Tobacco Road Golf Club
Played On 01/16/2017A Must Play
This was easily the funnest round of golf I've ever played. This is a must play if you are in the area, just because it is so out of the ordinary. Everyone say's, you're either going to really love it, or you will really hate it. There is no in between. Well, I am one of the ones that loved it. I thought the greens rolled incredibly well and even though at times the landing area from the tee looks small, it's actually quite generous. You better have some confidence and more than a few shots in the bag, because this course will demand plenty of both. I found myself on many tee boxes just going, "Wow".

I thought I recalled someone telling me these greens were just put in, but not sure if that is correct. I thought they were incredibly hard. It seemed like nothing stuck on these greens and you had to account for tons of roll out, regardless of what you were hitting. I preferred Pine Needles to Mid-Pines, but both are absolute must plays. I didn't stick around to join the guys in the bar afterwards, but apparently it is incredible and worth sticking around for. Oh well. Next time. We'll be back.

Terrific course and layout, with greens that made me want to scream. I could never figure them out. I was either racing them by 10", or leaving them 10' short. Definitely slow down and enjoy the walk/ride up to the 18th green. The Inn and back patio looking out over the 18th is incredible and feels like something you'd see on tour. I want to go back and actually stay in one of the Inn's, as opposed to staying elsewhere. Incredibly friendly bar room staff and pro shop. Definitely worth the price of admission, with the history attached to it.

It was a little confusing getting where we needed to be on the course. Smaller driving range and incredibly small club house. The first hole is the most scenic on the course, in my opinion. It looks beautiful from the tee box. But other than that, there just wasn't much memorable about this course to me. Which is why I said, don't go in expecting Bandon Trails or Cabot, two other Coore/Crenshaw designs, and you'll be fine. It's probably worth the price of admission, but there's also probably better options in the area in this price range.
