Wolfdancer Golf Club
Played On 06/17/2019Great golf course on amazing Texas resort property!
Wolfdancer is a top notch public golf course located just outside Bastrop, Texas. The terrain and course layout are beautiful. The course conditions: luscious rolling fairways, hill country red colored bunkers, excellent tee boxes, dramatic elevation changes, quick undulating greens and gorgeous Texas hill country scenic vistas make this course one of the best in the state. A must play...and the Hyatt Lost Pines Resort is top notch and a must visit destination as well.
Legendary Oaks Golf Course
Played On 04/20/2018Good value in rural Texas
Layout is ok with and so are greens, although they currently have a little weed problem that needs some attention. But if you don't wanna pay much for a peaceful round of golf about 35 minutes northwest of H-town then Legendary Oaks is right up your alley.
South Padre Island Golf Club - 18 Holes Course
Played On 7/03/2013Nice ocean view course in South Texas
This course has great views of the Bay and South Padre Island. The topography presents an interesting challenge given that this course is set right along the bayside of the Gulf of Mexico. The greens are in pretty good shape; however, I must say, the fairways and tee boxes have definitely been in much better condition in the past. Unfortunately, it is quite noticeable that this course has paid a severe price for the systemic drought conditions in South Texas. With that being said, however, for the price...it was a great time spent on the golf course with my young son.
Pine Crest Golf Club
Played On 4/29/2013Good layout with well-maintained smallish greens for a great price!
Pinecrest is a municipal course in North Houston that has been well-maintained over the years. The fairways are pretty generous and are well maintained. Several holes have some length and excellent dog-legs. Overall this is a good course for a great price and an overall fun golfing experience!
Houston National Golf Club
Played On 2/05/2013Challenging links style course in northwest Houston, TX
Houston National is a fine links layout course with challenging course conditions. There were several times I hit perfect drives straight down the middle 280-300 yards, and I was left to an approach shot off an uneven lie. Your ball-striking must be on from all lies at this course. Also, the greens are in pristine condition! These are some of the best greens in the Houston area for the price of play. A solid short game is also necessary to score well here. Lastly, although you will NOT find many trees or tree-lined fairways at this course, you will almost always be challenged with weather conditions (primarily wind).
If you don't mind a little sun and wind...on a links style golf course with excellently maintained greens...then Houston National is the place for you.
Los Lagos Golf Club
Played On 12/31/2012Links style course with plenty of water holes and virtually no trees. Wind is definitely a factor here and will test your shot-making skills!
Los Lagos is a fairly challenging course with excellent greens. Eventhough there are almost no trees to speak of, this links style course has plenty of water holes, but the real challenge lies with whatever the wind conditions are for that particular day.
The course is well maintained. Fairways cut tight with little rough to speak of, however, they are hard as concrete and your ball will run forever. Bunkers are pretty well kept too.
Overall, if you want to play a solid course with tough wind conditions and excellent, quick -rolling greens...then this is the course for you...and the price is not to bad either!
Cypress Lakes Golf Club
Played On 12/17/2012Challenging course with top notch greens!
If you are looking for a very well maintained, challenging course with some of the fastest greens in town, then Cypress Lakes is your answer.
The greens were slightly slower than usual, but hey, it is the middle of December...and to be honest, they were still a ton faster than any other course I have played in the last six months. Not many trees on the course, and don't go searching for any errant shots in one of their lakes...there is a reason it is called Cypress Lakes...and there are more than a few snakes in those lakes!
Overall, this is a great value and worth your time!
