Westerwood Hotel Golf Club
Played On 10/04/2016Must be dry, or must be avoided
Played here with a couple of friends. It had been dry for almost a week yet this course was still very heavy underfoot, really poor in areas. The greens had been spiked so heavily it was like playing marbles when putting. The bunkers were solid, so much so, there was about 6" of standing water in some. Genuinely had no idea at times how shots would be received by the surface which spoiled the round for us. I was looking forward to playing this course but felt the layout was quite poor. On arrival we were told buggies weren't allowed on three holes which meant we had to carry three cart bags around and one player was carrying an injury which caused further inconvenience.
The off course facilities were great with friendly staff, but that wasn't enough to make me want to return unfortunately.
Balmore Golf Club
Played On 09/13/2016A Little Gem
I first played Balmore just over a year ago, and really enjoyed the experience. A friendly welcome from the helpful staff made the pre-round experience very relaxing. There's a practice area for those, like myself, who like a warm up. The course is very well kept and the USGA greens are excellent. The course offers plenty of challenges and also some great looking holes. Some might not like the fact that the course has no Par 5s but that suits me as I'm no long hitter. My friends all love this course too so it makes for a great social occasion. If the membership was a bit cheaper, I'd have most likely joined by now, as I've played there at least a dozen times over the last year.
