Pronghorn Club - Jack Nicklaus Signature Course
Played On 07/19/2020The course won...
Played as part of a buddy trip. Played golds. Stayed at resort, paid $139. Due to COVID, not fore-caddie--would have been helpful. Many blind tee shots and approaches to greens. On #8, blind tee shot over rise--all four of my group hit their lines, expected to be on fairway & in play--all 4 in the water hazard on R!!! Unfair! Some very hard, blind approaches to greens. Especially for first time walkers, the fore-caddie and a yardage book is a MUST! All that said, the course was in great shape and had some truly wonderful golf holes. Felt tortured by the course in the end. Not sure I want another crack!
Brasada Canyons Golf Course
Played On 07/18/2020Breathtaking
On a buddy trip. Played the Black/Gold combos. At $209, it was a splurge, but worth it. Its a tough course, with lots of up and down. Impossible to walk, cart a must. Some challenging tee shots, but mostly fair. "Canyons" is appropriate name--many of the holes routed up or down canyons, very scenic. Very well maintained. Greens slopey and fast. A few hard forced carries, and a few blind shots onto greens. Recommend a yardage book.
Crosswater at Sunriver Resort
Played On 07/17/2020Fantastic round of golf
Played the white tees, thankful we did. Was a buddy trip, and a splurge at $250 (we were not staying at resort). Course was in GREAT shape, very well maintained, all tip top. Challenging bug fair. Would love another crack at it, but need to save up a few pennies!
Didn't really check out the food/beverage facilities due to COVID.

Played On 04/26/2020Love the Improvements on Course
Last played this over a year ago, had miserable round due to on course conditions. Buddy told me the new owner had done a huge amount of work. True! Bunkers were a big problem... now they are immaculate. Overal couse conditions excellent. It’s a challenging track, but fun. I walked...if you do, it’s a workout, lots of up and down. No clubhouse, so that side of it is pretty spare.
Maderas Golf Club
Played On 03/09/2020Slopey and challenging
Played with 3 buddies who had played the course several times--even with their help, stepped into a few snares built into the course. Assuming Johnny Miller responsible for the snares. Most of the tee shots are semi-uncomfortable to me--blind shots, small targets, sloped fairways. Sometimes all three! I was striking ball OK on this day--but still ended up in 7 hazards (!). Bring extra balls. All that said, the course is beautiful and well-maintained. Greens are very slopey, but running slow on the day I played. Still tough. I'd really like a second try at this one--learned a lot from round 1. $120 is upper end of what I like to spend, a splurge for sure.
Teal Bend Golf Club
Played On 02/08/2020Much improved, worth a try if its been a while
Love this course & layout. Especially for winter, very good conditions. Since last time I played, they have re-habbed many sand traps, really wonderful to see! Greens were super fast and in good shape.
Only gripe: 5+ hours for the round! Ineffectual marshals--not sure what they are doing out there, but they aren't keeping the pace up.
River Oaks Golf Club
Played On 08/18/2019Beautiful course, big trees, nice layout
Have been hearing about River Oaks recently, was glad I drove the 30 minutes from Sacramento. The layout is nice, somewhat challenging but fair. Some really great holes (#9--long par 4, with creek to carry on the approach, #15, blind tee par 5, dog leg left, water all along the left). Beautiful heritage live oaks all around the course. A couple of greens with significant burnt-out areas, some of the greens a bit soggy. Minor issues. Friendly staff. Look forward to playing again.
Yocha Dehe Golf Club at Cache Creek Casino Resort
Played On 10/13/2018Pricey but worth it
3rd time I played. Have always enjoyed the course. Conditions were excellent, except for 2 holes where they were doing a major sod replacement--cart path only and some bad lies on those holes. Greens were in good shape and fast. Rough was deep, and was the most challenging part of the course for me. Bunkers are soft, powdery sand--I was not used to it--should have practiced more pre-round. Driving range off mats--otherwise great practice facilities.
Dear baggrab928,
Thanks for playing! We do have some sod work going on but luckily it is to eliminate poa trivialis from our fairways. This will make the property even more special in the coming months.
Come back and check us out in January! You will be impressed as we look to always improve.
Thanks so much and have a great day.

Played On 10/06/2018Gravel pits, not sand traps
Played here a few years ago, its a great, tough layout and beautiful setting. But, the sand traps have utterly failed: most of the sand has washed out, deep puddles in the low ends, hard as concrete in some locations. They are really hazards. The greens were boggy and inconsistent on speed. Will not come back!
Auburn Valley Golf Club
Played On 07/07/2018Fast greens and beautiful layout
Played with 3 buddies, had a great time. Greens are super-fast, very tricky. Stay below the pin! Lots of elevation change and slope-y lies. Grass driving range--nice! Only complaint is a fair number of wet, marshy patches. Very scenic course. Saw a family of bobcats on #13! Got a special--for $29 this was an awesome value.
