The Gauntlet Golf Club
Played On 10/04/2023Bring your rangefinder!
As I was well aware, there are many blind shots and layups off the tee box. If you don't have a rangefinder then purchase one or you will be wrong on yardage most of the day. That is downside.
The upside is the course is in great shape and well maintained by the staff. It is short, but that is due to many dogleg throughout the layout. I look forward to going back, but not without more technology in hand. Maybe you add GPS to your golf carts? Maybe you Mark sprinkler heads?
PGA WEST Pete Dye Mountain Course
Played On 04/20/2023Third round in one week - that should tell you something.
I played the course three times in under one week. While the spring was warm the course was still in great shape. Tee boxes and fairways in perfect condition and the greens were firm, fast and fair. Just remember to club up and if you can come in high, always the best way to approach these Pete Dye greens. No matter the cost, the course is great for beginner or expert alike. The front and back nine are different feels and while you are in a desert, water is in play on plenty of holes. Go play the course when in town, you will not be disappointed.
Longest Hole/Waterfall at Meadows Farms Golf Course
Played On 10/26/2023Inexpensive and well maintained
This layout is fun and in great shape for Autumn golf. They have three nine hole layouts, plus a bonus hole for a total of 28. It is wide open, and has a fair amount of water, especially if you play the Waterfall 9 on the back side. Par 5s are short and many lower handicap players can reach the green in two, or have a short pitch to the large and mostly flat greens. I will be back and looking forward to seeing the course in the spring and summer months.
The Omni Grove Park Inn
Played On 02/20/2022Great winter golf
The course itself is a classic Donald Ross design. While it is "short," it plays long enough in the winter as you have no rollout on your drives. The overall course for mid-February was great, and I am looking to come back in a few weeks and play again once the course comes alive.
The staff is wonderful and the pace of play was well under 4 hours, and the course was not empty nor crowded.
A great value for a truly historical course and setting.
Willow Creek Golf Course
Played On 09/03/2021Nice enough layout and pace of play
I played a late-day round and the course was in a nice overall condition. Nothing overly exciting or memorable, but worth the money.
Lake Presidential Golf Club
Played On 05/16/2021Course layout challenging
A very nice layout and greens are in excellent conditions. Tee boxes in decent shape too. Fairways are another story, but that is because of lazy and uneducated golfers. Please replace your fairways divots so we all can play a better condition.
Gaylord Springs Golf Links
Played On 03/20/2021Nice course that I want to play when green
The course like all in this area are cart path only. The greens are firm and true. I will have the opportunity to play again and June and I am looking forward to my next round.
Fort Belvoir Golf Club - Gunston Course
Played On 02/24/2021Best value in NoVA
I've played here many times over the years. The new layouts are better than the old ones. For a round in the winter days after a snowfall, I was amazed at the condition. I cannot wait until the spring for things to green up and for the ball to roll. This is the best value around for certain, assuming you don't mind the extra security checks to get on base.
Fort Belvoir Golf Club - Gunston Course
Played On 08/19/2020This facility is improving - worth playing
Played the course after overnight rain and it was in great shape. Almost nobody on the golf course, so our threesome played in just over 3 hours. I will be going back again for more rounds in the months ahead.
Fort Belvoir Golf Club - Gunston Course
Played On 02/23/2020What happened?
I played Woodlawn today and the course was in rough shape considering the mild winter. The greens were absolutely horrible. The course had no water out for you to drink. The fairways were decently maintained but the bunkers were not raked at all by maintenance as the deer tracks are solid evidence of neglect. I will likely pass on this course my next time out. The cost was low, but the conditions were way down from fall 2019 and don't warrant a return.
Pohick Bay Golf Course
Played On 02/03/2020Great winter golf day
I played this course on the rare 60+ degree day in February. The course was in great condition and even the bunkers were well maintained. The greens were true and held an approach shot with ease. I played on a very busy day and still managed a 4:15 round. I would recommend playing this course, but be prepared to not pull driver on every par 4 as it is full of doglegs. Go and enjoy!
Springdale Country Club
Played On 07/13/2020First time
My buddies and I played the course for $28 each which made it an excellent value. The front and back nine have been flipped, so you have a wide open front 9 and a tight target golf course on the back. The greens roll true and they will hold your approach.
They really need to add yardage help on sprinkler heads, or put GPS in carts. The latter with layups and hazards clearly marked would allow the average golfer a better chance at scoring on the back nine.
As for off course, I will give them a pass on the temporary clubhouse as a new one is being built and is likley a nice value add once finished in 2021.
As for the staff? I can only rate a 5 stars, but would give them 10 if I could! They were very friendly and professional.
Thank you for your review! We hope to see you again sometime soon.
