Avery Ranch Golf Club
Played On 03/10/2021Timeless classic golf course......but?
This is a terrific classic track and I always enjoy playing it. One simple change would make it even better. Not every golfer that plays Avery carries a range finder. For those that don't have to play Easter egg hunting to find yardage markers on the fairway.....not fun! Simple cheap solution.....place zebra stakes at 150 yards. It's a great aiming visual from the tee, and anyone can extrapolate their distance to the green from that stake. Think about it decision makers!

One of the very top public courses anywhere in Austin. Only reason not 5 star was terrible tee box condition......fairways and greens for the most part in good shape.....why not the tee boxes?

Played this course dozens of times and have never been disappointed. For late February it was in very good condition and the greens were receptive and rolled well. Some easy birdie holes and some real tough ones which any good layout should have. In the words of the terminator, " I'll be back".
Hidden Creek Golf Club
Played On 05/06/2016Fun Course to Play
Hidden Creek is a " Hidden Gem". Course was in very good shape and the greens putted quite well. This is a very
traditional course, with some easy holes and some challenging. All in all, I highly recommend this course!
Mike K., the head pro is a true professional and good guy!
I have two suggestions to improve the overall value of this course. 1. The day I played I saw no marshals monitoring
the pace of play. Waiting on every shot behind a group that has several holes clear in front of them is no fun. 2. They
need yardage stakes on every hole.....white for 150 yds. and red for 100 yds. You can spend a lot of time looking for
the ones situated throughout the fairway, but having stakes would provide an easy reference, and improve the pace
of play.
However, this would not prevent me from going back. It's a good course and fun to play.
Mansfield National Golf Club
Played On 11/06/2014Better than average representing excellent value.
Good track with many fairly easy holes and a few challenging ones. Greens in great shape.....much better than other courses.....even private ones. Fairways not lush, but decent. Two things they could do better; 1. They don't call you name prior to tee time so if you're a single or twosome you have no idea who you're joining with until you're on the first tee.....utter confusion! 2. Don't bother hitting balls before playing.....85% of your bucket will be terrible balls.....you can hit it flush and it takes off like a knuckle ball.....total waste of money!
Hawk's Creek Golf Club
Played On 05/15/2014Decent golf course representing fair value for your money.
Very traditional golf course in pretty good shape. Beautiful old trees line most of the fairways. Greens in good shape. You'll have to wait a few months if you want to putt or hit balls before your round as they are building new facilities. Like most public courses, especially during the week, there was no Marshall to be seen anywhere to monitor pace of play. We played behind a " fivesome" who thought they owned the course......ridiculous.
The Golf Club At Fossil Creek
Played On 10/08/2013Remains one of the best courses in DFW!
This is still one of the best courses in the area. From the back tees an advanced player will be challenged. Course is in good shape and the greens rolled nicely. I played late morning on a week day and got behind 3 groups of 5 and payed the price by playing in 5 hrs!.....not fun! Stuff happens!
Arnie built a nice layout, and this course has been around a long time, yet it still offers a good value for all types of players. The staff is very cordial, and check out Arnie's Pub for a cold one afterward.
Tierra Verde Golf Club
Played On 9/10/2013One of the better metroplex courses
Haved played this course many many times since it opened in 1998. Has always been a good test. Irrigation system broke down a few weeks ago and the course didn't get any water for many days. As an result, it is much browner than it should be, but stuff happens as they say.
All in all, still one of the better courses in DFW. For what they charge, especially on weekends, it represents a fair value....not a
great one.
The Raven Golf Club at Three Peaks
Played On 8/9/2013SPECTACULAR!
Incredible test of golf. Several tee boxes to choose from depending on your skill level. Lush fairways, lush greens.
Not much else to say. Top ten course in Colorado and top
50 in the country!
Lake Arlington Golf Course
Played On 6/10/2013For a city course....not bad.
This is pretty much a typical city muni. They have limited land to work with, so I give them a break on that. Overall, not a great test if you're a high caliber player. However, from the back tees, all the par 3's are excellent tests. Not real creative holes, but again, not much to work with. Playing in mid July with excessive heat, I was surprised that the fairways and greens were in good condition.
If you're a really good player, this is a good course to simply work on your game. For what you get vs. what you pay, I'd say this course represents fair value.
Whitestone Golf Course
Played On 5/6/2013Decent golf course, but could use some water.
This is a good golf course....not great. Greens in pretty good
shape. Fairways for this time of year should have been softer.
Does not bode well for what they will be this summer. A pretty
good challenge. If you're trying to get home in two on the all
but one of the par 5's, you will have a blind shot. Price was very
reasonable, so all in all a good value. At a higher price I would
go elsewhere.
River Place Country Club
Played On 03/30/2013A quality golf course!
Plan and simple.....this is one of the best courses in Austin, in
Texas and the entire southwest. Reminds me of Apple Roock and
Ram Rock in Horse Shoe Bay. Fun to play with majestic views.
This is a second shot golf course with a premium on distance
control. Super nice people are anxious to attend to your every
need. Tom Kite did a superb job!
Riverside Golf Club
Played On 3/19/2013Better than average
Haven't played here in awhile. Course was in decent shape for this time of year. Greens were good considering the heavy foot traffic. This course has always been a good test for your game.
Does not play as long as the back tees indicate, but the key to scoring on this course is your approach shot. No. 16 is one of the best par 3's anywhere, and #18 into a usual headwind is as tough a par 4 you would ever want. Only negative is the practice area, where basically you're hitting off sand, and it's not very creative. But all in all, a good value for the money.
Iron Horse Golf Course
Played On 3/13/2013Excellent value
This is a good shot maker's course. To score well here
you must shape your shot. Greens are receptive to shots,
yet will penalize you if you miss badly. Bring your short
game. Greens were excellent....rolled well. There are some
holes that scream "birdie", and there are some where you
feel great making par.......which is the sign of a good course.
