Monroe Golf & Country Club
Played On 03/07/2020Bad winter conditions, mediocre layout
* I really didn't like the layout of this course. The fairways are too close together on most of the holes, so you end up with people on your fairway hitting back onto their own fairway. I even witnessed a near altercation between two groups, when one golfer accidentally hit another group's ball.
* The course was in pretty poor winter condition. I play a lot of winter golf, so I understand the many ways that winter golf is a different beast from summer golf - but the fairway conditions were pretty appalling. They also hadn't provided any notice that the greens were sanded and aerated. Many of the bunkers were in above average condition for the amount of rain we've had, but there were multiple greenside bunkers that were filled with water.
* The pace of play was ok, but there wasn't a starter or a ranger keeping track of the groups, which is crazy on a busy Saturday. My front 9 was very slow, but on the back 9 the groups got a bit more spaced out luckily.
I can't complain too much at $35 for a round, but I probably won't be making the trek out to Monroe to play this course again.
