Halifax Plantation
Played On 03/27/2022Sad review of a good layout
I do NOT recommend playing here. The greens are new and putt decently although predictably slow. The tees, fairways, and rough are truly awful. It is not possible to hit the ball anywhere and get a decent lie. The fairways are at best thin but are mostly dirt and weeds. The tees are mostly dirt as is the rough. Save your money for another course in good condition.
Southern Dunes Golf & Country Club
Played On 02/15/2019A bit disappointed
We haven't played here in many years but have always loved the layout. The course condition, overall, was excellent, but the greens are distressed. Apparently mold had gotten into the greens and they are being patched, top dressed, etc., but they did not putt well and definitely did not warrant the $100 per person greens fee. Unless they make a major adjustment in the rate or until the greens live up to the $100 greens fee, I would recommend playing elsewhere
The King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort
Played On 11/16/2017Always a pleasure
The course was in tip top shape. The greens were terrific and a joy to putt. The course is not overwhelmingly difficult, but there are a handful of holes that bite back (watch out for #9 in particular). The marsh holes are what make this course unique. Rick Maddox is a gracious host as usual and this course is a joy to play.
Sea Palms Golf & Tennis Resort
Played On 08/17/2017Good course/awful pace of play
We played at 8:30, hoping to get around early, and 5 hours later finished. We had 2 groups on every tee on the back 9 and no ranger. Frankly it spoiled what could have been a fun round. The course was in great shape and the fairways, tees, and greens were spectacular. We would like to play again, but dragging around like we did really left a bad feeling. Welcome to the world of "resort golf".
The King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort
Played On 08/16/2017Love this course
This is a course that can never be built again because of the marshland holes. , which are spectacular. We never miss a chance to play here and have played here numerous times and the course never fails to delight. We were advised prior to playing that the greens were aerated however it was narrow tine and did not affect play. The course was in magnificent shape and we credit the General Manager, Rick Maddox, for keeping the course in great shape. This is a must play when in the area.
New Smyrna Golf Club
Played On 02/19/2017Take the "Donald Ross" name off this one
Donald Ross did the original design which was updated and much improved by Bobby Weed while keeping the Ross feeling. The latest update removed many traps and moved the remaining ones away from the playing area and flattened out the greens. Paspallum greens are now featured and as of right now are quite good, but based on the track record of the greens keeper, it is only a matter of time. The fairways are thin and filled with weeds and really require "preferred lies" if you can find a place to play from. Not worth the morning rate....wait until after noon for the reduced rate and good luck
Savannah Country Club
Played On 10/01/2016Always a treat
I have played Wilmington Island Club several times and this is the best condition I have seen. The greens putted very nicely and held and the tees and fairways were full and well prepared. The layout is interesting and also challenging, especially the par 3's. The fairways are fair, but some might find them tight and keeping the ball in the fairway here is a must for good scoring. Visiting Savannah? I highly recommend playing here as it is a good value for the money.
Ledgemont Country Club
Played On 08/03/2016What a nice experience
We really enjoyed playing this course. It is hilly and challenging, but very playable. The tees, greens, fairways, and bunkers were in great shape. I would definitely play this course again.
Pinehills Golf Club - Jones Course
Played On 08/02/2016Good well balanced golf course
The course was in excellent shape....greens, tees, fairways, and bunkers. It is a very fair course to play with generous landing areas but protected greens. Typically of Jones courses, the greens are large, but hitting to the right area is a challenge. The course, based on which tees you select, is not overly long, but will definitely keep your interest. We would play it again
Indigo Lakes Golf Club
Played On 06/22/2016A course back from the dead
Years ago Indigo Lakes was state of the art for Daytona Beach with at one time the LPGA championship played there. But over the years of neglect and poor ownership, the course was on the brink of extinction. New owners have breathed new life in the course and brought it back. The greens were the best I have seen there in many, many years. The fairways were full and cut properly, although the tees were a bit scuffy. Course work is ongoing with continuing work on drainage and bunkers. The greens fees were a good value for the condition of the course
Dunes at Sandridge Golf Club
Played On 04/03/2016Weekend Couples outing a great success
I arranged with Bela Nagy, the Director of Golf, for 12 couples to play both courses at Sandridge over the weekend. We schedules the Lakes course on Saturday and the Dunes course for Sunday. We arrived on Saturday to find our carts arranged to the side so we could coordinate our participants on arrival (both days). The check-in was smooth and easy and we played the Lakes in less than 4 hours. The Lakes course was in excellent shape and the greens putted wonderfully. On returning Sunday for our round on the Dunes course, again, our carts were set aside and waiting for us. The Dunes course was the highlight. I can't recommend this facility enough. Bela is easy to work with and every detail went smoothly and the staff was exceptionally helpful making for a great weekend.