One&Only Palmilla Golf Club - The Arroyo/Mountain Golf Course
Played On 12/19/2017Pretty, but not worth it
Course layout was tough & challenging on some holes, boring on others. With club rental, $240. Don't know how it compares to other courses in area, but I had higher expectations.
Castle Oaks Golf Club
Played On 10/29/2017Just shy of excellent
I've played this course several times, and realy like it. As always, greens and fairways in great shape. Bunkers--some are clay-ey, some are good. Love the course layout, some moderately challenging holes, some wide-open, swing-for-the-fences holes. Fun. One problem: Round took 4.5 hours, could have been less than 4, easy. A very slow two-some was two groups ahead, taking their time, had at least a full hole if not two in front of them. Marshal drove by us, never checked in, and clearly never put the cattle prod into the slow group. Like I said, with just a bit of marshaling, would have been a GREAT day! Staff I interacted with fine...but if the marshals don't do their job--that's fundamentally not friendly. I don't care about smiles and jokes, just do your job! BTW, not unique to Castle Oaks...marshaling just isn't what it used to be!
The Lincoln Hills Golf Club - Orchard Course
Played On 07/30/2017Marshy...come on, its a drought!
The course layout is good, and has the potential to be a really fantastic round of golf. The grass is in horrible shape, pitted and bare or burnt in many places. Its also muddy or marshy in many places, including on fairways. I had so many horrible lies and lies which verged on casual water. Won't play here again.
Black Horse at Bayonet/Black Horse Golf Course
Played On 06/25/2017Challenging greens, beautiful setting
Weather was cool (50's/60's) and a bit foggy. Starter summed up the course perfectly: forgiving off the tees, challenging to get to the greens, challenging putting. Fortunately for my handicap, the greens were NOT super hard and fast, but very rolling and slopey. I had several fails on reading the break. Many putts with 2 breaks, some with 3. Approach shots are crucial, getting your ball to the correct zone on the green and sticking it there. Played blues, slope 135. I found it more challenging than that. Looking forward to Bayonet soon. Finished 4.5 hrs.
The Reserve at Spanos Park
Played On 11/19/2016Really nice course...wish there was a 4.5 rating!
Played on a blustery, semi-rainy day, and very few other golfers out there...so pace of play was fast. Greens were HARD, slopey and fast...very difficult to hold on approaches. Its a beautiful course with lots of water hazard. Course was in great shape, except for some of the traps: I was in one which was so thin I had to hit a pitch shot rather than a true sand shot; the only other trap I was in was in good shape.
Look forward to playing this one again!
We've received a lot of requests for half-star ratings and I agree. Hope to add soon.
Grizzly Ranch Golf Club
Played On 07/17/2016A great challenge
Played the "resort" (white) tees. At 6074 yds, long enough! Some really tough holes--12 has kicked my a** all three times I've played this one. Lots of canyon carries, some big elevation changes both up and down. Fair course, though. Rough is very tough--does not give up its dead easily. Bring lots of balls.
Whitehawk Ranch Golf Club
Played On 07/16/2016Great course, amazing practice facility
I've played the course several times, always on golf getaways with buddies. Did the replay ($115 for first 18, $55 for second), so the average cost per round = $85. Outstanding for that price! Played 3-hawk and 2-hawk. As a 16 handicapper, the 2-hawk was more fun. Challenging greens--slopey. The rough is death, and not much is marked hazard. Lots of lost balls as a result. Be prepared for that. Course is really gorgeous, plan to play it again soon.
The practice facility (range, chipping area, sand trap, putting green) is outstanding, probably the best I've ever used.
Coyote Moon Golf Course
Played On 07/15/2016Gorgeous track, fun to play
One of the most beautiful courses I've played. No houses, which makes it peaceful. Course is challenging, but pretty fair. Some blind shots. Played the whites--for a 16 handicap, that was the correct call. The challenges is not in the length, its in the doglegs and sloped lies. Greens in superb condition, and fast.
Two knocks: no driving range...it took a few holes for me to warm up. Paid $135 even with an NCGA discount...expensive in my book.
Mather Golf Course
Played On 04/10/2016Like-able course, long par 4's a challenge
The course is not challenging, other than longish par 4's. Fairways wide. When I played, greens were in good shape. Bunkers were wet and clay-ey...very challenging to hit out! I've played this course many times. Played in just over 4 hours.
Cherry Island Golf Course
Played On 08/09/2015cherry Island is OK
Played course in 4 hours. Like the course. Greens were in good shape but soft. Traps had actual sand! Lot of brown grass---no surprise given drought. A lot of forced layups off tees. For $53 a decent deal.
Thank you for coming out and taking the time to provide us with some great feedback. We will continue to work on improving the course to make your next experience better than the last.
