Desert Falls Country Club
Played On 01/26/2024Great experience!
Going back in a few days. This is a great course. Conditions are top shelf, greens and bunkers in very good shape. No dead spots anywhere that I saw. As a non-resident, there will never be great value for money anywhere, but that's the price we pay to swap snow shoes for golf shoes a few days a winter. Lol.
This place is permanently on my places to play list for future trips.
Cimarron Golf Club - Boulder Course
Played On 01/24/2024Always a great experience.
Always hit Cimarron when we come down. The layout Is nothing special, but the conditions are always very good. The staff are fantastic and very accommodating. As a tourist coming down in the winter, value for money is really very subjective. Non-residents get screwed financially but whatevs ... I think the value is pretty good here, comparative to others.
Palm Desert Country Club
Played On 12/03/2022Nice layout, needs water
Liked the course a lot, but really needs some water on the fairways. Greens are quick and roll true.

Played On 12/08/2021Really Enjoyed It
As a first time playing there, it was really enjoyable. The course was in really good shape and there wasn't much to complain about. Except ...
I was playing as a single behind a foursome that included a guy who apparently worked there as a marshal or starter or something. In any event, I caught them really early on a par 3 tee box. Instead of letting me play through, as etiquette would dictate, I was told (and I quote) "We would let you play through but then you would just be behind the group ahead of us and the group ahead of them." What? Essentially, they decided for everyone that nobody else would let me play through so why should they bother? It's not that they played slow. Far from it. But I waited. A LOT. Even after practice putting on greens to give them time to move along. I was just really annoyed that they assumed everyone else on the course were as big of Jenks as they were about letting people play through.
I'm still going back because I liked the course and it was an otherwise enjoyable experience.
Indian Canyons Golf Resort - North Course
Played On 12/07/2018Great day on the links!
From the time I arrived at the bag drop, it was a great experience. Welcomed like they knew me and first class treatment. Got paired up with a couple of other Canadians escaping the cold. Really nice layout. Not much water, but goodly amount of bunkers. The course is in great shape, from tee to green on every hole. Bunkers have enough sand and with few exceptions, houses are set back enough to be out of play for all but the most extreme wild shots. In fact, I enjoyed it so much, I went back again the next day! Put this on your to-do list. You won't be disappointed.
Escena Golf Club
Played On 04/26/2018Fantastic Experience!
A great day from start to finish! The staff were very friendly and helpful. No driving range, but a huge 40+ yard long cage as wide as many ranges made warmup available. Good chipping and putting greens. The course is in amazing shape! The greens are great, allowing direct attack at the pin with good chances for the ball the bite and hold. This was my first time at Escena, but most definitely not my last!
Valley at Marriott's Desert Springs Resort
Played On 11/30/2017Great day of golf.
Had a great time on the Valley course. Met 3 great guys (as usually happens on the golf course). The course was in great shape with one glaring exception: the bunkers were very disappointing. Some had sufficient sand and were fine, some were like playing on concrete, no sand to speak of and no chance of getting a club under the ball. Given the consistently good conditions everywhere else, it's baffling that the bunkers are in such poor condition. That being said, had I stayed out of them .... Nonetheless, it was a great day anyway and I would play there again without hesitation.
Desert Springs Golf Club
Played On 03/07/2017Had a great day. Wasn't aware that it was a shotgun start, but it turned out to be no problem. Played with 2 nice guys and had a very nice morning. Course was in great shape, could have used a bit more sand in the bunkers, but beyond that, no complaints. Would go back again, for sure, shotgun start and all!
Maderas Golf Club
Played On 12/01/2016Great Experience!
From the time i arrived, it was a first class experience. From the guys at the bag drop to the pro shop check-in to the course conditions, this is a great place to play.
I was first out by myself, so pace of play wasn't an issue. The tee boxes were perfect. The fairways were fantastic and generous, with good bailout areas but also opportunities for long hitters to go deep. Nicely bunkered, but fair. The greens kicked my butt a little, but that was my fault. They rolled true and fast, and exactly where I hit it.
Not the easiest course, but lots of fun to play. And since I'm from Alberta and it was Dec 1, who cares? Lol!
The only reason for rating this course less than 5 stars on value is that it was $170 and golf shouldn't cost that much anywhere. Having said that, it's still $100 less than Torrey Pines and except for ocean views, I can't imagine TP offering anything better in terms of playing conditions or services. Save your bucks for a nice dinner and play here instead. You won't regret it.
Steele Canyon Golf Club - Canyon/Ranch
Played On 11/30/2016Great Experience!
First time to the San Diego area, the only course I knew about was Torrey Pines. And doesn't everyone? As much as I would like to play there, as a Canadian, $270 USD amounts to about $4,000,000 CDN (give or take a zero). So, I looked into other places. After some poking about, I picked Steel Canyon. It was a great great choice. It wasn't busy, so I ended up playing alone, which on a new course can be a little iffy. But Mr. Player has created a nice layout that allows you to see most of the holes without any blind shots. Lots of room for safe play, yet lots of opportunity to go for broke. The course is was in excellent shape and the greems rolled true. Couldn't blame missed putts on the greens. Finished 18 holes in 2 hrs 15 min. Weather was perfect, vacation day, had a great round. What more can someone ask for? Oh yeah, a carbon copy tomorrow!