Trophy Lake Golf & Casting Club
Played On 08/27/2015Great golf on the Olympic Peninsula
Trophy Lake was added in place of McCormick Woods after the reviews were not encouraging. This should have been a first choice. The overall condition of the course was great and the course has challenges but is extremely playable. This course is deceptively long as it has several short, but complex holes. Set among an old growth pine forest you play the course feeling away from civilization and back to nature. Well worth the effort for this experience.
The Olympic at Gold Mountain Golf Course
Played On 08/26/2015What a course
Gold Mountain gets high praise just about everywhere and with reason. The Olympic Course is one that I could play a lot and never get tired. We arrived to the staff organizing an outing on the Cascade course and they had another outing on the Olympic Course that afternoon. A very busy course, indeed. The course conditions were amazing considering the number of outings per year. Tees, fairways, bunkers, and greens in perfect shape. The course was very playable without out being overbearing, but there were many challenging holes. A must play
White Horse Golf Club
Played On 08/25/2015Don't Miss
This course had great balance between hard and easier holes and was really fun to play. It is so nice to play golf away from civilization. The course overall was in excellent shape and was a joy to play. I recommend playing this course if you are in the area
Port Ludlow Golf Resort
Played On 08/24/2015Circling the drain
It is sad to see the slow demise of a golf course, but we were witness to one during this play. Nine of the 27 holes have been closed and maintenance on the remaining 18 is spotty at best. The fairways were moth-eaten and finding a decent lie most of the way required "creativity". The traps were compacted and virtually unplayable. The tees were mostly dirt; the greens, however, putted pretty well. This course used to be one of the premier courses around and the routing of the course really is interesting. With many of the down hill tee shots it was virtually impossible to keep the ball in the fairway since there was very little grass and the ground was rock-hard. In my golf package, this was my choice and it was a mistake.
Olympic View Golf Club
Played On 08/21/2015Revisiting an old friend
We played this course 10 some years ago and I walked away with a good feeling from it, so we decided to revisit during this stay. The course condition was a bit scruffy, probably due to the rain shortage in the area, but was very playable. The greens were in great shape. The pace of play was not so great, but we dealt with it. The routing is tricky but interesting, so I would say the course is "strategic". There are numerous layup holes where the landing areas are microscopic (watch out for the 12th hole). Love the setting of the green on 17 with the waterfall behind. Although not the best conditioned course we played, would play it again
Bear Mountain Ranch
Played On 08/21/2015This course is a beast
We played the "Mountain Course" for the additional challenge and got all we bargained for. Plenty of elevation changes and some spectacular views (see the par 3 - 14th hole). This is a hard course with numerous blind shots. The off course views are a bit rough and it certainly is not a scenic as other courses be played (Chateau Whistler). The course was in excellent shape and the greens putted very well. If I am in the area, I will play it again.
I think you meant to comment on Canadian Bear Mountain in BC. This is a different course.
Whistler Golf Club
Played On 08/20/2015Very intetesting Palmer design
Unfortunately we only had time for 9-holes, but were able to ride the back nine to get a feel. This is one of the more fun Palmer designs. It is a very pretty course with plenty of water and challenge. The elevation changes are not too dramatic, but used to great effect. Lots of forest around and a good amount of water. Only wish we could have played the back 9 instead of ride it. I would recommend this course.
Nicklaus North Golf Course
Played On 08/19/2015A great contrast to Chateau Whistler
It is interesting to find so much flat land in the mountains and this is such a contrast from Chateau Whistler. Typical of Nicklaus golf courses, it was in great condition and he puts a premium on making the correct shot in order to score. The fairway widths were fair and the green sizes were mostly generous. The greens putted magnificently. There are some wonderful golf courses in the Whistler vicinity and this is one of them.
Fairmont Chateau Whistler Golf Club
Played On 08/19/2015Mountain Golf
Chateau Whistler offers everything you could expect in mountain golf. Steep Hills, deep valleys, streams, fairways lined with old growth forests. The views from this course almost drowned out the beauty of the course. The greens were fast and putted beautifully and the fairways and tees were in excellent shape. The yardage is deceptive as this course definitely plays longer than its yardage. I highly recommend playing here.
We are so happy to hear that you have noticed improvement in our course! Thank you for your review. Come back and play again with us soon!
