Bay Hills Golf Club
Played On 08/17/2020Fix Your Ballmarks, Follow The Rules
I love Bay Hills, but it is in bad shape right now. I love the layout, and it is a course I grew up playing. It is a lot of fun, and so many different types of holes for everyone. My problem is that it is in bad shape, and it is mainly the fault of golfers. The greens look like a warzone of unfixed ball marks. I mean it is ridiculous how bad they looked. It rained the night before, and it was cart path only today. Did that stop the foursome of 4 separate carts from driving all over the fairway in front of us? No! And then people wonder why the fairway is all chewed up. C'mon people, take care of the course.
Fairway Hills Golf Club
Played On 02/17/2020An average course
Walked 9 today, but only the back 9 is open right now. The course layout, at least for the back is interesting. There is a nice mix of holes, but the course is in rough shape as we emerge from winter. Greens were generally in good condition, area around the greens was very patchy. Drainage seems to be an issue, lots of standing water, and it looked like they had been installing draining, as some spots were under repair. I enjoy the front 9 better when golf season comes around, but for $20, it was a good walking 9.
Waverly Woods Golf Course
Played On 07/03/2018One of the best courses in MD
This course is consistently one of the best public courses in Maryland. Every hole is different and you will play all the clubs you have in you bag. Beware wooded areas, and blind landing spots that will eat your ball up. The rough was pretty thick, and it is hard to find your ball if it settles down at all. Overall, I love playing this course even though I find it to be a challenge. The more you play this course, the better off you will be in understanding where to hit your ball and how to play the holes.
Thank you for your very nice review - we are so glad you enjoy playing the golf course.
Fairway Hills Golf Club
Played On 03/29/2016Poor Condition, Great Layout
I haven't played Fairway Hills in a few years, and after my last round, I won't be returning any time soon. The layout of this course is great. There are interesting holes, some challenging and some receptive to bad shots, but the quality of the course is not on par with the layout. I found the teebox, fairways and rough all below average for this time of year compared to other courses in the area. Too many bare patches.
However, my least favorite part of this course is the proximity of houses throughout the course. It is claustrophobic on some holes, even if your drive isn't too wayward, for example #16. I doubt I will be returning in the near future.
Patuxent Greens Country Club
Played On 03/25/2016An Underappreciated Gem
This course is one of my absolute favorites in the immediate vicinity. The layout is very forgiving, the holes have a nice variety and they have done an amazing job improving the course and clubhouse over the past few years.
The place can get busy, and it is best to play early or later, to avoid getting stuck behind some of the slow-moving groups that typically bog down the course from 9am-1pm. Other than that, I have no complaints of the course, and the deals are definitely worth it, especially for the weekday rate.
Do yourself a favor and get the Insider Plus Card which makes up for itself after a few rounds.
