Silverrock has gone downhill enforcing pace of play. Prepare for a 5 hour round

This is a well maintained course with tricky greens. Beware of several of the greens have false fronts. # 9 has a tricky drop off on the left that you cannot see from the fairway. Most of the greens look like there is more break in the putts than there actually is. Some of the downhill putts are really fast. I started alone at 11:30 and finished at 2:30. And that is only because it backed up a bit on the back 9. Good value for the money.

We were right on time to tee off at 10:52. They do have a starter on the first hole and a course Marshall to help keep the pace of play moving along. The grass driving range is great and the practice green is big and in good condition. Tee boxes, fairways, and bunkers all were in good shape. This is not a big long monster course but it is a challenge. With creeks that cross the fairways on a few holes and tricky greens this is a good test of golf.

We had a 12:24 start and we got started right on time. The course was in very good condition. They have a grass driving range and a nice green to practice short pitch and chip shots. Greens were in excellent shape and were fairly quick. Bunkers were in good shape, Unfortunately I was in too many but I did manage a sandy par on 18. It was a warm day (mid 80's) and not very busy at all. Finished the round in 3 1/2 hours. Great!

The course had plugged and sanded about half the greens 2 weeks ago and the other half about 3 weeks ago. Putting on the greens plugged 2 weeks ago was terrible. The greens plugged 3 weeks ago were better but not what I would call good. Bunker maintenance is awful. I don't think they have even been raked in a week.It is too bad the bunkers are not at least raked.I suggest calling the course to ask about the greens before booking a round at Blue Rock.

Golf Now will normally give you a heads up if the greens on the course you are playing have recently been plugged and sanded or just sanded. So when we arrived at the course I was very surprised to see the practice green so covered in sand it looked like snow. The greens at Rooster are difficult to putt in normal circumstances. With a heavy sanding the greens were impossible to putt. If I know in advance and I choose to play under these conditions thats OK. But when I'm not given a heads up in advance then that is not OK

Overall this was a very good day. Greens are fair. Quick downhill and a little slow on the flatter greens. I played from the white tees. Next time I play I will move up on the par 3's and play the silver tees. I will do the same for hole 17 which is a very long par 4 which has water all along the left side and is a dogleg left. You have to think your way around this course.
The practice range is nice but make sure you take the key out of your cart if you take your entire bag to the range. I did not and someone took my cart with my big thermos of water and a great sandwich. But the range guys were great and hunted down my missing cart and retrieved my lunch. Bravo!

I have played this course many times over several years. Do not attempt to walk this course unless you are in great shape. The course is interesting. A lot of elevation changes. Several holes offer great views. I played on 12/21/17. The high tempreture for the afternoon was about 60 with a light wind. Fairways were cut low and the ball was rolling out. Greens were very fast and there was a lot of brake on almost every putt. My only real complaint was the condition of the bunkers. Most did not have much sand and were hard as a rock. The bunkers that did have sand were not raked. Not good.

The weather the day I played was picture perfect, about 80 with just a hint of wind. I have always enjoyed this Robert Muir Graves designed course. You have to think your way around the course. Of course being right on the Pacific Ocean is a plus.
Unfortunately the greens had been recently been plugged, something I was not aware of when I booked this round. The day before I played one of the course pros told me the greens had been plugged 2 week ago and were a little bumpy. They looked and played like they were plugged 3 days ago. They were horrible. Automatic 2 putt greens.

I have wanted to play this course for a long time and I finally got to play it this August (2014). I liked the course design. The mounds the course designer put in the course creates a links like effect. Too bad they did not expand on this concept and create a real links like course. 2014 is a severe drought year for California. But lack of water is not the problem here. The problem is where the water is applied. They have created a park like effect by watering everywhere instead of concentrating on the landing areas. The greens were disappointing. Most greens had some damage and few rolled true. On the day I played hole 7 was cart path only but really it should have been totally closed or they should have put a temporary tee box in the fairway while the fairway is redone. The course did close down during the great recession. New management is now in place. The old grand clubhouse is closed and owners are trying to rent it out. The new clubhouse is very small. No real food so bring your own.

I have played this course many time over the past 25 years. The condition of the course is a mixed bag. The fairways are OK and getting better. The women's tees need to be moved up on almost every hole. The greens are pretty good but they are firm and do not hold your approach shot very well. Almost all of the greens are elevated. Allow for some roll out on these greens. The bunkers are mostly in very poor condition. Don't let the yardage fool you. It plays longer than the actual "book" yardage. However this is a good test of golf on a course that was a Monday qualifier for old PGA event at Silverado in Napa.

This was my 1st time playing Rooster Run. I played from the white tees but will play from the blues next time. The course was in very good shape. Fairways were in good condition, the rough thick but not too thick, the bunkers were fair and in good condition, and the greens were quick and challenging. Local knowledge helps on a couple of holes but otherwise it is pretty much what you see is what you get.

This was my first time playing Rooster. My normal score for 18 is in the 80's. This course is mostly flat and very walkable. However it is not boring. There are several holes that require you to think a bit on where to leave your ball for your next shot. Hole 18 is a good example. This par 5 requires 3 quality shots to get on the green. The greens had been plugged and sanded 3 weeks prior to my playing. Despite that they roled fast and remakable true. The greens are tough. Fast and lots of break on putts but they are not unfair nor are they minuture golf goofy. Fairways were in good shape. Rough was fair. Bunkers were OK. Some had water from course irrigation. Good value!

The Royal Course has been the host to many professional events. The course design is great and the staff is very friendly. The greens are fast and tricky. A lot of traps make shot making and course management a must. A great Maui golf experience.
