About
I like a good challenge on a course, but am not what you would call a pro by any means. I can't seem to get the hang of my driver so my 3h is the longest club in my bag at 270. Other than that, I'm totally in sync with my irons and wedges and can read distance like nobody's business. Don't have many playing partners but am always looking to join a group.

Meadowlands Golf Course
Played On 02/26/2023Excellent conditions for a great rate
I tend to look at aerial views of courses before I play, and so seeing green fairways during the winter months was a good sign. I saw this course in passing a couple years ago but never saw it on golfnow til recently. The conditions were amazing considering the price. Greens were well kept, as were the fairways. Bunkers weren't terrible either for the time I was in there. Got 3 birdies on the front 9 which in my opinion is the better 9.

I loved this course from the first time I played it a few years back, when I was spraying the ball all over the place. This course can play long, and the par 5s are unforgiving for bad risk/reward gambles. Lots of forced carries, elevation changes, and sometimes cruel pin placement on their undulated greens make shot selection and knowing your carry distance imperative. The course is always in immaculate shape, with the greens and fairways well tended to. This go around I paired with some great people and that is usually the case whenever I come out.

There are teeboxes called "perches" that are elevated and farther back than the championship tees that you have the option to tee of from. I did so once on the par 3 18th and my shot was 250 to the green. Made me pull 3w, but I got on and got par. Next time I will go the perch route more often since it's a fun way to spice up a game of golf.
Little River Golf & Resort

The course is less forgiving when you land in the rough, they leave it cut high which can bury your ball to where you can't see it and can lose it if you don't keep an eye on it. The areas around and the greens themselves definitely need some work. I played here a few years ago and sadly I don't think much has changed. There is still patchiness in the greens, and while they roll well, it is unsettling aesthetically. Hole placements on this course are not ideal, one hourglass shaped par 3 left you with a space of about 10 feet behind and in front of the pin at the middle location, and the fringe was practically first cut rough. Some memorable holes nonetheless, as well as some that make you think twice, since there are some hidden hazards to fall prey to.

If you understood that reference, then I don't need to say anything else. The course is very undulated, with rolling hills and elevation changes that make distance control very important. The fairways play about average width and the greens are approachable with the right club. Greens are firm and can hold shots so long as you come down at the right angle, as they have some zip to them. Some longer Par 3s can have you reaching for a hybrid or fairway wood, and placement of hazards on Par 5s make you second guess pulling driver. The pace was slower than I am used to, only because landing behind short ball players can have you waiting for a bit, which we did for about 15 minutes total. Definitely will play again though.

Baywood Golf Club
Played On 07/12/2018A course in need of some love
The greens are burnt up. I hate to be so blunt, but the winter came in and damaged them and little preparation for the heat finished them off. Don't bother trying to hold a proper putting line on them, get close and pick up. The fairways are in good shape for the most part and the rough is forgiving. I didn't land in any bunkers, but there are some out there, placed sparingly along fairways, and in spots around greens. Trees are only a problem if you make them one, with one tee shot needing to be needled through encroaching pines. Once they get the greens growing right, it will pick back up.
Southern Pines Golf Club
Played On 07/11/2018Tucked away
The course is tucked away near downtown Southern Pines, and despite driving past the entrance several hundred times, it wasn't until I booked to play that I knew it was there. You can't see it from the main road at all. That being said, it doesn't disappoint when it comes to the view. Being tucked away isn't always a bad thing, and in this case it works out for the best. There were no houses lining the fairways or encroaching on the greens, or generally being a distraction. Fairways were forgiving, greens held, rough was gentle, and some of the Par 4s were even drivable for the accurate long ball hitter.( I got one) I left early before I could finish my round, but would come back to play again.
Beacon Ridge Golf & Country Club
Played On 07/09/2018Its a trap
I played this course years ago and had fun. The practice facility was nice and the course was challenging but not overkill for somebody new to golf. This time was horrible. The tee boxes were fine, even the fairways were in decent shape for most of the round, but every single green was atrocious. It was down to the top layer of dirt. If I had known it was that bad, I would have played somewhere else. Not worth what was charged and definitely wont go play there again until they completely renovate the greens. It has potential, its a nice area, good layout, but the greens take away from your experience in a distracting amount.
The Bluff Golf Links
Played On 10/13/2013Great shot chances
A lot of good risk/reward shots to be had over water. A good third of the course plays over water which is something I like to have to challenge myself. The greens need some love, a scorcher of a summer left them with patches not holding seed. Messes with putting lines, but will hold an approach shot fairly well. Bunkers are spaced nicely and open front greens make for easy runs at the hole. All around a good value for the money at the very least.

Played On 9/28/2013Bang for your Buck
Im a deal hunter and this was an amazing course to play on for any price under $50. Very forgiving fairways, and big greens with just enough challenge to make you want to get it close instead of just on. Shot an 84 and have never been happier (90 avg) Absolutely recommend to anybody looking for some great fun without breaking the bank.
Serenity at its best
The surrounding area is beautiful which makes even the worst games memorable. You start with a par 5, but its manageable and doesn't get any worse from there. Some tricky par 4s lie in wait, with an over water green here and there. Makes you place your ball instead of just hit it. Definitely worth the time and money to play.
Upland Trace Golf Club
Played On 3/15/2012Come in high
I enjoyed the openness of the course, however the greens are hard to contend with unless you play the ball high and get it to crater, the greens are pretty solid and coming in low will not work. Spin doesn't take very well and once it starts getting cold you can forget about it. Other than that, the fairways are wide and hazards are relatively far in between. I'd like to see them do more with this course.
