't helped this place. Some nice par 3's some not so. Didn't pay much to play so it wasn't a value issue.
The pace of play was actually quite good. There were water stations with cold water and a few bathrooms which was great. The course has potential just needs more (some) grass in the fairways. If you are a serious golfer probably not your cup of tea but for a once a weeker looking for a place to bang it around it is fine. Again the people could not have been nicer but to be honest nice only goes so far.
River Vale Country Club
Played On 12/13/2015Very warm December so played a very average course
Great warm December weekend, I and every other golfer wanted to play so place was very busy. Facility very outdated, driving range below par, starter was overworked so no time for pleasantries . Greens were very slow and bumpy but that had to do with time of year.
Layout was just ok, that won't change with warm weather. A few blind holes,, severe elevations and you really have to be aware of other golfer as the fairways are close together. You also need to be aware that the cart path to the next hole may put you in the "line of fire" from another hole.
Considering the volume of golfers the pace of play was ok. For a sizzling deal it was fine, don't think I would ever pay rack rate greens fees. It was nice to play golf in NJ in mid December .
Cascades Golf Course
Played On 07/03/2015Not for serious golfers
Played here as our normal venue was booked solid. This was the Friday before July fourth and was a legal holiday. Very crowded as to be expected. Played 18 holes and the first 9 were fine. Course is a combination of golf and foot golf, there were many flags all over the course including large holes for foot golf, smaller but still large holes for "family" golf and the normal golf flag. Course itself it very hilly. Fairways were just ok but the greens were fine but very slow. The second nine was an issue as they just keep on booking tee times without thought that many are playing twice. Waited about 1/2 hour to start second nine and the play was very slow. All the staff were quite nice but the course lacks amenities. The restroom sign on the course pointed you to a porta-john, ugh! Over priced for what it is. Quite a long ride considering the overall experience.
Apple Mountain Golf & Country Club
Played On 10/12/2013The trees were pretty
This is a very pretty place which happens to have a "golf course" situated within. Very hilly, fairways were patchy and more blind greens than you can imagine. Contrived comes to mind. Yardages were very suspect and the tee box, well a hammer would be useful in putting your tee in the ground. But on a lovely fall day with the changing colors of the trees the views were breathtaking. Paid very little for green fees so it was very well priced.
Bring some old golf balls, enjoy the views and relatively faced pace of play and don't keep score or get frustrated by the conditions. If you can do that have a lot of fun at Apple Mountain.
