To make this course “more interesting, we changed up which tee we would hit from and which hole C we would use. What fun we had!
Starfire Golf Club - The Mulligan 9
Played On 03/11/2024One disappointment
We completed our round of golf at 4:30 on a Saturday and were disappointed that the bar was closed and we couldn’t have a beer. Oh well. Otherwise it was a fun day!

If this was the best of Phoenix public courses with 61,000 tee times in a year, remind me to not play any of the other courses. The course had gas golf carts and did not even include tees to play with. There were no paved golf cart paths and it was difficult to follow the ruts in the road that were full of rocks and felt like I was off roading in a 4WD. We had a Hot Deal at 2:40 and could have finished 18 holes, but we were so disgusted by the course that we quit after 9. If there are 61,000 rounds played at $50-$80/round, that’s $3M - almost $5M that comes into the course each year. Not sure what the money is being spent on, but it has not been on course improvements. We will never golf here again.

Woodhaven has wide fairways that are in great condition and work well for those golfers who haven’t golfed in awhile. The pace of play is good and the golf carts are dependable. There is not much variety in the holes and some are placed closely together, but we had a great experience on the two days we were there. There was also a good selection of women’s golf clothing snd hear, which you sometimes don’t see.
Shadow Hills Golf Club - North Par-3 Course
Played On 03/08/2022Fun par 3
This par 3 course was an enjoyable alternative to a regular 18 hole course. The course has water, but you don’t have to hit over it on every hole. There’s a beautiful island green that provides challenge and the back 9 has a few holes of longer lengths to provide opportunities for a variety of clubs. The undulating greens of many of the back 9 holes also provided interesting putting experiences.
Indian Palms Golf & Country Club - Indian/Mountain
Played On 03/06/2022Course decline
We played the course just one year ago, but there has definitely been a decline in the maintenance and upkeep. The tee boxes are just rocks scattered around and the fairways need fertilization. The biggest problem is with the golf carts. We played a 9 hole round on 3/2 and the cart barely made it through 9. When we played 18 holes on 3/6, we had to turn in our cart after 9 and the second cart did not make it through the remaining 9 and we had to quit after 6. The course has an interesting layout and some beautiful vistas, but who ever owns or manages the course is doing a disservice to the golfer, in addition to the homeowners and renters in the community. I realize it’s “cheap golf” but it’s not enjoyable because of the cart situation and we decided to never play here again.

You need to be a low handicap, straight shooting target golfer or be prepared to find your ball in numerous water hazards, unforgiving bunkers, or desert landscape. Even though we had a1:45 tee time and sunset was 6:15, we had to quit at #15 because it was so cold and windy. I would not play here again.
Shadow Hills Golf Club - North Par-3 Course
Played On 02/24/2018Lots of water!
I was not prepared for the challenge of this executive course. There is so much water to hit over and so many shrubs that ate any shots that came close that I loss more balls than I have in the total of many rounds of golf. The course is beautiful and worth playing as long as you realize that it is not just an easy par-3 and you’re prepared with a lot of extra golf balls.

Played On 02/19/2017Not enough carts
This course does not have enough golf carts for all their tee times. Even though my group purchased a bucket of balls for warm up, we did not get a cart until 2:18 for our 2:24 tee time and there was no time to warm up, so that was $10 wasted. It was a fun par 3 once we were on it, but the initial delays spoiled what could have been a good day. I won't go back.
